Gladiators star recalls 'special' moments with newborn son before heartbreaking death
Gladiators star Zack George has bravely opened up about the "special" moments he shared with his newborn son before he sadly passed away.
Baby Leo was born prematurely earlier this year and spent 13 courageous days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Leicester Hospital before tragically passing away.
During those 13 days, the George family witnessed firsthand the extraordinary care and compassion of the NICU staff.
In response, Zack and his wife Samantha have founded Leo & Friends, a baby loss awareness charity aimed at providing vital support to other families enduring similar heartache, while also recognising and equipping the NICU teams who work tirelessly to care for premature and critically ill babies.
Appearing on Saturday's (August 16) episode of BBC Breakfast, the couple spoke to hosts Charlie Stayt and Luxmy Gopal about the "really special" moments they shared with Leo before he passed away.
Zack explained: "I didn't actually hold him for the first days.
"A really special moment is that when he was in the incubator and his oxygen levels dipped or his blood pressure dipped, if we were sitting next to him and we touched him and was speaking with him, we would instantly see his stats improve.
"I think that was a really special moment, he knew who his mum and dad were and he knew you were there."
Zack later revealed that he's taking on the 13 Days Fighting' Burpee Challenge in memory of little Leo which will consist of completing a mile of burpees every day for 13 consecutive days, from August 18 until 30 this year, across an array of different locations across the UK.
The challenge is proudly supported by Currys, who will be joining Zack on his journey to raise awareness and funds for the Leicester Hospital NICU.
In addition to their support, Currys will be donating up to £5,000 worth of tech equipment for family and staff rooms within the unit, helping create a more comfortable and supportive environment for both parents and healthcare workers.
The funds raised through the 13-day challenge will go towards equipment, support services, and improvements to the NICU at Leicester Hospital - the hospital that gave Leo his 13 precious days and cared for him around the clock.

On the way though, we can pick up a fair few goodies on the road. When you pass a pink house (just after heading uphill and on the winding path back and forth). Park up next to the gates and by the two benches, you'll find Newspaper: Easter Celebrations. Onthe other side of the bridge, on the first road to the left, you'll find a Trinacria. Just beyond this, a little further on the main path, you'll find three men talking. On one of the barrels, you'll be able to grab Newspaper: Grand Duke Killed. Directly across the road, you'll find a graveyard tucked away just near the train tracks. If you park up right next to the gates and race inside (a timer will tick down for 15 seconds but you should get it in time), you can get Saints Card: San Giuda Taddeo. Finally we'll make it to Pasquale's. You'll also find Newspaper: Workers Strike on a table just in the corner Now, go and chat with Pasquale. Follow Leo / Speak with Leo's contact We'll now find ourselves in San Celeste at night. Follow Leo along the street and when you regain control, sneak past four bodyguards to reach him. Sneak past the Marquis' guards Back to top ↑ Once you regain control, take the stairs immediately to your left. At the top, sneak up behind the first guard and choke him out. Follow the upper walkway all the way around and near the end, Leo will appear behind a gate and distract the next guard for you. Move in and take him out as well. You can now head straight across the courtyard into the open door. Just ahead, there'll be a woman in blue. Look to the left of her near a bench surrounded by plants and you'll find a Mystery Fox. Continue up the stairs and you'll find a woman sitting at a desk. Just next to her is a Note: Alfredo's Love Letter. Exit through the balcony door, hop over the railing, and cross the rooftops to reach the next building. Get a better view Back to top ↑ Inside the room, you'll find a Trinacria on the left, Charm: Medicale on the right and a Note: Chasing Shadows. Continue into the next room and head to the open window. Enzo will pull out his camera automatically. Take a photo of the Marquis inside to earn Photograph: Marquis Siragusa. Bring the photo to Leo / Follow Leo Hop the railing just ahead and descend the ladder to rejoin Leo on the street below. Follow him a short distance until he's picked up in a car. We'll then jump forward to the next day. Race the train Back to top ↑ You'll now be behind the wheel of the newly repaired car. On the road to your right, a train will appear and race alongside you. If you manage to beat the train to the finish line, you'll unlock the Achievement: Full Steam Ahead. This is quite straightforeard and requires yoy to basically slamon the accelerator and not stop. You can ease up slightly on a few of the tighter corners but otherwise floor it and try to stay on the road, rather than veering into the grass. If you fail, you can restart the checkpoint and try