Ireland's Alex Dunne powers to another Formula 2 win
Racing for Rodin Motorsport at Imola, the Offaly 19-year-old timed his move to perfection to win for the second time in just over a month.

Dunne secured a first-ever F2 victory for Ireland at the Bahrain Grand Prix in April.
The first Irish driver to compete on the circuit, he is top of the podium again today after a recent third-placed finish in Saudi Arabia.
Dunne started fifth on the grid and bided his time before surging into the lead on lap 27 and holding his position thereafter. Luke Browning (Hitech TGR) finished second, with Dino Beganovic (Hitech TGR) taking third.
The Clonbullogue native is now top of the F2 standings on 64 points after four rounds, with Browning next in line on 58. Monte Carlo stages the next race from 22-25 May.
Dunne — a McLaren development driver — competed in Formula 3 last year but made the step up to F2 for 2025, the level directly below Formula 1.

FTMTA: New tractor registrations up 43% in year to July
The number of new tractor registrations in July was up by 300 units when compared to the previous month (52), according to the Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA). The latest FTMTA Statistics Service Report for July 2025 shows the current level of vehicle registration activity in the farm machinery sector in Ireland. While the numbers of imported used tractors, registered for the first time in Ireland, increased compared with the same month of July 2024, the year-to-date market showed a 10% increase. The July 2025 new tractor market at 352 units was 43% higher compared with the same month in 2024. The year-to-date 2025 new tractor registration moving total figure is 10% higher at 1,678 units compared with 1,527 units for the first seven months of 2024. Co. Cork continued to deliver the highest number of new tractor registrations at 249 units for the year-to-date, while Co. Tipperary was ranked in second place with 164 units, followed by Co. Wexford at 98 units. The most popular power band for July 2025 was the 161-200hp category, which accounted for 23.30% of all new tractor registrations for the month. This is the most popular power band in the year to date and accounted for 25.21% of all new tractor registrations in 2025. The over-200hp category increased to 15.63% of all new tractors for the year-to-date. The monthly average tractor horsepower figure for July 2025 was 153hp, and the largest tractor registered was rated at 355hp. The year-to-date used tractor registration figure at 1,776 units was 73 units more than was registered for the first seven months of 2024. The Irish market for new telescopic loaders reported an 18.28% increase in July 2025 at 110 units, compared with July 2024. The latest FTMTA data shows new telescopic registrations for the year-to-date increased by 14% to 544 units compared with the same seven months of 2024 when 477 units were registered. The two leading brands, Manitou and JCB, accounted for 74% of the total market. There were 57 imported used telescopic loaders registered in July 2025, significantly up from 41 in July 2024. The Irish wheeled loader market recorded an increased number of new registrations in July 2025 at 26 units compared with July 2024 at 10 units, which was a market increase of 61%. There were just four imported used wheeled loaders registered in July 2025 compared with one in July 2024. The Irish backhoe loader market decreased in July 2025 compared with July 2024, with just seven new machines registered. There were eight used backhoe loaders registered in July 2025 in Ireland. For the period from January to July 2025 there were 36 new backhoe loaders registered in Ireland, compared with 44 in the first six months of 2024. There were 33 new UTVs registered in Ireland in July 2025, compared with 27 in July 2024. For the year-to-date, there were 164 new UTVs registered in Ireland compared with 230 for the first seven months of 2024, a 28% year-to-date decline. There were five used imported UTV registered for the first time in July 2025. For the first seven months of 2025 there were 20 used imports. The FTMTA statistics service reports are compiled from monthly raw data received from the Irish Revenue Commissioners who are responsible for all first-time registrations of new and used vehicles in Ireland.

Teenager Elding scores 10th of the season as Sligo knock out Bohs
Bohemians 0 Sligo Rovers 1 Paul Buttner reports from Dalymount Park SAM SARGEANT saved a penalty before Owen Elding scored another cracking goal at Dalymount Park to leave Bohemians looking back in anger at their FAI Cup exit. Sligo Rovers have enjoyed some big cup days and nights at the home of Irish football. The Bit O' Red lifted their first FAI Cup at Dalymount on a rain-sodden afternoon in 1983. Their more recent back-to-back wins in 2010 and 2011 came after narrow semi-final victories over Bohemians at the Phibsborough venue when current manager John Russell was a player. And they put their league struggles behind them to delight their 400-strong fans to book their spot in the quarter-final of this year's competition. Beaten finalists twice in the last four years, Bohs' quest for another Blue Riband will now stretch to 18 years. Sporting their all-light blue 'oasis' kit, given the weekend that's in it, Bohemians were put on the back foot early on as Sligo started with plenty of purpose. And as they struggled to get into the game, Bohs survived a right let off on 14 minutes. A mistake by skipper Keith Buckley gifted the ball to Jad Hakiki, who skipped into the clear in Bohs' half. But a poor touch allowed James Talbot to get to the ball first to avert the danger. Advertisement Having scarcely been in the game, Bohs then conjured the first real sight of goal a minute later. Dayle Rooney put opposite winger Connor Parsons away on the left. And though the Englishman cleverly cut past Conor Reynolds, his drive was saved by Sargeant at the keeper's right-hand post. Sebastian Quirk was likewise off target with a shot at the other end from Sligo's third corner of the night in an open contest. With the visitors back enjoying a spell of concerted pressure, Buckley had to clear Patrick McClean's header off the line from Ryan O'Kane's corner in the big chance of the half. Moments later, winger O'Kane saw his ball into the area whizz past the far post. The end-to-end action continued as half-time approached, Parsons firing wide of the Sligo goal after skilfully working the opening before Sargeant tipped away a dangerous cross-shot from Rooney. Twice coming close to taking the lead just before the interval, Bohs blew a real chance to do so three minutes into the second half after McClean tripped Devoy to concede a penalty. Sargeant chose the right way to bat away Rooney's spot kick. James-Taylor was then guilty of blazing over the top after Ross Tierney's put the rebound back into the area. Six minutes later, Sligo punished poor defending to take the lead with a fine goal. The tenacity of Fitzgerald nicked the ball off Buckley to feed it on to Elding. The 19-year-old, who scored on his last visit to Dalymount in June, needed little invitation to take on the shot first time with his left foot to drill it past Talbot to the bottom corner for his 10th goal of the season. With Bohs chasing the game now, Sargeant made his second telling save of the night to tip over a Rooney cross that had deflected goalwards off defender Ollie Denham. Try as they might, Bohs couldn't conjure an equaliser with Sargeant there again with another top stop to deny substitute Rhys Brennan on 90 minutes.
