TGSRTC embraces digital future for enhanced convenience to public
On Monday, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar conducted an inspection of the Musheerabad depot alongside TGSRTC MD, VC Sajjanar. He took the time to personally review the execution of the Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) and digital payment systems as part of the AFCS initiative. The conductors demonstrated to him the simplicity and efficiency of this system at the operational level.
The Minister stressed that the TGSRTC is introducing innovative reforms that are unmatched anywhere else in India. He highlighted that the Mahalaxmi free travel initiative for women, proudly launched by the state government, is significantly benefiting the RTC financially. 'The RTC has issued 191 crore zero tickets to date, resulting in a remarkable saving of Rs 6,300 crore for women,' he stated.
Ponnam Prabhakar expressed his satisfaction regarding the implementation of the AFCS in RTC buses across Hyderabad. 'For the past three months, the RTC has been successfully implementing AFCS in its buses. On average, 20 per cent of passengers are utilising this service daily. The RTC plans to extend this system to all buses soon,' said Ponnam Prabhakar.
The Minister also announced plans to extend RTC services to new residential colonies within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to improve last-mile connectivity. New bus routes will be introduced to make public transport more accessible and commuter-friendly.

Over 56,000 women to benefit from Stree Shakti initiative in Annamayya district, say RTC officials
The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is fully geared to implement the State government's 'Stree Shakti'initiative in Annamayya district from August 15 (Friday) to mark the Independence Day celebrations. The initiative is in tune with a key election promise made by the coalition government to provide free travel to women in the State-run buses. At present, the RTC officials in Rayachoti estimate that over 1.41 lakh passengers travel daily via corporation buses in the district. Of this, women passengers account for more than 40 per cent. The pro-women initiative would directly benefit 56,400 women, the officials said. Expecting a huge surge in the women commuters, the officials have earmarked 480 buses out of the district's total fleet of 545, operating from Rayachoti, Rajampet, Pileru, Madanapalle-1, and Madanapalle-2 depots. The 480 buses include 363 Pallevelugu, 27 Ultra Pallevelugu, and 90 Express services. The officials clarified that the women passengers must hold an aadhaar card linked to Andhra Pradesh State to avail travel free-of-cost, and those without aadhaar cards will have to purchase regular tickets. Meanwhile, the RTC officials from Annamayya district, an area which is largely agrarian, believe that the initiative could result in a dip in their monthly income. Following the launch of the new initiative the monthly income could touch ₹45 lakh, and it might even cross the ₹60-lakh mark as more number of beneficiaries are expected to shift from private vehicles to the RTC, they added. Regional Manager C. Ramu said that adequate staffing and operational measures are perfectly in place to maintain punctuality in services and prevent any inconvenience to other passengers. 'All arrangements have been completed for the scheme's successful launch. A detailed operational report has been sent to the headquarters,' he said.

These devices will be launched in buses in Vijayawada, Guntur, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan, IT minister Nara Lokesh, home minister Vangalapudi Anita, and revenue minister Anagani Satya Prasad in different locations. The CEO explained that these devices, equipped with specially installed 360-degree cameras, will enable real-time monitoring of RTC bus movements. The devices will assist in surveillance, emergency services, safety, and data management required for bus operations. The CEO stated that by providing AI-based services in govt programmes related to women empowerment and public service, the company aims to play a key role in the state's innovations. He said that the company will offer services in the pharma, health, automotive, retail, and food sectors. The CEO also announced that the company will soon establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Vijayawada. He highlighted that BONbLOC is among the top ten blockchain companies known for innovative breakthroughs. He said that they are happy to expand BONbLOC, a rapidly growing company in the US, to Andhra Pradesh. He emphasised that their goal is to deliver high-quality software services to customers in less time and at lower costs. He assured that the company will provide help in projects related to artificial intelligence, blockchain, and IoT. He also noted that Andhra Pradesh, with opportunities for investments in IT and other sectors, has the potential to achieve economic growth of 2.4 trillion dollars. Amid bus fleet expansion, IT corridor commuters still face longer wait time
Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has expanded its fleet by deploying the highest number of new Metro Deluxe buses to key hubs, including Secunderabad (79), Patancheru (64), Koti (37), Uppal (33), and Mehdipatnam (27), covering both starting and terminating points. While these areas now benefit from improved connectivity, residents in IT corridors such as Gachibowli, Madhapur, and Kondapur, as well as other neighbourhoods including the Financial District and Himayatnagar, continue to face issues with infrequent bus services, long waiting times, and inadequate last-mile connectivity. Currently, TGSRTC operates a fleet of 3,151 buses across Hyderabad and Secunderabad, within GHMC limits and suburbs. These buses undertake 32,422 trips daily from 25 depots, covering 8.5 lakh kilometres and serving over 25 lakh passengers every day. When TOI visited several city bus stops reported for reduced frequency, many commuters were observed enduring long waits and overcrowded conditions. With the erratic rains now, it's getting more and more problematic." It is not only working professionals who are affected; students are feeling the strain as well. Anitha TK, a student from Himayatnagar, said: "Earlier, buses used to arrive every 10 to 15 minutes, which was manageable for me and my friends. But lately, the waiting times have increased significantly, and the buses are often packed to capacity by the time they reach our stop. I now have to wake up at 7am just to ensure I reach college on time, that's how unpredictable and overcrowded the buses have become. " TS Reddy, a retired official from the Central Road Research Institute and a transport planning expert, highlighted that despite the city's growing population, the number of buses has not kept pace. "A decade ago, the city operated close to 4,000 buses, but that number has declined significantly since. The govt must prioritise expanding the city's bus fleet, improving last-mile connectivity, and increasing service frequency. If we want people to shift from private vehicles to public transport, it is essential to strengthen and scale up these services to meet demand." A TGSRTC official told TOI: "As part of our efforts to expand the city's bus fleet, we have already introduced over 265 new buses, with another 10 expected to join the service in the coming days. We are actively assessing various routes to identify those experiencing high demand and low frequency, and we plan to deploy additional buses on these routes to improve service and reduce waiting times for commuters."
