P-4 Concept: Select Margadarsis on war-footing, officials told
Addressing the review meeting of all departments officials here on Monday, the Collector has said that following the directions of the government, as many as 50,000 Margadarsis should be picked in Nellore district against the total figure of 15 lakh in the entire State by August 15.
The Collector said that the selection of Margadarsis should be taken up in a campaign mode.
Otherwise, it will not be possible to complete such mammoth task.
Each Margadarsi is expected to at least adopt one Bangaru Kutumbam.
The Collector directed that the engineering department should initiate steps of selecting not less than 500, while DRDA, Panchayat Raj, RWS, Medical & Health, R&B, APSPDCL and Education department more than 2,000 in the interest of completing the targets in a time-bound manner.
The Collector suggested to the officials to seek the cooperation of local social activists and voluntary organisations if it's necessary. The Collector ordered them to begin the process in coming four days.

258 community sanitary complexes sanctioned
Eluru: District collector K Vetriselvi reviewed the progress of construction of community sanitary complexes in tourist centres and government hostels in the district with the officials concerned at the Collectorate here on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, she said that 258 community sanitary complexes have been sanctioned in tourist centres and government hostels in the district and that the construction should be expedited and brought into use by students and tourists. She said that the tender process should be completed where it has not yet started and the work should be started immediately. She said that Rs 3 lakh has been sanctioned for each community sanitary complex and the work should meet quality standards. If there is negligence or laxity in the quality of work, such officials will be identified and held responsible. The previous community sanitary complexes should be inspected at the field level, doors, electricity and water connections should be checked, and any minor repairs should be completed. She advised the officials to give first priority to toilets in Anganwadi centres, keeping children in mind. District RWS SE G Trinatha Babu, District Social Welfare Department DD Vishwamohan Reddy, District Backward Classes Welfare Department Officer RV Nagarani, Social Welfare Residential Institution District Coordinator Umadevi, District Tourism Manager S Pattabhiramanna, engineering officials, and others participated in this programme.

People asked to join as partners in P-4 programme
Nellore: District Collector O Anand has called upon the people to join as partners in P-4 programme with an objective to eradicate poverty in the district. The Collector has inaugurated a one-day workshop on.P-4 concept at Tikkana Pranganam on the premises of the Collectorate here on Thursday. Stating that P-4 was a voluntary concept, he said that it would provide an opportunity to the local philanthropists and financially well-settled sections in the society to voluntarily join the programme and ensure its success. He said that in view of propagating the programme, the administration has set up a call center with the number 1800-425-1999 for clarification of doubts over P-4. The Collector urged the officials who participated in the workshop to utilise the opportunity as it is meant to motivate the people towards skill development and various business opportunities. He said that it will be mandatory to receive feedback from the local public representatives and MLAs in the selection of Bangaru Kutumbalu. Voluntary organisations should be involved to ensure success of the P-4 programme. Atmakur RDO Pavani, Planning department in-charge officer Lakshmi Narasimhulu and others were present.

Rain revives fish farming in irrigation tank near Tiruvannamalai
Fish farming in an irrigation tank, which is maintained by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), at Melathikkan village near Tiruvannamalai town has been revived for the season due to rain in recent weeks, resulting in steady rise of waterflow to the tank. Accompanied by Collector K. Tharpagaraj, Minister for Public Works and Highways E.V. Velu released young fish in the tank on Wednesday as part of fish cultivation by farmers in the region. Officials of the Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation (TNFDC), which maintains fish farms in the district, said that fish cultivation, including harvesting, is done during May to August due to the steady reduction of hot weather and gradual rise in water level due to south-west monsoon. These months also help to retain adequate oxygen in the farming area of the tank due to slow evaporation. Also, as the water level is almost steady, fishing in the waters in the tank remains safe for fishermen. 'Local fishermen from the neighbouring Edapalayam village have been doing the job for many years. Such roping of local skilled workers helps to prevent poaching and also provides jobs for them,' S. Velan, Assistant Director (AD), Department of Fisheries (Tiruvannamalai), told The Hindu. At Melathikkan tank, Catla, Roya and Mithila are the preferred freshwater fish varieties that are cultivated with acumen, involving local fishermen and officials of the fisheries department. These fish varieties were chosen at least for two reasons - speedy growth and good taste, especially for spicy fish curries. They weighed over one kg in three months after they were left in the tank. As per norms, each hectare of tank area, on average, should release around 2,000 fish should be released to maintain the fish growth in the tank. In other words, 60% of the total area of the tank should be the total number of fish released. Divided into forenoon and afternoon, fishing in the tank will be done by 18 units of local fishermen, closely monitored by the officials. Each unit has at least two fishermen in a coracle with a target of 20kg per team everyday. In other words, fishing in the tank should yield at least 0.5 tonnes (500 kgs) daily especially during the peak month of August. These fishermen are paid on a daily basis. Of the total catch, one-third goes for local consumption with the rest goes to the government-run stalls and buyers in the State.
