Citing rise in rape cases, US issues revised travel advisory for India
In its updated guidance, the US warned American citizens to exercise increased caution when travelling to India, stating that rape remains one of the fastest-growing crimes in the country. Incidents of sexual assault, including those against foreign visitors, have been reported in both urban areas and tourist destinations.
"Violent crime, such as sexual assault, occurs at tourist sites and other public locations," the advisory states, adding that travellers should be especially cautious in crowded or isolated areas and avoid venturing out alone after dark.
The advisory also discourages travel along the India-Pakistan border due to the risk of armed conflict, with only the Attari-Wagah crossing in Punjab open to non-citizens. "India and Pakistan have a strong military presence on their respective sides of the border. The only official border crossing for non-citizens of India or Pakistan is in Punjab. It is between Attari, India, and Wagah, Pakistan," reads the advisory. The advisory emphasises that US citizens not residing in India must obtain a Pakistani visa from their home country before any cross-border travel.

The advisory further flags the persistent threat of terrorist attacks across the country, warning that such incidents may occur with little or no warning, especially in public spaces like markets, transportation hubs, govt buildings, and tourist spots.
High-risk regions are clearly outlined, with the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir listed under a "do not travel" directive—excluding the eastern Ladakh region and Leh.
The advisory highlights the potential for terrorist violence and civil unrest, particularly in areas such as Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam, all popular with domestic and foreign tourists. Notably, terrorists had shot dead 26 tourists in Pahalgam on April 22.
While the advisory does not call for a complete halt to travel, it asks Americans to stay informed, avoid high-risk regions, and enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for timely updates and access to emergency services. The US govt also advises travellers to regularly monitor local media, follow the advice of local authorities, and review the full travel advisory on the US State Department's official website.

Which country in the world has the tallest building?
Which country in the world has the tallest building is one of those questions that everyone wonders! Well, the answer is, the world's tallest building is the Burj Khalifa, which is located in Dubai, UAE. Standing tall at a height of 828 m, the building was completed in 2010. It is the tallest man-made structure in the world. For those who don't know, the Burj Khalifa is named after Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the former president of the United Arab Emirates. This building would definitely leave you astonished with its height and the records it holds, such as tallest freestanding structure, highest occupied floor, and highest outdoor observation deck, just to mention a few. One should definitely visit the tallest building in the world and witness a once-in-a-lifetime experience with the perfect view. Let's have a look at some interesting facts about this building: Architectural marvel inspired by the desert flower Hymenocallis This building is designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM), with the chief architect being Adrian Smith and structural engineer Bill Baker. This building was inspired by the desert flower Hymenocallis, which is why it is shaped in a Y-shaped floor plan with three wings around a hexagonal core. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Wringinanom: Unsold Sofas May Be at Bargain Prices (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo This layout enables structural stability, maximizes sea views, and also depicts the Islamic architectural motifs like onion domes. Its foundation is built in such a way that it provides exceptional stability, as it is built on a thick concrete mat and is supported by 192 deep piles into the soil of Dubai. Modern Amenities The tallest tower of the building is home to 900 luxury residences along with corporate offices and the Armani Hotel, which is located on the floors 1–8 and also some parts are on the 38–39 floors. Here, one can also visit the world's highest restaurant, which is on the 122nd floor of the building—two of the world-famous sites in one place itself: the tallest building and the world's highest restaurant. This building also offers a lot of luxuries such as a spa, pools, a gym, and luxury lounges. Visitors can witness the most breathtaking view of Dubai from this building through its observation decks. At the top, on the floor 124 and 125, it has the AR telescopes from which one can also see Iran on clear days. Sustainability This building has been made of reflective glass along with aluminum and stainless-steel panels designed to withstand Dubai's heat and high winds. Designers had designed this building in a way that it has geometric setbacks that disrupt wind flow. It is said that they did over 40 tunnel tests to refine the architecture of the building and to minimize structural stress without built-in dampers. This building also has great energy and water efficiency, as the façade glazing reflects solar heat and reduces the cooling load, and the condensation by the A/C is used to irrigate surrounding areas. The solar panels can preheat 140,000 gallons of water each day. One of the Fastest Elevators in the world Among many records, there's one of the fastest elevators in the world. The building has not only focused on being an architectural marvel but also on the workings of the interior of the building as well as on being sustainable. Burj Khalifa has the world's lengthiest lift, almost 140 stories long. This elevator travels at a speed of 10 meters per second, which is why the tallest structure also has one of the world's fastest elevators in the world. What is even more surprising is that the elevator reaches the 124th floor in less than a minute. Impressive and so cool! The Dubai Fountain This is quite a unique fact about the world's tallest building—that it has a Dubai Fountain around it, which is also the largest dancing fountain system in the world and is the size of almost two football fields. It is considered that people explore the fountain in traditional boats, and this fountain also hosts a sound and light show. With so many colourful feathers in its cap, the Burj Khalifa is definitely a must visit attraction in Dubai!

