United States Marine Corps Kicks Off 250th Birthday Celebration at Super Bowl LIX

New Orleans will be the First in a Series of Year-Long Events to Honor USMC's Service to the Nation
NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The United States Marine Corps kicks off a year-long celebration of its 250th birthday at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans this week. The festivities include a one-of-a-kind multi-media booth at the NFL's Super Bowl Fan Experience, participation in media interviews on Radio Row to commemorate the NFL's Military Appreciation Day, a flyover during the inaugural Super Bowl Mardi Gras parade, and a historic flyover during the Super Bowl Pre-Game Show, the world's most-watched live event.
Authorized by an act of the Second Continental Congress, Captain Samuel Nicholas set up the first Marine Corps recruiting headquarters at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, PA. on November 10, 1775. This year, the Marine Corps will celebrate 250 years since its founding.
'For two and a half centuries, Marines have forged a path of honor and courage, and stood resolute in the face of adversity,' said SgtMaj Carlos Ruiz, the Marine Corps' top enlisted Marine. 'We all carry the weight of our incredible history and must ensure the ideals of our freedom endure for the next 250 years.'
Today, the Marine Corps is stronger than ever. On any given day, nearly 38,000 Marines are forward deployed around the globe, enabling the Corps to be first on scene, first to help, first to contain a brewing crisis and, if required to do so, first to fight anywhere for as long as it takes. Marines stand always ready!
To commemorate 250 years of Marines serving with distinction in every clime and place, the Marine Corps will hold events across the nation. These events are an opportunity to honor the legacy and tradition of service, celebrate Veterans, connect with fellow Americans, and inspire the next generation of leaders to wear the cloth of the nation.
The Marine Corps' 250th birthday celebration will include five Marine Weeks and two other large-scale events, beginning with Super Bowl LIX this week and culminating in November with the celebration of the Marine Corps' birthday worldwide.

Former Steelers WR provides health update after season-ending injury, eyes NFL comeback

Former Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool provided his first health update after his season-ending injury last season — and he's gearing up for an NFL comeback. On Friday, Claypool took to Instagram and discussed the severity of his injury — as well as set the record straight on what's next in his football career: "I tore a ligament and a tendon in my second toe and have been rehabbing, working out, and recovering every day for the past year," Claypool wrote. "I am back to being the strongest and fastest I've ever been and couldn't be more excited to step back out on the field and let my actions speak for themselves. I deeply and truly believe that the pieces will align, and I will work my way into the position to show off what's been suppressed these last two years." Claypool also thanked the Bills organization in his Instagram post, singling out teammates, coaches, and other staff who supported him during his time in Buffalo. The Steelers drafted Claypool with the 49th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, where he showed true promise for two and a half seasons — accumulating 2,211 yards from scrimmage, as well as 14 total touchdowns. Pittsburgh traded him to the Bears in 2022 for a second-round pick — which, thanks to Chicago's last-place finish, turned into pick No. 32 overall and allowed the Steelers to acquire CB Joey Porter Jr. With Claypool readying for a return to the NFL, and the Steelers in need of additional wide receivers on offense, could a 2025 Steel City reunion under Aaron Rodgers be on the horizon? Former Eagles Super Bowl champ Bryan Braman battling rare, aggressive cancer: 'In the fight of his life'

Super Bowl champion and former NFL linebacker Bryan Braman is "in the fight of his life" after being diagnosed with a "very rare" form of cancer. Braman, who helped the Eagles defeat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII to bring the Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia, was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, according to a GoFundMe campaign set up on his behalf in February. The fundraiser did not mention what form of cancer Braman was diagnosed with, other than describing it as "very rare," but stated that he would need to undergo an "extensive 12-week treatment program" in Washington. Braman's agent, Sean Stellato, told KPRC 2 that the 38-year-old former NFL player "is in the fight of his life," but was hopeful that he would beat the cancer. "At Stellato Sports, Bryan Braman has always stood for strength, resilience and leadership," Stellato said. "He is a pillar and a staple of the underdog. Now, in the face of cancer, he embodies those qualities more than ever. If there is one person that I know that can beat cancer, it is Bryan Braman, who I have always considered family. "He's in the fight of his life. Please support Bryan and keep him in your prayers." The latest update on the fundraiser from last month stated that Braman had undergone "CAR-T cell reprogramming treatment." While initially showing signs of being effective, the organizer of the fundraiser said that "the cancer has grown exponentially faster, and is now growing around his vital organs." Braman spent the majority of his seven-year NFL career with the Eagles. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans in 2011, where he played for three seasons. He signed with the Eagles in 2014 and rejoined the team again right before the playoffs in 2017. He would go on to register one tackle in their Super Bowl victory. The fundraiser for Braman raised over $70,000 by Saturday. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Kaytron Allen poised for big 2025 season after strong postseason showing in 2024

Running back Kaytron Allen has been one of the most consistent weapons in Penn State's arsenal over the last three seasons, averaging over 1,000 all-purpose yards per year. After foregoing the 2025 NFL draft to return for his senior season, Allen and Nick Singleton form one of the best running back duos in the country. With another year of development under new running backs coach Stan Drayton, Allen may be able to increase his production before heading to the pros. Here's a look at Allen heading into the 2025 season with the Nittany Lions. 2024 in review Though his 2023 campaign fell short of expectations, Allen bounced back last year with over 1,100 rushing yards on 5.0 yards per carry, adding eight rushing touchdowns. He battled injuries throughout the middle of the season and was less than 100% for several games, but Allen peaked during Penn State's postseason run with 124 yards against Oregon in the Big Ten championship, 70 yards on just 11 carries against SMU in the first round of the College Football Playoff, 134 yards against Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl and 82 yards against Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. Biggest question in 2025 The biggest question entering 2025 is whether Allen can stay healthy for a full season. His physical play style and penchant for violence cause wear and tear that leaves him at less than 100%. If Penn State can keep him healthy and reduce his workload in blowouts, Allen is likely to perform better against top competition. 2025 will be a success if… This season will be a success if Allen can generate more explosive plays. His longest run in 2024 was just 32 yards, and his yards per carry dropped slightly from his first two seasons. For Allen to truly take the next step in his development, more chunk plays could lead to a career-high in rushing yards in 2025. 2025 will be a disappointment if… If Penn State's wide receivers aren't able to demonstrate a credible vertical threat, Allen may struggle against loaded boxes. If the Nittany Lions' passing game is unable to take the attention of Allen, it'll be hard for him to find much success as he relies on running through defenders rather than around them. Realistic outlook for 2025 Based on Allen's steady output over the past three seasons, another 1,000-yard campaign seems likely, particularly if Penn State enjoys a deep postseason run. Without Tyler Warren competing for red-zone targets, Allen could see his touchdown total reach double digits. Sustaining his postseason form into the regular season would solidify his status as one of the nation's elite running backs. Follow Kevin McGuire on Threads, Bluesky, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
