Chris McCausland hails how disabled people 'really are capable of so much more'

Strictly Come Dancing winner Chris McCausland hailed the Scope Awards as proving that the disabled community 'really are capable of so much more than others might think so.'
Chris, 47, a winner on the dancing show last year, scooped the gong for Celebrity Role Model at the awards last night.
The comedian said: 'It really is an honour to get to represent those of us with a disability on some of the biggest shows on the telly, and to get to show everybody else out there that we really are capable of so much more than others might think so.'
The blind comedian from Liverpool is currently on a UK tour and beat other celebrities, including campaigner Sophie Morgan and musician Jordan Stephens, to the award.
Chris lost his sight gradually due to a genetic condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa and said last night, 'there really are no limits to what we can do' and joked in his acceptance speech: 'Although I do have somebody else do the driving on this tour, because there have to be some.'

The awards at the Kia Oval were hosted by Hollywood actor Adam Pearson, and the winners were a group of attitude-changing individuals trying to create an equal future for disabled people.
Among them were Inkfire – the UK's first all disabled graphic design agency set up by husband and wife Imali and Cameron Chislett – won the inclusive workplace award.
Trailo – an app that aims to help disabled students with presentation anxiety won the accessible product of the year, and Reverse the Ban York – a group of campaigners who fought for years to lift the permanent ban on blue badge holders parking in York city centre- won the community group award.

The Purple Pioneer award – that honours an individual who has advanced disability equality in their local community – was taken home by Stephanie-Roxanne Blanco.
Stephanie is a trustee and vice-chair of FND Dimensions, and aims to develop a network of support groups for people diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorders.

She champions disability equality across her work and her research, and her TEDx talk about hidden disabilities has changed attitudes.
Shani Dhanda, head judge of this year's awards, said they are a 'true celebration of disability equality champions.'
She added: 'Each of the nominees is making a huge difference to improve disabled people's lives, remove barriers and transform attitudes.
Metro is also the official media partner of 2025 Scope Awards that took place tonight.
The ceremony celebrated the work disabled people and organisations are doing to bring about important change.
Hosted by the BAFTA-nominated actor Adam Pearson, unsung heroes, amazing achievements and the incredible accolades of the disabled community were all honoured at the Kia Oval.
There are 38 nominees for the nine Scope Awards: Accessible Product, Celebrity Role Model, Community Group, Inclusive Workplace, Journalist, Marketing Campaign, Media Moment, Purple Pioneer and Social Media Influencer.

Springwatch viewers were left in shock after the BBC Two programme showed gruesome scenes without giving any warning Springwatch viewers have been left fuming after the show failed to warn them before airing gruesome scenes on the BBC Two show. The episode saw hosts Chris Packham and Dancing on Ice star Michaela Strachan update fans on a short-eared owl's nest, but things took a turn for the worst when one chick was "pecked to death" by its sibling. Addressing Springwatch viewers, Michaela said: "It seems like they were all being fed, and just yesterday I was saying that one was doing well. But I'm afraid in that nest things took a turn for the worst." Michaela admitted the team was "really surprised" upon telling viewers how one chick ate its sibling in "shocking" scenes. However, viewers were left horrified when the show went straight into the clip without any warning. "As you can see, that little one became week and defenceless, and that stronger sibling took complete advantage and started pecking at the younger one who was still alive." Apologising that it was hard to watch Michaela continued: "It pecked it to death. That was really surprising to us, because as Chris said they were fed four times." Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one shocked fan wrote: "Really dont think they should have shown the owl being eaten alive #Springwatch." Another said: "Got to love #Springwatch. Just watched my first 5 minutes of this series and I've already seen one short eared owl chick peck a sibling to death and eat it's cadaver," as a third commented: "Baby owl eating its sibling alive ffs . Give us a 5 minute warning next time." It comes shortly after the show k icked off its 20th anniversary series. The show broadcasted from a new location, in the picturesque Peak District. Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan introduced the first episode on May 26 with a nostalgic montage of clips featuring familiar faces, including Kate Humble and Bill Oddie, from the show's debut in 2005. To celebrate two decades on air, the show introduced a new feature, Springwatch Street, which delves into the secret lives of urban wildlife, showcasing the thriving populations of foxes and swifts in city environments. Fans were overjoyed with the anniversary series, with many taking to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their delight. Others were more focused on Chris' Oasis style bucket hat. To go along with the theme, the host peppered his opening segment with Oasis puns, teasing viewers that they were in for a treat: "You'll want to be here now as we're about to bring you the Champagne supernova of wildlife TV, starting tonight." Netflix fans rush to binge Italian crime thriller with John Wick star
Netflix viewers are racing through all six episodes of the gritty new Italian thriller, Sara: Woman In The Shadows. The recently added show, directed by Carmine Elia, stars Teresa Saponangelo and Claudia Gerini, the latter of whom is known for playing Gianna D'Antonio in John Wick: Chapter 2. 'The suspicious death of her son pushes a former secret agent [the titular Sara played by Teresa] back into action, investigating a series of crimes that grow increasingly sinister,' the synopsis of the series, based on the crime novel series by Maurizio de Giovanni, reads. Sara's last job dubbed her 'the invisible woman' for her immaculate skill set and ability to lip-read and she brings her all to this latest mystery – to uncover what happened to her son. The description concludes: 'While discovering details of her son's life that she knew almost nothing about, Sara sinks into an investigation that brings her back to many ghosts of her past.
