Nagarjuna Says His Coolie Look Was Inspired By Heath Ledger's Joker: ‘Glad He Didn't Put...'

Nagarjuna reveals Coolie director Lokesh Kanagaraj took inspiration from Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight for his villain look.
Lokesh Kanagaraj's much-anticipated Coolie has finally arrived in cinemas, and with it comes a revelation about one of the film's most striking visual elements—Nagarjuna's villainous look. In a candid conversation with co-star Shruti Haasan, the veteran actor revealed that director Lokesh, a self-confessed fan of DC movies, took direct inspiration from Heath Ledger's iconic Joker in The Dark Knight when conceptualising his costume.
Talking about the colour scheme, Nagarjuna shared, 'I think Loki had Heath Ledger's Joker in his mind, and he wanted that madness. He probably saw the madness in the colour as well." He explained how the choice of purple and cream felt completely new to him. 'I never wore such colours before. Loki told the dress designers. They got two or three options. He saw and said, 'This is it. This is the one I want.' I also had a jacket. Purple jacket. It was really good. I never wore those colours."
Describing the outfit, he laughed, 'It is a very strange dress. I mean, even for me, it's baggy pants." Shruti agreed, adding, 'It's kind of a mix of Heath Ledger and old Joker, as we know from the character." Nagarjuna then quipped, 'I'm glad he didn't put on that smile."
For an actor known for playing protagonists with moral authority, taking on a darker role was a significant shift. Nagarjuna revealed that he took several narrations before agreeing to join Coolie. 'The story starts with Simon's character. For the first time, I've recorded the narration and made notes to decide on the character. I never did this earlier."
The transformation seemed to impress even the film's superstar lead. Recalling a moment from the shoot, Nagarjuna said, 'After the shot was over, Rajini sir nodded and said 'hmmm' (with a sweet smile)."
Now playing in theatres from August 14, Coolie stars Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, and Aamir Khan in a cameo. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film blends high-octane action with stylish visuals, and Nagarjuna's Joker-inspired antagonist is shaping up to be one of its most talked-about highlights.

Will fully cooperate for release of The Devil: Actor Darshan

Agency: PTI Bengaluru, Aug 16 (PTI) Kannada actor Darshan on Saturday said he would 'fully cooperate" for the release of his film 'The Devil'. He also expressed confidence that his 'celebrities" — as he calls his fans — will also stand by his decision. The message was conveyed through his wife Vijayalakshmi's Instagram account. Directed by Prakash Veer, the first song of the film was supposed to have been released on August 15. But with the Supreme Court cancelling his bail, Darshan was taken into custody a day before, on August 14. Following which, the plans for the film were reportedly put on hold. However, Darshan said his first duty is to support the directors who believed in him and the producers who have invested crores of money in him. 'So, I hope that all the work of my film 'The Devil' will proceed without any hindrance. I hereby inform you that you (makers of the film) have my full cooperation. And I firmly believe that my celebrities (fans) will consent to this," Darshan is quoted as saying in his wife's Instagram post. Darshan had wrapped up the film in July. The reshooting of the film started in February after the actor was released on regular bail. 'Cinema is an entertainment medium and should be viewed only from the perspective of entertainment," the actor said further through his wife's post. Darshan was arrested on June 11, 2024, in connection with Renukaswamy murder case. Darshan was granted interim bail on medical grounds after he claimed back pain. He was then granted regular bail by the Karnataka High Court in mid-December. PTI JR ROH view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma Charms Audience With ‘Pehla Nasha' On Piano

Last Updated: Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma wowed Raj Bhavan guests, including the Governor, by playing Pehla Nasha on a 150-year-old piano. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma drew applause and smiles at Raj Bhavan after delivering a soulful rendition of the Bollywood classic Pehla Nasha on a 150-year-old piano. The audience, which included Governor C H Vijayashankar, was visibly impressed, with the Governor seen praising the CM's piano skills. The video of the song, from the 1992 film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, has since been shared widely on social media, earning Conrad Sangma praise for his musical talent.
