Mumbai, Jul 11 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said the inclusion of 'Maratha Military Landscapes' representing the fortification system of Maratha rulers in the UNESCO World Heritage List was a 'proud and glorious moment' for the state.
'Maharashtra Govt offers Salutations to our beloved Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj!! Heartiest congratulations to all the citizens and ShivBhakts of Maharashtra,' Fadnavis said in a post on X.
'I am extremely happy to share that 12 forts of our greatest King, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List,' he said.
Shivaji Maharaj built these forts for 'Swarajya' (sovereign state), Fadnavis added.
Many people contributed to the efforts to include them in the UNESCO list, the chief minister said.
'First of all, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji. The support he gave and the active participation of the Central Government were of great value. The Archaeological Survey of India and the Ministry of Culture helped a lot in this. I personally contacted various ambassadors. My colleagues, DCM Eknath Shinde ji, DCM Ajitdada Pawar also supported me from time to time. Minister Ashish Shelar personally went and met the Director General of UNESCO. He made a technical presentation there,' Fadnavis said.

Uttarakhand sets record with over 8.13 lakh saplings planted on Harela festival

He emphasised that planting trees is only the beginning. 'We must nurture the saplings like our own children to ensure they grow into lush green trees,' Dhami said. He added that 50 per cent of the saplings planted in each forest division this year will be fruit-bearing trees. Highlighting environmental challenges like climate change, uncontrolled development, and resource exploitation, Dhami said a collective effort is required to restore ecological balance. He also informed that the Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority (SARA) has helped conserve over 6,500 water sources and collect 3.12 million cubic metres of rainwater in the state. The state has also imposed a complete ban on single-use plastic and made dustbins mandatory in vehicles, he said. The chief minister called upon people to plant saplings on special occasions in their lives and nurture them, turning environmental protection into a mass movement. State Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal, who was also present at the event, said the survival rate of saplings planted during Harela over the past three years has been over 80 per cent. Joshi said the institution had taken a loan, but the director of the school has forced teachers and other staff members to repay it through EMIs. There is no arrangement for food and water in the school, and staff members were abused and even threatened with a gun by the director if they raised any complaints, the MLC alleged. Joshi said the Nagpur Zilla Parishad (ZP) did an evaluation of the school in February in which it gave 80 out of 100 points to the school. After he raised the issue, another evaluation was done by the Zilla Parishad which gave 23 of 100 points in just three months of the first report. The lawmaker said he repeatedly raised this issue with the Commissioner for People with Disabilities, but barring once, he did not get any response. The MLC said he made frequent calls to the bureaucrat since the start of the monsoon session of the state legislature on June 30, but to no avail. Joshi demanded action against the Commissioner for People with Disabilities for not looking into the issue despite repeated directions, against the CEO of Nagpur Zilla Parishad for two varying reports about the institute in less than three months and also the director of the institute who threatened the staff. Replying to the calling attention motion, Save said, 'It is a serious issue. An administrator has been appointed for the institute. Joshi, however, demanded action against the Commissioner for People with Disabilities and Zilla Parishad CEO. Save said he has no powers to suspend the Commissioner as he is an IAS officer and that the department needs to recommend the same to the government. The minister said official can be sent on compulsory leave. However, the Joshi insisted that the official be suspended for his insensitive behaviour while dealing with a sensitive issue. Other members of the house, including Pravin Darekar (BJP), also joined him in seeking action. Council Chairman Shinde asked Save to send the official on compulsory leave, serve him a show cause issue and suspend the official. 'Instructions of the chair will be followed,' the minister said.