Bureaucratic knots, heritage hurdles stall Karnataka's Rs 100 crore tourism push
Bengaluru: Despite the Centre sanctioning nearly Rs 100 crore under its Swadesh Darshan scheme to bolster tourism infrastructure in Karnataka, the state govt is struggling to translate plans into action due to a mixture of technical bottlenecks and political delays. Earlier this week, Union tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat told the Lok Sabha that projects for Udupi and Bidar districts had been approved under the Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD), a component of Swadesh Darshan. However, he added, "No project at these destinations has been sanctioned, and the govt of Karnataka has been advised to obtain necessary clearances." The minister was responding to a query from Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Kota Shrinivas Poojary. While the Centre has given its nod in principle, the projects await final approvals due to objections raised by other central departments. Tourism director KV Rajendra told TOI that although detailed proposals have been submitted, regulatory hurdles remain. "While MoEF has sought a map of 1:4000 to be prepared for CRZ clearances, the NMA considers the location as too sensitive for fresh structures." The state has now roped in National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management to prepare the CRZ map for the Udupi project. "We are in talks with both central agencies and are trying to convince them," Rajendra said. "For the Bidar fort development project, the govt is trying to persuade the Centre to consider its proposal." Also, two flagship tourism initiatives proposed in Mysuru under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 are entangled in political limbo. Department sources said a Rs 2.7 crore plan to create a 'tonga ride heritage experience zone' and an 'ecological experience zone' are still awaiting the chief minister's approval. "Since it is the CM's home district, we are waiting for him to lay the foundation stone for the two projects," an official said. The heritage tonga ride aims to recreate royal-era charm by setting up five carriage stations that will ferry tourists around Mysuru Palace. The ecological experience is designed to complement the Mysuru zoo with themed installations and green trails. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Commuters express frustration as Pune shivneri bus takes longer than shared cab
Mumbai: Travelling by the Mumbai-Pune Shivneri may not be a pleasant and comfortable experience. Recently, passengers were left fuming as the journey was delayed by over two hours to travel from Mumbai to Pune on this popular intercity AC bus. "It is a complete waste of time. A shared cab would have cost Rs 400 but reached in three hours. Instead, I was sitting inside the bus, which halted at many stops en route, and the wait time was longer as well. It reached Pune in five and a half hours," recalled a passenger who boarded the bus from Dadar. "Why are there too many stops in Mumbai before the bus hits the Expressway? And then, a 20-minute scheduled halt on the Expressway?" he said. A passenger said that the bus is also not good compared to the Rs 590 fare one pays for the journey. "Imagine there is a road with no traffic jams, and the bus still prefers to halt for a long duration in Mumbai after leaving Dadar depot. It's frustrating," the passenger recalled. Sources said that the bus keeps waiting for passengers en route if seats continue to remain vacant after leaving Dadar depot. When contacted, an MSRTC official said that the matter will be looked into. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The official further said that if one booked a Pune bus via Atal Setu, there were no issues or complaints. "We have found that buses using the route through Vashi bridge-Nerul-Kharghar are facing this problem of unwarranted stoppages en route," he said. The MSRTC wants to deploy more buses on the Atal Setu to expedite journeys for passengers in the near future. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai Passengers have also complained of rash driving by some of the drivers on the Expressway and other roads. It may be recalled that a few months ago, 12 passengers of a Mumbai-Pune Shivneri bus escaped unharmed in a mishap in which the bus climbed on the road divider in Sion. The e-Shivneri bus started from the Dadar bus stand around 5.30 am, and when it was crossing the flyover near Sion police station, the bus swerved a bit and jumped on the divider. While the exact cause is not known, officials said that the driver was not drunk nor "half asleep" when the incident occurred, an MSRTC official claimed after the incident. The driver was, however, taken off duty for 10 days. Passengers have also complained in the past about a few cases of drivers speaking on mobile phones.
