The Tennessee Titans mortgaged a bit of their future when they traded for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L'Jarius Sneed last offseason. Not only did the Titans give up a third-round pick in the process, but they gave him $44 million guaranteed on a four-year deal worth up to $76.4 million.

Unfortunately, Sneed played just five games for Tennessee last season after suffering an injury. He had zero interceptions or pass deflections in those five contests despite recording 10 interceptions and 40 passes defended in four years with the Chiefs.
Head coach Brian Callahan has grown increasingly frustrated with Sneed as he is yet to return to the Titans' offseason program after being placed on the injured reserve last November.

On Thursday, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox released a list of the 10 worst contracts heading into the 2025 NFL season. Sneed's deal came in at No. 9.
"It was odd to see Tennessee immediately give a 27-year-old corner who had never been to a Pro Bowl a deal worth $19.1 million annually—which has him as the league's 11th-highest-paid cornerback a year later," Knox wrote. "If Sneed is unable to bounce back this season, Tennessee can cut him in 2026 and save $11.9 million in cap space, though it would have to eat $20.1 million in dead money to do so."

Callahan spoke about this matter on Tuesday when he addressed the media after the Titans' mandatory minicamp practice. He expressed his current view on Sneed and how he still has plenty to prove to the coaching staff in Tennessee.
"There's a track record of success as well from what he has been as a player. But he's also gotta prove that here too," Callahan said. "He hasn't done that yet for us. ... We're waiting for him to show us the player that he's been. He hasn't reached that level of play for us, so we're waiting for that opportunity to occur."
Sneed was a pivotal part of two Super Bowl runs for Kansas City, but if he cannot get back on track with the Titans, this will be another failed roster move made by former general manager Ran Carthon that new general manager Mike Borgonzi has to clean up.

Landon Dickerson to have MRI Monday

The Eagles are waiting for a significant medical update on Monday. Left guard Landon Dickerson was helped off the field and carted inside after injuring his right leg during Sunday's practice. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Dickerson is set to have an MRI that will provide more information about the severity of the injury. Dickerson has been a starter since joining the team as a 2021 second-round pick and he's part of an experienced offensive line that was a major asset for the team's offense on the way to winning the Super Bowl last season. The Eagles listed Kenyon Green as Dickerson's backup on their initial depth chart, but Green was injured in their first preseason game. Matt Pryor and Trevor Keegan are also on hand as backup guards, but the Eagles will be hoping that they don't need to rely on them for too much time.

Pete Carroll defends Geno Smith after Raiders QB flips off fan in Seattle return

Pete Carroll has Geno Smith's back. The new Raiders coach, 73, defended his quarterback Sunday when asked about Smith's decision to flip off a Seahawks fan during Thursday's preseason game, which served as the duo's Seattle homecoming. 'Did you see what the sign said?' Carroll said in a media session, according to Yahoo Sports. Advertisement Upon running out of the tunnels at Lumen Field before the start of Las Vegas' preseason opener, Smith — who spent six seasons in Seattle before being traded to the Raiders in March, two months after Carroll signed on with the team — was greeted by one fan who held up a sign that read, 'Bigger bust — Geno or JaMarcus Russell.' 5 Pete Carroll is seen trying to grab a sign from a fan at Lumen Field. In 2022, his first year as the Seahawks' starting quarterback, Smith earned a Pro Bowl nod and was named Comeback Player of the Year. The Seahawks awarded Smith a three-year, $75 million contract in 2023, in what would be Carroll's final season with the team. He threw for 4,283 passing yards in 2024, surpassing his own single-season record from 2022 (4,282). The Raiders, who extended Smith in April on a two-year, $75 million contract, open the season on the road against the Patriots Sept. 7.

The veteran safety CJ Gardner-Johnson made headlines late last week as he went down in practice with a suspected ACL injury. According to reports, the Houston Texans went from having an energetic practice to going through the motions after they watched Gardner-Johnson carted off the field. Initial reports suggested that Gardner-Johnson's injury was likely season-ending. That would've been a major blow for the Texans, considering they just traded for Gardner-Johnson back in March. However, it was soon revealed that the veteran safety avoided a major setback. According to Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans, Gardner-Johnson is expected to be back on the field at some point this season. The NFL Insider Adam Schefter recently noted that even Week 1 isn't ruled out for the former Eagle. via @UnderDogNFL: HC Ryans on S CJ Gardner-Johnson's knee injury: "We're all thankful that the injury is not as extensive as first reported. That year, the Eagles made a run to the Super Bowl. Gardner-Johnson racked up 12 tackles throughout the postseason campaign, which ended with a Super Bowl loss. The Eagles couldn't come to an agreement with Gardner-Johnson in free agency, leading the safety to sign with the Detroit Lions for one year. Ahead of the 2024 NFL season, the veteran safety re-joined the Eagles in free agency. He appeared in 16 games, producing 59 tackles, 12 pass deflections, and six interceptions. For the first time in his career, Gardner-Johnson contributed to a Super Bowl win with the Eagles, who defeated the Kansas City Chiefs.
