Nicole Kidman taking time off from Hollywood

Perth Now23-05-2025

Nicole Kidman is taking some time off from work to focus on her family.
The Hollywood actress had a busy few years releasing movies including 'A Family Affair' and 'Babygirl' as well as filming the series series of 'Nine Perfect Strangers' and starring in Netflix drama 'The Perfect Couple' last year - and Nicole has now revealed she's the summer of 2025 off because she wants her kids to feel "completely loved, completely prioritized".
She told Allure magazine: "I'm taking the summer off."
Nicole - who lost her mother Janelle last year - went on to add: "Overgiving is bad for your health. You don't say to yourself: I matter. I grew up with a very strong connection to taking care of my mother and my family and being the oldest child.
"Put the oxygen mask on yourself first, right? Right. It sounds good in theory, but it doesn't make sense to me when you have kids. I will do anything in terms of sacrifice. I want them to feel completely loved, completely prioritized."
Nicole is mother to two adopted kids - Bella and Connor - with her ex Tom Cruise, and two daughters - Sunday and Faith - with her husband Keith Urban.
In the interview, she was asked: "Do you like who you are as a mother?" and the actress replied: "I do, actually. Yeah. I'm very close to both my girls.
"I sit on their beds and discuss the most intimate things; I get to be their guide. If they want to tell me to be quiet, they can.
"I'm able to apologize to them. I'm able to stand up to them. I very much like the relationship we have. It's nice to be able to say that."
Despite being very busy with her career in recent years, Nicole previously admitted only her family commitments have stopped her taking on even more projects.
She told Britain's HELLO! magazine: 'I would do so much more if I could. But I'm limited in my physicality, in terms of how I can only do so much, and then I obviously have kids and I have a relationship – but I'm still trying to use what I've been given."

A-list singer turned down Meghan's invite to appear on Netflix show: report

IN LONDON Meghan Markle extended an invitation to Dolly Parton to appear on her Netflix series but was turned down, according to a new report. The first season of the Duchess of Sussex's show, With Love, Meghan, was released in March and featured eight episodes, each with different guests. According to royal and entertainment commentator Kinsey Schofield, the country singer's team was 'livid' at the request. 'Because no, they don't want to risk Dolly's reputation Q score [and] her popularity by associating with Meghan Markle,' she alleged in a recent podcast episode of The Nerve with Maureen Callahan. 'They knew that this ask was just to give Meghan Markle credibility in this lifestyle space, a space that Dolly does have a lot of credibility in. 'Dolly is not only incredibly popular and loved by the general public, but she also is somebody who can float around within these different places. 'Her team really feels like Meghan was trying to take advantage of her popularity.' Those who did feature in the first season of With Love, Meghan, included the duchess' former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer and actress Mindy Kaling. It was confirmed earlier this year that the lifestyle and cooking show had been renewed for a second season – with rumours circulating recently that a third has also been greenlit from Netflix. Shortly after the release of season one, and amid persistent allegations of Meghan being 'difficult' to work with, a staffer spoke to People magazine about their experience, insisting she was 'warm', 'approachable' and 'genuine' throughout production. 'She made sure everyone felt included, from Netflix executives to our director to every PA on set. No one was left out,' he said. 'Most of the time, we're expected to fade into the background, to be invisible. But in this show, we were part of it. We were included. It was a very unique and refreshing experience.' Meghan was also open to learning throughout the process, according to the crew member. 'She didn't seem too married to any one idea. If something didn't go perfectly, she was fine with it and moved on to the next thing,' he said. The staffer added that she was 'a great hostess' and that there were occasional set visits from Prince Harry and the couple's two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. 'Whenever Harry visited set, he was always super polite and friendly. But it was clear he wanted this to be Meghan's moment to shine,' he said. 'She was super attentive and doting on [the kids]. We would give them headphones so they could listen to audio.'

John Mulaney reveals why he rejected Academy Award offer

John Mulaney turned down the Oscars due to the intense schedule. The 42-year-old comedian admitted while he was "flattered" to be asked to front the Academy Awards in March, with four-time host Jimmy Kimmel turning down the offer to lead a fifth ceremony. Appearing on Marc Maron's 'WTF' podcast, John said: "Well, I was very flattered. "They came to me, must have been last summer. And I knew Jimmy Kimmel wasn't gonna do it. And they offered it. 'And it was honestly that I had a lot going on. And it's months and months of work.' Instead, Conan O'Brien was chosen to host the prestigious event, and John was impressed by how the late night legend handled proceedings. He joked: "He came out and he not only was so funny, but he elevated the show to the point that I almost convinced myself I had seen these movies and I'd seen not a one of them." He added that his fellow 'Saturday Night Live' alumni "just locked in and owned the f****** thing". Conan recently joined John for an episode of his Netflix talk show 'Everybody's Live with John Mulaney'. The comedian confirmed "there was a plan to do more", with him and the steaming giant currently "figuring it out". Despite finding the whole thing "very enjoyable", he admitted he has "really felt the 12 weeks in a row" as the three-month run rolled on. He admitted: "We would scale back what we were doing if we were doing it everyday." John described his talk show as an "evergreen, weird" project which also straddles the line of "a variety show". He said: 'It was more than just that we got to try a lot of bits and jokes and have guests on 'We just got to try whole episodes where it felt very shoestring and episodes where we were blowing it out production-wise.'
