'Severance,' 'Penguin,' 'White Lotus' lead Emmy nominations
July 15 (UPI) -- Severance, The Penguin, The White Lotus and other hit TV series earned multiple Emmy Award nominations Tuesday morning.
Actors Brenda Song and Harvey Guillen announced the nominees during a live-stream on the Emmys website and social media pages.
Severance leads the nominees with 27 nominations, including Best Drama. The Penguin follows with 24 nominations, while The White Lotus and The Studio are up for 23 awards each.
Other shows with multiple nominations include The Last of Us, The Pitt, Paradise, Slow Horses, Abbott Elementary and The Bear.
Winners are to be announced at a gala Sept. 14 at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Comedian Nate Bargatze will host the show, which is set to air on CBS and stream on Paramount+.

5 great Pedro Pascal movies to stream
Few actors have had a run quite like the one that Pedro Pascal is on right now. The actor, who rose to fame on Game of Thrones and has since become a dominant presence in both film and television, is starring in three movies this summer, including Fantastic Four: First Steps, Materialists, and Eddington. He's also coming off of the second season of The Last of Us, which means you've had just an insane number of opportunities to watch him on screen. If you're hungry for more, though, we've got you covered with five older movies from Pascal that are all available to stream now: Gladiator II (2024) Although Pascal is not the lead of Gladiator II, he plays a central role in the film as a Roman general who is secretly working to take down the corrupt emperors that he publicly serves. Recommended Videos He's a perfect counterpoint to Paul Mescal's more selfish Lucius, who spends most of the movie convinced that he's after personal vengeance. The Wild Robot (2023) If there's a running theme on this list, Pascal is always more than willing to play second fiddle. Here, he's doing it in a vocal performance, playing the closest animal companion of the titular robot, a conniving fox who ultimately partners with her to raise a runty goose. The Wild Robot is Lupita Nyong'o's show, but Pascal is both funny and moving as a fox who keeps having to convince himself that he doesn't actually care about anything besides himself. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022) There's a little too much going on in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, but every scene that Pascal and Nicolas Cage share together is golden. The film follows Cage as he's recruited to infiltrate the compound of one of his biggest fans, who also happens to be the head of a criminal empire. Pascal plays the head of that empire and spends most of the movie telling Cage how much he loves his movies. It's a hilarious, utterly winning performance that has to be charming enough to convince Cage that this guy might not be so bad after all. You can watch The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent on Amazon Prime Video. Triple Frontier (2019) One of the great dudes-rock movies of the past decade, Triple Frontier tells the story of a group of former special operations operatives who reunite to plan a master heist after finding that their home lives are at a dead end. As they undertake the mission, things don't go according to plan, leading to predictably terrible results. Pascal is just one member of a crew that also includes Oscar Isaac and Ben Affleck, but he stands out as an actor with an incredible amount of natural presence. You can watch Triple Frontier on Netflix. If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) Pascal only has a single scene in Barry Jenkins' If Beale Street Could Talk, but it's one of the best scenes in an incredible movie. The movie focuses on a Black woman who is dealing with the aftermath of her partner's arrest even while preparing for the arrival of their first child. Pascal shares his scene with Regina King, who plays the main character's mother. As she goes to him to plead for help for her son-in-law, they share an intimate, heartbreaking exchange that reveals the depths to which Pascal can go, even with limited screen time. Jake Larson, who became known as "Papa Jake," died "peacefully and was cracking jokes til the very end," her granddaughter, Mikaela Larson, said in a TikTok post Saturday. "I am so thankful to have shared my Papa Jake with you all," Makaela Larson said in her post. "When the time is right, I will continue to share Papa Jake's stories and keep his memory alive. We appreciate all the kind words and posts. As Papa would say, love you all the mostest." Jake Larson was born in Owatonna, Minn. on Dec. 20, 1922 and joined the National Guard when he was age 15 by claiming that he was 18. He was assigned to the U.S. Army's 135th Infantry Regiment in the 34th Infantry Division, known as the "Red Bull." He was deployed to Ireland during WWII, and then shipped to June 6, 1944, one of 34,000 Allied soldiers who stormed Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, which was occupied by Germany. "Papa Jake" gained a worldwide following on social media with the help of his family, and later created a TikTok page with the "@storytimewithpapajake" handle, where his appeal grew to more than 1.2 million followers, and where his posts have garnered more than 11 million likes. He also has more than 16,000 YouTube subscribers. Many of his social media posts recounted his encounters on Omaha Beach, where he escaped enemy machine gun fire in addition to other recollections of fighting advancing German soldiers. "It seemed like the landing was an eternity, with all the firing going on....I can't describe it. And people would say 'Were you scared?' I was scared of stepping on a landmine, and that's what I was trying to prevent," he said in a video posted by the U.S. Army last month. "I was 5 foot 7 at that time. I weighed 120 pounds and I said, "Thank God the Germans aren't good at shooting toothpicks." At least 2,400 hundred Americans died during the Normandy invasion. "There's going to be casualties but we're willing to risk that," he said in the video. "We had to get this done. We have to relieve the world of this guy called Hitler." 'Media Buzz' host Howard Kurtz said that CBS axed Stephen Colbert simply to gain Trump's approval.
Fox News host Howard Kurtz isn't buying that CBS axed Stephen Colbert solely for financial reasons. Kurtz called out CBS' parent company Paramount on Media Buzz Sunday, accusing it of cancelling The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in order to gain President Donald Trump's approval. 'This is about Shari Redstone, who needs Trump administration approval to have this sale to Skydance go through and make a lot of money, in my view, really tarnishing the network of Murrow and Cronkite,' Kurtz told guest Brian Steinberg, who is a senior TV editor at Variety.
