QSCCB observes Int'l Youth Day with session on visual impairment

The Qatar Social and Cultural Center for Blind (QSCCB) has organised an interactive awareness session to empower youth and raise their awareness about the issues faced by persons with disabilities.
This initiative targets members of QSCCB and the Kaaban Youth Center, and it is part of the celebration of the International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12.
The session was presented by QSCCB member Ahmed Al Kubaisi, who provided an overview of visual impairment, its types and major causes, while also correcting common misconceptions about the condition.
Al Kubaisi emphasised that losing vision does not always mean complete blindness, and that visual impairment does not prevent a person from learning or working. He also showcased key assistive technologies that support people with visual disabilities, such as screen readers, smartphone apps, Braille tools, smart glasses, and modern tech devices, which participants had the opportunity to try.
The session also covered appropriate ways to interact with people with visual impairments, including introducing oneself clearly, using specific descriptions, avoiding unnecessary loud speech, informing the person of obstacles or surroundings, allowing them to hold the guide's arm, and notifying them when leaving, while highlighting behaviours to avoid.
The event reaffirmed the importance of promoting social awareness and the role of youth in supporting the inclusion of visually impaired individuals in all areas of life.

Awqaf Ministry launches ‘Parent Follow-up Day' initiative at Quranic education centres
QNA Doha The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Department of the Holy Qur'an and its Sciences within the Department of Da'wah and Religious Guidance, has launched an outstanding initiative about Parent Follow-up Day to bolster integration between the family and Quranic education centres and support the role of parents in the educational process of their children. An Awqaf statement on Sunday highlighted that the move is devoted to specifying Sunday of every month as the time for the attendance of parents to check on their sons inside the Quranic centres across the country. Head of Awqaf's Department of the Holy Qur'an and its Sciences, Fahad Ahmed Al Mohammed, stated that the initiative comes in implementation of the directives of HE Minister of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem to reinforce constructive cooperation between homes and centres, thereby contributing to achieving the intended pedagogical objectives. He emphasized the attendance of parents to these centres represents a catalysing support for students, as periodic attendance would likewise advance the educational process and achieve effective engagement among all parties. Conducted on Aug. 3, 2025, the first visit featured the participation of 1,262 parents in 149 Quranic centres nationwide and included individual sessions with teachers, as well as field trips and establishing communication groups via WhatsApp to follow up on the progress of memorizing and revising the Holy Qur'an. Accordingly, several parents appreciated this initiative, emphasizing that it fosters students' commitment to attending the memorization sessions and helps build balanced characters. Participant students, for their part, confirmed that the attendance of their parents largely stimulates them and enhances their commitment to these memorization classes, with heads of the centres praising this step as it generates a positive impact on students and educational staff. As such, Awqaf continues to double down on its efforts to back the Quranic education centres for both genders throughout the nation by putting out educational plans and supervising the teachers' performance. This is in addition to holding Quranic activities with the aim of graduating an erudite generation that memorizes the Holy Qur'an and adheres to the Islamic precepts, thereby contributing to building a community that underpins Islamic values, faith, and identity.

Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zaid Center organises multilingual religious lectures for Muslim communities
QNA Doha The Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center, of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf), organised a series of religious lectures for non-Arabic-speaking Muslim communities. These lectures are part of the centre's ongoing programs to promote religious awareness and Islamic values among various communities in the country, and the events witnessed wide participation and notable engagement. In this context, a lecture in English was held at Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al-Thani Mosque in The Pearl area, attended by more than 80 members of the community. The preacher addressed the topic of having good thoughts about Allah, emphasising that this virtue is one of the greatest doors to hope, as it motivates Muslims to perform righteous deeds in pursuit of Allah's mercy, without falling into complacency or arrogance, but rather combining hope with action and reliance on Allah's forgiveness. At the centre's lecture hall, two additional lectures were held. The first was for the Ethiopian community in Amharic, delivered by preacher Waheeb Kurto on love of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He stressed that loving the Prophet (PBUH) is both a legal and heartfelt obligation, manifested in following his Sunnah and emulating his character. He noted that the Prophet (PBUH) sacrificed dearly to guide humanity, and our love for him is shown through our behaviour, speech, and actions. The third lecture was directed at the Urdu-speaking community, on relationship with Allah as the foundation of happiness, attended by around 150 community members. It was delivered by preacher Abdul Ghafoor Al Omari, who discussed the importance of sincere worship, remembrance of Allah, and drawing closer to Him as a path to inner peace and spiritual stability. He pointed out that true happiness can only be attained through a strong connection with the Creator, and that fulfilling the purpose of existence is the key to tranquillity. Organisers at the centre affirmed that these gatherings will continue as part of a religious outreach plan that includes various mosques and centres, aiming to reach the widest possible segment of communities and connect them with authentic Islamic values and the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah, using simplified methods that respect cultural and linguistic diversity. The organisation of the lectures reflects the centre's commitment to serving Muslim communities in their native languages and providing accessible religious and educational platforms that meet their spiritual and cultural needs. It also demonstrates the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs' dedication to spreading Islamic values and enhancing communication with all segments of society.
