'I have proof': Former Rajasthan CM Gehlot alleges BJP leaders including Amit Shah conspired to topple his government
JAIPUR: Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for observing "Samvidhan Hatya Diwas" across the country to mark the anniversary of the Emergency, alleging that the saffron party had illegally toppled governments in Congress-ruled states.
Speaking to the media in Jodhpur, Gehlot alleged that senior BJP leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah had conspired to topple his government and had engaged in horse-trading by distributing huge sums of money to MLAs.
'Amit Shah, Dharmendra Pradhan and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in the Narendra Modi government conspired to topple the Rajasthan government, but failed. Ours was the only government in the country that they could not overthrow,' Gehlot said.
He further stated, 'They changed governments in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra, but could not do so in Rajasthan. These people tried to break our party and distributed money to MLAs. I have proof of this. The situation they created — is this in line with the Constitution? Today, these people are celebrating Constitution Day.'

ACB files FIR against Bharadwaj and Jain in hospital ‘scam'
The Delhi Government's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on Thursday registered an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party leaders and former Health Ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Satyendra Jain in connection with alleged corruption in the implementation of health infrastructure projects during the tenure of the AAP government, an official said. The leaders, along with unknown government officials and private contractors, were booked under section 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, along with Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonesty), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. AAP hits back In response, AAP questioned why the FIR had not been made public yet. 'Is the FIR so baseless that the BJP fears it will become a national joke if released publicly?' the party said in a statement, adding that the case is a 'blatant misuse of agencies' to defame its leaders. The FIR has been filed in connection with an August 2024 complaint made by BJP leader and then Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta, highlighting 'grave irregularities and suspected corruption in health infrastructure projects including systematic manipulation of project budgets, misuse of public funds and collusion with private contractors'. According to a senior ACB official, the complainant alleged that during 2018-19, 24 hospital projects worth ₹5,590 crores were sanctioned. However, these projects remained largely incomplete, with substantial and unexplained cost escalations. Similarly, the ₹1,125 crore ICU Hospital Project, covering 7 pre-engineered facilities with a total of 6,800 beds, remains only 50% complete after nearly three years and expenditure of ₹800 crores, despite an initial six-month completion timeline, the official added. 'Approvals not taken' 'Verification of the complaint revealed unauthorised additional construction at government hospitals in Jwalapuri and Madipur carried out without approval from competent authorities. Notably, the Madipur hospital project was to be completed by November 2022, but remains abandoned and far from completion. Further, it was revealed that the 7 ICU hospitals have witnessed cost escalations exceeding 100%, with construction still incomplete well beyond the deadline of February 2022,' said the official. Further, he added that verification also found that the New Block at LNJP Hospital saw project costs escalate from ₹488 crores to ₹1,135 crores over four years, with the structure still incomplete beyond its January 2023 deadline. During the investigation, the officials also found that the Polyclinic Project also indicated misuse of funds where only 52 out of 94 planned clinics were constructed, while the cost rose from ₹168 crores to ₹220 crores. Many of these polyclinics remain non-functional. 'Despite a public announcement in 2016–17, the Health Information Management System (HIMS), a crucial tool for ensuring financial transparency in the health department, remained unimplemented and a free, cost-effective solution from NIC (e-Hospital) was deliberately rejected without justification,' he added. 'Tender rules violated' The ACB also found serious violations of rules, tender conditions, and financial protocols during scrutiny, revealing deliberate delays, inflated project costs, rejection of viable alternatives, and the creation of idle assets - collectively leading to massive losses to the public exchequer.

HSGMC Akali leaders, RSS observe 50th anniv of Emergency as ‘Black Day'
Kurukshetra: Leaders of HSGMC, from the dissident group of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and RSS ideologues were seen sharing the same platform during an event at Kurukshetra University (KU) to mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency as a 'Black Day'. It was organised by HSGMC. Led by its chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda, the event honoured individuals who endured political persecution during the 1975 Emergency imposed by the then Indira Gandhi-led Congress govt. Among the attendees were former MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, who was among the youngest to be jailed during the Emergency, former Punjab cabinet minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, both from the dissident SAD group, Kanwarpal Singh Tohra, grandson of former SGPC president Gurcharan Singh Tohra, KU's former vice-chancellor (VC) DDS Sandhu, 48 Kos Pilgrimage Monitoring Committee chairman and RSS ideologue Madan Mohan Chhabra, advocate Mahinder Singh Tanwar, and others. Distinguished guests were honoured with a model of Sri Darbar Sahib, a portrait of Baba Banda Singh Bahadar, and shawls. Chandumajra recounted his personal experience during the Emergency, describing the repression by then PM Indira Gandhi 's govt. "In her desperate bid to cling to power, she imprisoned many prominent leaders, including top Akali and RSS members. I was one of the youngest prisoners at the time," he said, sharing the harsh conditions political prisoners faced. Madan Mohan Chhabra said, "Congress is the only party which has made a joke of the Constitution the most in the country, whether it comes to amendment or imposing Emergency on the people. The Emergency period was a terror on the people by the Indira Gandhi govt, which was strongly resented by the people of Punjab, especially the RSS, Jan Sangh, and Akali leaders." Other speakers, including Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Dr DDS Sandhu, and Kanwarpal Singh Tohra, reflected on the suppression of democratic voices during the 21-month-long Emergency and emphasised the need to preserve democratic values. Thanking the attendees, Jhinda emphasised that the objective of commemorating the Emergency as a 'Black Day' was to honour those who suffered and to remind the nation of the oppressive chapter in Indian history. Call to rename IGI Airport after 9th Sikh guru HSGMC's Dharam Prachar chairman Baljit Singh Daduwal proposed renaming Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport after Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru. "Indira Gandhi has no significant contribution to the nation," he said. His suggestion was met with chants of "Bole So Nihal… Sat Sri Akal" by the congregation. Daduwal also announced that HSGMC would send an official letter to PM Narendra Modi in this regard.

Secular, socialist not in Ambedkar's draft, time to rethink: RSS
New Delhi: RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said on Thursday that a rethink on the need to have the words " secularism " and " socialism " in the Preamble to the Constitution must be undertaken as these words were added during the Emergency period and were not part of the original draft laid down by BR Ambedkar. "During the Emergency, two words were added to the Indian Constitution's Preamble -- secularism and socialism. These were not in the Preamble drafted by Babasaheb Ambedkar. These words were added when Parliament was not functioning and the judiciary was made helpless," he said. "Later (post-Emergency), no attempts were made to remove these two words," Hosabale said. "Now, it needs to be considered whether these two words should remain in the Constitution," he added.