again. Pick up Leo / Drive back to Pasquale's Back to top ↑ After your successful ride, Leo will hop into the car. Drive him back to Pasquale's Gas Station but just after picking him up, lets grab some more collectibles, shall we? On the road, look to your right where you'll see a farmstead. You'll be able to just faintly see a Mystery Fox between the buildings (pictured below). Continue on the road and just after the vineyard to the right and the purple flowers, you'll find a building with a red tarp outside. Park up, head up the stairs and you'll find another Mystery Fox here. Go over the plan with Leo Back to top ↑ When you arrive, make your way over to Leo and talk through the details of the race ahead. Win the race Back to top ↑ Now it's time to race. You'll be competing against five other cars in a sprint circuit that covers a large portion of the map. To progress the story, you'll need to finish in first place. There's also a time-based Achievement: Fastest Man in Sicily which requires you to complete the race in under 8 minutes. The race isn't too tricky but it's worth noting that there are shortcuts littered around the course that you'll get verbal cues about as you drive through. Win the race to trigger a series of cutscenes, prompting another time jump where you'll be at an afterparty. Speak with Leo / Speak with Isabella Back to top ↑ Once you regain control, you'll be at the celebration. You're free to wander and chat with guests like Luca and Pasquale, but to continue, you'll need to find Leo. He'll point you in the direction of Isabella. Head down the stairs by Luca and Valentina and walk along the waterfront. Near a crate on your left, you'll find Newspaper: Amazing Inventions if you haven't grabbed it from earlier in the game. Giuseppe is standing nearby for a quick conversation too, and at the end of the pier you'll find Isabella. Speak with her to continue. Walk with Isabella to the photo spot After your chat, walk with Isabella back to the party and interact with Cesare so she can take a picture. Doing so will unlock Photograph: The Winning Team. Once the photo is taken, the chapter will come to a close. In doing so, you'll also gain the Achievement: Everything's Golden.

Gladiators ' Zack George and his wife Samantha broke down as they recounted the devastating loss of their baby on BBC Breakfast on Saturday morning. The TV personality, who is also a father to daughter Ivy, two, welcomed his son Leo into the world on 26th March 2025 when he was just 23 weeks old. However 13 days later Zack announced the tragic news of his son's death, after Leo suffered complications including brain bleeds, collapsed lungs and a hole in his heart. And speaking in the candid interview, Zach opened up about a special moment he shared with his newborn and revealed the gruelling challenge he is taking on in his memory. Zack and Samantha took to the panel to open up to Ruth Langsford, 65, Coleen Nolan, 60, Myleene Klass, 47, and Katie Piper, 41, about their loss. Their bravery to talk about such a sensitive subject really hit home to Myleene, who has been very open about her miscarriages in the past and has been honoured for her services to women's health, miscarriage awareness and charity. Ruth said: 'Myleene, you're sitting there holding hands with Samantha, it is so devastating.' Myleene paused and gathered herself before saying: 'I am so so sorry. I think that you are so brave.' She continued: 'So brave. The fact that you can say the words four months later.' Ruth pointed out that the couple, who tied the knot last year, want to honor his memory to make something positive come out of the heartbreaking situation. The fitness fanatic will be taking part in a challenge where he will be doing a mile of burpees every day for 13 days. Zack explained: 'When Leo eventually passed away, the way I have to deal with grief, I have to have something positive come out of the situation. 'I couldn't, we just lost our baby boy, nothing else, nothing positive had come from this. 'I had to try and turn it into a positive somehow and get some good out of it. 'So straight away I just thought of a challenge. He was with us for 13 days, I know you mentioned Sam held Leo, one of my biggest regrets was that I was a bit too scared to hold him. 'He was so small and fragile. I never held him until the very last day. 'That evening, things weren't looking good. 'We came in. He kind of waited for us. 'That's the only time we got to hold him, when he passed away.' Samantha said: 'He did pass away when Zack was holding him.' 'It's a magical moment, but no parent should hold him until his heart stops beating,' Zack said holding back the tears. Zack continued later: 'We're hoping that the challenge will raise awareness. 'So I am going to be doing a burpe mile every day for 13 days straight.' Myleene asked where she could donate, to which he explained: 'We have Leo and Friends, which we set up, it's got a website, Leo and Friends Foundation. 'We've got our Instagrams as well, where the link is there. I just want to spread awareness for premature baby loss as much as possible. 'We've had so many people reach out to us and say thank you for talking about it, because they've gone through the same thing.'
