Alexander Isak is on the verge of joining Liverpool after latest Newcastle update

Alexander Isak is now on the verge of joining Liverpool after the latest updates around Newcastle. It's pretty clear that the Swede has made his decision, and it's also pretty clear that the Magpies have accepted that decision. Everything points towards Isak joining Liverpool. It's just a matter of time. Not if it happens but when. For Michael Edwards this has been a pursuit long in the making. His group of scouts and recruitment team have identified Isak as a target for Liverpool all the way back when he was playing in Sweden as a teenager at AIK. They then wanted to sign him while at Real Sociedad but missed out on his signature. Now, at the third time of asking, Liverpool will do everything to make the deal happen. And they are now on the verge of completing the move. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range The biggest obstacle in the matter has always been Newcastle. They have been reluctant to accept the fact that Isak wants to leave and there is nothing they can do to stop him. But finally there seems to be an acceptance on their part, and progress in bringing in replacements for the Swede. This became clear in the latest flurry of updates on Friday. The first positive was that Newcastle are ready to finalise a deal for Yoanne Wissa as per Sky Sports' Keith Downie writing on X. Wissa is just one part of the puzzle though. Newcastle want a younger forward to replace Isak. Their pursuit obviously ended miserably missing out on Benjamin Sesko. However, they are now moving onto alternative targets. David Ornstein has reported in The Athletic that the Magpies are now working on a deal for Porto striker, Samu.

Community rallies round Morecambe FC staff

Local people are rallying around the staff at Morecambe Football Club, who have not been paid their full wages for the months of June and July. The Sultan Experience, a Lancaster restaurant, has donated hundreds of meals to staff and fans of the club. The Shrimps face the imminent prospect of shutting down due to a deepening financial crisis, with owner Jason Whittingham's failure to sell the club leading to suspension from the National League. The BBC has made repeated requests to interview Mr Whittingham, but has had no response. The Sultan Experience stepped in to help with free food. They provided 125 curries to club staff, and 35 pizzas with 30 portions of chips to a primary school whose event at the football club was cancelled. The restaurant also provided 40 free pizzas to fans queuing at the club's kit launch on Tuesday. Sal Sultans, 27, one of the owners of the restaurant, said his family had been supported by the community for more than 85 years, and "now it's my turn to give back". "We are Muslims and our faith teaches us the importance of charity, kindness and standing by others when they're going through difficult times," he added. Joanna Young from North Lancashire Citizen's Advice Bureau told BBC Radio Lancashire that the situation was "presenting a real challenge" for those employed by the club. "When a club like this is in limbo, there's no clarity on employment law, because there's no clarity on the situation," she said. Other football clubs have also shown their support for The Shrimps. Bury FC and Garstang FC are among the clubs who offered free entry for Morecambe fans over the weekend. Bury said they knew "all too well what it feels like", having been expelled by the Football League, and reformed as a phoenix club. "We at Bury Football Club have watched with great sympathy want you to know: you are not alone," they said. Morecambe were put up for sale by owners Bond Group in September 2022. A sports investment company, Panjab Warriors, were in line to buy the club, but a deal has not yet been signed. The Shrimps were suspended by the National League until 20 August over a failure to comply with the league's rules, meaning their opening three games of the season have been suspended. The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, urged the Bond group and Jason Whittingham to "do the right thing, to ensure the outcome that every Morecambe fan and every football fan wants". Sal Sultans' had this message for the owner: "Think about our community and think about our people." The BBC is yet to receive a response from Mr Whittingham. The next young starlet to be on the verge of a break through at Manchester City has seemingly been revealed

Ever since arriving at Manchester City from West Ham in September of 2023, Divine Mukasa has always appeared destined to one day become a first-team player at the club. The young attacking midfielder has all of the necessary attributes to grow into a City player. He is a precocious talent who seemingly has the world at his feet. After being named in Manchester City's travelling squad for today's friendly against Palermo, it is clear that Mukasa is likely to be the next young player to break through at Manchester City. Manchester City does have a pathway to first-team football from the EDS system. Three players have risen through the ranks of Manchester City's academy to become regular first-team players at the club. Phil Foden, Rico Lewis, and Oscar Bobb have taken that path. James Trafford is another who could be included on that list. Although, he spent two seasons at Burnley before returning to the Etihad this summer. James McAtee is another but he seems destined to leave the club. In the case of Foden, Lewis, and Bobb each player is technically superb. That has helped them break through at City. Divine Mukasa has technical quality in spades. That sets him up well to become a Manchester City player. Divine Mukasa is an attacking midfielder. He is a creative force that was on full display last season. His ability to play in the pockets and create something out of nothing is exceptional. Mukasa can also score goals which makes him an infinitely more dangerous player. He is also physically imposing so playing against seasoned professionals at 17 years of age shouldn't be a massive shock to the system of Divine Mukasa. Divine Mukasa could spend the 25/26 season training with the City first team to further develop. Divine Mukasa looks ready to play at a higher level throughout the 25/26 season. At times he made it seem like he was a man playing against boys for Manchester City's under-18 side. It is clear to see that Mukasa needs to be tested at a higher level. The England youth international should move up to the City EDS side this season. He will also likely spend a significant time training with Pep Guardiola's squad. That should help him fulfil his obvious potential. It isn't expected that Divine Mukasa will be a prominent player in Pep Guardiola's squad next season. But it won't be a surprise if and when he makes his first-team debut for Manchester City at some stage during the 25/26 season. His inclusion in Manchester City's travelling squad for today's match shows how highly he is regarded at City. Divine Mukasa looks set to be the next young player to break through at Manchester City. If and when that occurs will be something worth watching out for.
