Elderly man in Kedah held for dragging dog behind motorcycle
Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said the man was picked up at his home in Bandar Puteri Jaya at 8 pm yesterday.
'Police seized a red Honda EX5 motorcycle, a set of keys with a road tax, and a white helmet.
'The man was brought to the Kuala Muda Police headquarters for further investigation. Checks revealed he has no prior criminal record,' he said in a statement today.
He said the elderly man was found to be suffering from dementia and memory loss, but admitted to dragging his pet dog, although he could not recall why he did so.
'Further investigations are ongoing under Section 428 of the Penal Code, and the dog will be handed over to the Veterinary Department once medical treatment is completed,' he said.
In the incident, which occurred around 4.30 pm on Sunday, the man was seen dragging his pet dog, which was tied to the back of his motorcycle, along the road, causing injuries to the animal before he was stopped by members of the public who witnessed the act.

MELAKA: Melaka police busted a love scam syndicate with the arrest of three Nigerian men and an Indonesian woman during pre-dawn raids at three apartment units in Taman Klebang Jaya here yesterday. He said social media analysis experts found that the syndicate targeted victims both locally and abroad, deceiving them with sweet words and false promises, urging them to transfer money to e-wallet accounts provided by the syndicate. Dzulkhairi said the suspects were remanded for 14 days until Aug 25, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963. He advised the public to exercise caution and be wary of sweet words or false promises from unfamiliar individuals, and suspicious phone numbers or bank account numbers can be verified on the website with complaints can be lodged via the National Scam Response Centre hotline at 997 to block any financial transactions if they have fallen victim to cyber fraud. – Bernama

Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan convicted Jali Sagai on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison or a fine or whipping, or any combination of the two, upon conviction. The accused committed the offence against the 34-year-old victim in a house in Taman Orchidwoods, Jalan Matang here at around 7am on Aug 9, 2025. Based on the facts of the case, Jali had asked his daughter for money and became angry when told she did not have the amount he requested. Dissatisfied, he took a machete and attempted to stab his daughter but was shielded by her boyfriend. A brawl ensued between Jali and the boyfriend, resulting in the victim sustaining a head injury which saw him taken by ambulance to Sarawak General Hospital. A police report was lodged by the daughter and Jali was arrested the same day. An investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from Jali harbouring longstanding resentment towards his daughter for failing to meet his requests whenever he asked for money to buy food. In addition, Jali accused his daughter of refusing to give him food or cook for him, and claimed he did not receive proper care from her.
