Four thousand individuals in Bauang, La Union, who were affected by the inclement weather in the past few weeks have received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation through its Operation Bayanihan project.
According to "24 Oras" Friday, among the beneficiaries of the project are husband and wife Paulo and Erlinda Hipol, whose house was devastated by the strong winds and rains.
"Itong bagyo lang ho ang talagang naranasan ko talaga, siya ang nagpabagsak ng bahay ko," said Paulo.
Paulo's life was also put at risk when a part of their collapsed house pinned him down.
The couple has patched up wood scraps and iron sheets for temporary shelter, but food remains scarce. They have not yet returned to work selling fish because the fishermen have been unable to go out to sea.
"Ang panawagan ko lang sa kanila, kung meron silang maitutulong sa akin, maski ano, tanggapin ko, maipatayo ko lang ang bahay ko," said Paulo.
GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed relief goods and bread to the 4,000 individuals in Bauang, La Union. The residents were also given hygiene kits that were donated by a sponsor.
"Marami po 'yung nasirang bahay, 'yung mga hanapbahay ng tao, hindi sila makapaghanapbuhay dahil malakas pa din ang alon. We are very grateful po sa GMA Kapuso Foundation," said Arlie Alonzo of MSWDO - Bauang, La Union
For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Thursday, the number of reported fatalities due to the impact of Tropical Cyclones Crising, Dante, Emong, and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) is now at 37.

Rains, cloudy skies possible over parts of Luzon due to LPA

Most parts of Luzon will experience cloudy skies, rains, and thunderstorms because of the low pressure area, PAGASA said in its Wednesday afternoon forecast. At 3 p.m., the LPA was spotted 245 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 370 km east of Daet, Camarines Norte. It has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, along with the LPA located 2,865 km east of Northern Luzon as of 2 p.m. However, the LPA in the east of Catanduanes is expected to affect the weather conditions in Cagayan Valley, CALABARZON, Aurora, and Marinduque, according to PAGASA's 4 p.m. daily weather forecast. The LPA will also bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Visayas, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Central Luzon, the Bicol Region, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and Romblon. Meanwhile, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and CARAGA will see the same weather conditions due to the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat). Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will be observed over Palawan and the rest of Mindanao also due to the Habagat. PAGASA warned the public of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains or severe thunderstorms. Winds will be light to moderate, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate throughout the country. Sunrise in Metro Manila will be at 5:41 a.m. on Thursday. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/VBL, GMA Integrated News
