Dangerous cold and heavy snow on the way
We start the new week with winter weather alerts as we anticipate our next winter storm. They will begin to go into effect this evening and will continue into early Wednesday morning.
The bullseye where the heaviest snow totals are expected will be east of Wichita. Outside of the bullseye there will be a large swath of snow totaling 2″ to 4″. There will not be as much snow in extreme Southwest Kansas.
Before heavy snow arrives tonight there will be a small chance that areas north of I-70 get skimmed by some light snow during the day. There will also be a lot more cloud cover today too.
There will be a large spread in high temperatures. They will range from the teens to the low 50s, the coldest air will be to the north.
Snow chances gradually rise through the evening.
Overnight lows will be bitterly cold in the single digits and below zero. We will need to pack on the layers Tuesday morning as a northeast breeze makes it feel even colder.
We will also need to pack our patience for the Tuesday morning commute. Snow will be widespread and heavy at times.
Snow lasts through the day and the warmest it will get is the teens and single digits.
Extreme cold alerts go into effect Tuesday evening. Wind chills through Thursday morning will be as low as -15 to -30.
Snow tapers west to east through Tuesday evening. There could still be a few trailing snow showers during the night and into early Wednesday morning.
It will take a while to get out of the freezer but temperatures will be able to get above freezing just in time for the weekend.

Water Safety Tips as Local Lake Levels Rise
Belton, TX (FOX 44)– Recent rain has greatly contributed to our local lake levels–with Lake Waco and Lake Whitney at 100 percent capacity and Lake Belton around 96% full. Alex Klaypac is a park ranger at Stillhouse Lake. He says to be mindful of obstructions hidden beneath the surface and shares some water safety tips. 'We just want everybody to be as safe as possible when they're on the water and in our parks,' he says. As you pack your car full of your lake necessities, don't forget one very important item–A life jacket, even for the strongest of swimmers. 'Wear a lifejacket when you're on the boat, when you're swimming, and even on the shoreline. Just be safe,' Klaypac says. Finally, make sure you stay hydrated. 'Please bring and drink a ton of water–like, more than you think you need,' says Klaypac. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Sunday brings another round of storms for St. Louis
ST. LOUIS – Guess what? Another round of storms are in the forecast this weekend for the St. Louis region. Saturday brought various periods of rain across St. Louis and even a tornado warning early Saturday in nearby Jefferson County. On Sunday, we could start with some foggy and cloudy conditions. Where you'll really need to pay attention is Sunday afternoon into the evening, though timing for the next round of storms remains to be determined. The next system will likely move out of the northwest toward St. louis early Sunday evening. This will be a line of storms along the leading edge of another cold front. With that, as it first initially gets going, there could be some threats for rain, thunderstorms, hail and damaging winds. Some isolated tornadoes could also be a possibility. The western half of our viewing area, much of Missouri west of St. Louis and Jefferson counties, is categorized in the Slight Risk (Level 2) for severe weather, while the eastern half, primarily including southern Illinois, is under a Marginal Risk (Level 1). After this round of storms, calmer and quieter weather takes shape through the first half of the workweek with temperatures in the 80s before the pattern becomes unsettled once again by next weekend. Few storms possible
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Another warm and humid night expected across the area. Temperatures will slowly fall to the low to mid 70s by sunrise Sunday morning. A line of thunderstorms will approach the Pee Dee right before midnight. We could see a few strong storms. Once the line reaches the Interstate 95 area, storms will weaken. A few clouds and maybe a surviving shower by Sunday morning. Sunday will feature another day of high heat and humidity. We will see partly cloudy skies. As the line of storms weakened, that will set up new boundaries that storms can form on Sunday afternoon. The sea breeze will help aid in the development as well. So watch for a few strong to severe storms possible Sunday afternoon. Highs will be in the low 90s, heat index values pushing 100. The rest of the week will continue to show daily thunderstorm threats, high heat and humidity. A very typical summer time pattern is setting up. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
