Tui flight lands on burst tyre at East Midlands airport causing delays and diversions

A Tui flight has landed on a burst tyre at East Midlands airport causing a series of delays and diversions as the aircraft was unable to be immediately moved. Flight BY7113 departed from Birmingham airport on Monday but was diverted mid-air after the punctured tyre was identified. The plane landed at the Leicestershire terminal. All passengers were evacuated, but the aircraft continued to block the runway. Flights at East Midlands were temporarily prevented from taking off as a consequence of the incident, with some being diverted to nearby Birmingham airport. A spokesperson for East Midlands airport told The Independent: 'We accepted a diverted TUI aircraft this afternoon that was due to land at Birmingham Airport, after it declared an emergency with a punctured tyre. 'It landed safely and several procedures were carried out to ensure the safety of all passengers on board before they were disembarked and taken to Birmingham Airport by coach. 'Our runway is now fully operational but the incident prevented other aircraft from taking off or landing on our runway for around two hours. This led to seven inbound flight diversions and five outbound delays. 'We apologise for any inconvenience caused and continue to advise passengers to contact their airline for the latest updates.' A statement published to social media by East Midlands airport at 2.28pm noted that it had accepted the diverted Tui aircraft from Birmingham Airport. 'Currently sat on a plane in your airport waiting to take off,' wrote one. 'This issue was identified before I boarded. Why have I been sat here for an hour?!' 'Any chance you could announce this in the airport?' wrote another. 'Bizarre I have to find this out hunting on Twitter when my flight is affected.' In a second social media post shared at 3.58pm, East Midlands said: 'Following an earlier aircraft incident, our runway is now fully operational. 'We advise checking with your airline for up-to-date information concerning your flight.' However, one social media user commented at 4.57pm: 'My gf [girlfriend] had landed at East Midlands and is just waiting on the tarmac waiting to be let in to arrivals. Apparently no security staff there. What's going on?'

Lythe Hill Hotel & Spa in Surrey placed on market for £8.25m

The Lythe Hill Hotel & Spa, located near Haslemere, Surrey, UK, is currently on the market with a freehold asking price of £8.25m ($11.2m). This Grade II-listed hotel features 60 refurbished, contemporary letting bedrooms and suites, with planning consent approved for an additional 36 bedrooms, presenting significant value-adding opportunities for prospective owners. In March 2025, the hotel entered administration. Joint administrators Glen Carter and Damian Webb of RSM UK Restructuring Advisory appointed specialist business property adviser Christie & Co to market the freehold as a trading going concern. Dating back to the 14th century, the property boasts a Tudor restaurant, bar and lounge, a pizzeria, and three flexible function suites with a capacity of up to 200 guests. The hotel also features extensive spa and leisure amenities, including a heated indoor swimming pool, a yoga studio, a gym, dedicated treatment rooms, and a relaxation lounge. Carter said: 'Since our appointment, we have taken proactive steps to stabilise operations at Lythe Hill Hotel & Spa, ensuring continuity of service and preserving the hotel's strong market presence. 'The business continues to trade successfully, supported by its established reputation in the wedding, leisure, and corporate sectors. The hotel is now well-positioned as an attractive opportunity for new owners to build on a solid foundation and unlock its full potential.' Set within 19.1 acres of landscaped grounds, the property features a lake and a private helicopter pad. There is potential, subject to planning, to develop Lythe Hill Farm, a three-bedroom bungalow situated on a 2.66-acre plot. The hotel benefits from its proximity to key transport routes, including the A3 and M27, with Gatwick Airport accessible within 45 minutes by car. Christie & Co regional director Ed Bellfield said: 'This is a unique opportunity to acquire a well-known trading hotel and spa business in the Surrey countryside, with the potential to increase future income via implementing the current planning permission for an additional 36 bedrooms and extension to the spa.' In June, Christie & Co was appointed to oversee the sale of Banchory Lodge Hotel, a hospitality venue located in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Football comes home: Jubilant fans greet Lionesses on return to England

The Lionesses have returned to the UK after triumphing at the Euros, as hundreds of jubilant fans waited to greet the team. The team landed back in the country on Monday afternoon after defending their Euros title in a penalty shootout win over Spain in Basel, Switzerland, on Sunday. Supporters, many of whom were dressed in England kits and holding flags, cheered as they waited outside Southend Airport in Essex to greet the Lionesses. Among them were twins Poppy and Daisy Macdonald, 11, from Benfleet, Essex, who were holding a sign asking for a photo with star striker Alessia Russo. Poppy said: 'We're so proud. They've won it two times in a row and they've worked so hard for it. 'They've had a lot of injuries and setbacks but they've done really well.' Daisy admitted she struggled to watch the penalty shootout, adding: 'I couldn't watch, I was very nervous, but very happy that they won.' In a post on X, the team shared a photo of the Euros trophy draped in an England flag on a seat on the plane. The team will be welcomed to a celebratory reception at Downing Street later on Monday, hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock. Team captain Leah Williamson was seen smiling and holding the Euros trophy as the team left their hotel in Zurich and began their journey home in the rain. Other team members, wearing their medals, smiled as they high-fived supporters waiting outside the building and signed autographs. Lauren Hemp was seen carrying a Beauty and the Beast castle made out of Lego on her journey home. Other players have discussed hobbies outside of football which they have used to help unwind during the tournament, with star striker Michelle Agyemang revealing she had brought a piano with her to Switzerland. Tuesday will see the team enjoy an open-top bus procession along The Mall and a ceremony in front of Buckingham Palace. However, the Lionesses began their celebrations in Switzerland and can be seen cheering, raising a glass and dancing with Reggie, the dog, in a video posted on the team's official social media accounts. The team can be seen wearing their gold medals, chanting the white Cavapoo's name and waving his paw after the match. Reggie belongs to Cheals on Wheels, a barista company that travelled with the team to the tournament. Posting on Instagram, the company wrote that Reggie had 'gone international' and was 'soaking up all the love (and sneaky treats) from the team' in Switzerland. After the game, the King said the team had the royal family's 'warmest appreciation and admiration' in a post on X, adding: 'The next task is to bring home the World Cup in 2027 if you possibly can'. A trip to Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle may be on the cards for the winning squad as it is understood possible plans for a reception in the autumn are being explored by royal aides. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer hailed the team's triumph, saying the Lionesses had 'once again captured the hearts of the nation' and were 'an inspiration for young people across the country'. Alessia Russo gave the Lionesses hope of retaining their Euros title with her second-half equaliser after Mariona Caldentey netted the opener for Spain in the 25th minute. The Lionesses went on to triumph 3-1 on penalties. A picture of the Prince of Wales with his arm around his daughter Princess Charlotte was posted to X, with the caption 'champions of Europe'. At the presentation ceremony, William congratulated Agyemang on being named young player of the tournament, appearing to say 'well played, fantastic, well done' at the presentation ceremony. Agyemang, 19, who had one England cap before the tournament, scored crucial equalisers in the Lionesses' quarter-final and semi-final comebacks. A trip to Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle may be on the cards for the winning squad as it is understood possible On Monday, a mural at Russo's first grassroots club, Bearsted FC, was unveiled to mark the victory and celebrate National Lottery funding for the game. The red, white and blue image depicts the player alongside a St George's cross and a roaring lioness at the club in Maidstone, Kent. To celebrate the win, the Royal Mail will mark the occasion with a congratulatory postmark – which will be applied to stamped mail across the UK from Monday to Friday. Fans can attend the homecoming celebrations in London for free and it will be broadcast live on BBC, ITV, and Sky.
