Puteri Umno steadfast backbone of Umno's struggle

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed his appreciation to all Puteri Umno members in conjunction with the 24th anniversary of the Umno wing.
The deputy prime minister said the wing has remained a steadfast backbone of the party's struggle for more than two decades.
In a Facebook post, Ahmad Zahid said Puteri Umno is a dynamic wing representing the voice of young women that is bold in taking the lead, strategic in organising efforts and unwavering in defending Umno under any circumstances.
"From the realm of social media to the grassroots in villages and cities, Puteri is always present, contributing energy and igniting the spirit of the (party's) struggle," he said.
He said this anniversary comes at a very significant time, ahead of the Sabah State Election, which he described as both a testing ground and an opportunity to prove the maturity and capability of Puteri Umno as the voice of the future.
"I believe, with strong solidarity and unyielding spirit, Puteri Umno will continue to chart success, not only within the party, but also in nation-building and driving the country forward.
"Happy 24th Anniversary to Puteri Umno.

You cannot turn the clock back

COMMENT | These questions often cross my mind: Why is a convicted felon who stole a fortune from our nation's coffers still regarded as a wronged hero? Why are 160 Umno division chiefs fighting for him to serve the rest of his sentence in the comfort of his home? Haven't they heard of equality before the law? Perhaps they have been blinded by the greed of an imagined Golden Age. What Golden Age? We will not find any answers in our history books, but parallels and politics can prove useful.

GRS-PH-BN pact for polls unlikely, says Gagasan Rakyat VP

Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah vice-president Masiung Banah said an alliance that includes BN could confuse voters, when GRS and PH have already agreed to join forces for the state election. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : A three-way pact among Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional for the upcoming Sabah state election is unlikely to materialise, says a GRS leader. Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah vice-president Masiung Banah played down Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's hopes of a pact among the three major coalitions to prevent seat clashes, saying his party would surely disagree with this move. Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah is one of the eight component parties in GRS. Masiung said such an alliance could confuse voters, when GRS and PH have already agreed to join forces for the state election, Sinar Harian reported. 'There's little chance of such a cooperation to be reached. But if it does materialise, we hold to the prime minister's statement on May 11 that (GRS chairman) Hajiji Noor should lead negotiations on seat allocation,' he said. The four-term Kuamut assemblyman said GRS and Sabah PH have already formed a solid working partnership, which his party intended to fully stick to. 'GRS has also lost confidence in BN-Umno because they betrayed the partnership they had forged with GRS through the 'Kinabalu Move'. 'At the same time, BN-Umno has also decided not to work with GRS. We hope the prime minister will respect our stand,' he said. Yesterday, Anwar said talks were ongoing among BN, GRS and PH to reach an understanding to avoid three-cornered contests in the state election. The PH chairman and PKR president previously hoped that all three coalitions would be able to work together for the polls. Hajiji, the Sabah chief minister, announced on July 27 that GRS and PH had agreed to form an alliance for the election. BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also said the coalition's cooperation with PH in Sabah was 'locked in'. However, as both BN and GRS are not formally working with one another, the two coalitions are expected to clash in the state election, due to be held by the end of the year. Sabah Umno and GRS used to be allies in the state government, but their partnership collapsed after Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin tried but failed to unseat Hajiji as chief minister in January 2023, in a move dubbed the 'Kinabalu Move'.

Young voters to decide GE16 outcome, Umno needs new strategy

He said there's an urgent need for more strategic and relevant approaches to engage this demographic. Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani - Photo by Bernama Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani (centre) officiating the Pasir Gudang Umno Division Conference at Dewan Muafakat Taman Mawar on Saturday. PASIR GUDANG – Young voters are expected to play a key role in determining the outcome of the 16th General Election (GE16), as they make up about 40 per cent of the total electorate in the country. Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the figure highlighted the urgent need for more strategic and relevant approaches to engage this demographic. 'We need to engage with this group in the right way. They're not like before. Many are highly educated, some have PhD, master's degree, or bachelor's degree and their way of assessing candidates is very different. 'Young people in Kuala Lumpur are not the same as those in Kedah or Johor Bahru. We can't use a one-size-fits-all approach. Their thinking is dynamic and critical,' he said. He was speaking at a press conference after officiating the Pasir Gudang Umno Division Conference at Dewan Muafakat Taman Mawar on Saturday. Also present was Umno vice-president and Pasir Gudang Umno Division Chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. Johari said Umno recognised the challenges in gaining the support of young voters and will work with non-governmental organisations to broaden its reach and adopt approaches that were more community-focused. 'We can't just rely on old machinery or traditional programmes. Young people are more connected to the digital world and have access to more information, so we must be creative and sincere in engaging with them,' he said. In his speech, Johari also stressed that Umno was not a platform for chasing positions or wealth, but rather a movement of struggle that has played a major role since before independence. 'Many Umno fighters back then didn't even hold positions after independence, but their spirit of struggle lived on and gave rise to many great thinkers,' he said. Commenting further, he reminded that Barisan Nasional (BN) must not be overconfident going into the next general election. 'BN cannot be complacent or assume we will win easily. The political landscape today is very different and the people especially young voters judged based on performance and integrity,' said the Plantation and Commodities Minister. More Like This
