Ozzy Osbourne's abandoned F1 grid walk interview and X-rated answer stunned Martin Brundle

F1 legend Martin Brundle got in trouble with TV bosses for what Ozzy Osbourne said to him during a brief but iconic grid walk interview at the Canadian Grand Prix Ozzy Osbourne provided Martin Brundle with one of his most memorable Formula 1 grid walk encounters. The iconic Black Sabbath frontman, who has died at the age of 76, wasn't particularly known for his passion for F1, but he did make an appearance at least once at a grand prix. ‌ The Birmingham-born rock legend was a VIP guest at the 2003 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. He turned up on the grid before the race began, with reporters eager to speak to him. ‌ Brundle, the voice of ITV's F1 coverage at the time, positioned himself perfectly for an interview, only to find himself battling to extract anything sensible from the star. In a moment that has become legendary, Brundle quipped: "I'll try and think of a question to that answer." ‌ He was then forced to end the chat abruptly after Osbourne let slip a swear word on live television, which got Brundle into trouble with his superiors. Reflecting on the incident, Brundle once said: "He wasn't fully with it, shall we say. I asked him a question and he gave me a very long, incomprehensible answer. "I said to him, 'I'll try and think of a question to that, but in the meantime how are the dogs?' And he said, 'They are at home s****** on the carpets.' It went out live to millions of people and I got in trouble because I was supposed to have known he would swear if I asked that question." Osbourne did at least engage with Brundle, who has branded his grid walks in general as "car crash television". While many stars are happy to converse with the ex-F1 driver on the grid, some have notoriously snubbed him. Over two decades since that encounter, Sky Sports ' Brundle can look back with a sense of humour, though he'd rather be remembered for his racing career. Earlier this year, he told the Daily Mail:"The grid walk actually really annoys me because that's what I'm known for now. ‌ "The whole thing is still a mystery. I won a lot of races as a driver and was on the F1 podium. I was World Sportscar Champion, winner at Le Mans, beat Ayrton Senna a lot of times in F3. "I was a reasonably handy racing driver and I'm a reasonably handy commentator but all I'm going to be remembered for is getting ignored on the grid by the Megan Thee Stallion and other people I'd never heard of until that moment. "It's quite a funny thing but I can't knock it, heading towards 66, I'm lucky to still be in live sport and that's why I was pleased with the OBE because it wasn't an OBE just for grid-walking." Osbourne passed away just weeks after a reunion gig in Birmingham. The Prince of Darkness, who had been battling Parkinson's disease since 2019, died "with his family and surrounded by love". A family statement, issued on Tuesday, said: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time."

Why is EastEnders not on tonight? Soap schedule changes revealed

EastEnders has been hit by yet more schedule changes, taking the BBC soap off air tonight. Soap fans have faced plenty of disruption this summer, with various sporting events playing havoc with our regular viewing schedules. Tonight, it is EastEnders that takes the brunt of the changes, with Emmerdale having been affected earlier this week. The ITV soap was shunted from its usual slot by coverage of the England vs Italy UEFA Women's Euro match, which saw the Lionesses take home the victory with two goals to one. In previous weeks, EastEnders has also been shifted for events like Wimbledon and previous UEFA Women's Euro football matches Instead of their usual trip to Albert Square at 7.30pm this evening, BBC1 viewers will be met with coverage of the UEFA Women's Euro. Tonight, Germany takes on Spain in the second semi-final of the event, with the match set to kick off at 8pm. Fortunately, EastEnders fans haven't missed out on their weekly dose of drama, with the soap having aired a double-bill of episodes last night. The London-based soap will next hit our screens at its usual time of 7.30pm tomorrow, where there is more drama for the Brannings and Panesars. Oscar Branning (Pierre Moullier) gets a warning from uncle Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) tomorrow night, demanding that he not cause Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) and Peter Beale (Thomas Law) any trouble. However, when Oscar later agrees to babysit so the couple can go out for a meal, he is horrified when an old acquaintance arrives and threatens him, leaving another sinister threat behind as he scarpers. More Trending Elsewhere, Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) has a lot on her plate as Vinny Panesar (Shiv Jalota) leaves for Ash's engagement party and she heads to discuss Avani Nandra-Hart's (Aaliyah James) pregnancy with the Granthi. Later, she manages to fix things with Eve Unwin (Heather Peace)as she makes amends for her recent behaviour. View More » Meanwhile, Avani explains the reasoning behind her decision to have an abortion to Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman). The major revamp of the building, which first opened its doors in 1878, was planned due to it falling into disrepair. Bosses said it was no longer fit for purpose and wanted to regenerate it for the 21st century, while keeping its unique Victoria charm. The theatre will boast a new foyer, improved accessibility, a new 150-seater multi-purpose studio theatre. Advertisement There will also be a new bar area and social spaces, with enhanced backstage facilities for performers. And on August 23, a community-led parade will officially mark the reopening of the theatre after seven years, The Glasgow Times reports. Everyone is invited to a weekend of free creative workshops, events and behind-the-scenes tours on August 23 and 24. Bookable events such as workshops, introductory tours and creative session will be available from August 28 to September 5. Advertisement The first production will be Small Acts of Love from September 12 - a major new work about the bonds formed between families on both sides of the Atlantic in the wake of the Pan Am 103 atrocity in Lockerbie. And in October, the brand new 150-seat Studio Theatre is opened with two productions by the theatre's Participate groups. Oscar-nominated Toni Collette spotted dancing in Glasgow theatre as fans hail 'legend' In addition, the theatre's longstanding commitment to its Gorbals neighbours will continue through a new Gorbals Pass giving access to tickets for just £5 for locals with a G5 postcode. The theatre's Participate director Catrin Evans said: "This homecoming is inspired by our fantastic new building that we know so many people are keen to get inside - but it's also about so much more. Advertisement "It's about reconnecting with our neighbours, welcoming new voices and celebrating creativity itself as a form of community-building. "We're offering a range of activities so that everyone and anyone can step into the Citizens Theatre, try something new, take themselves on a journey and feel that this space belongs to them. "Whether it's your first time through the doors or you've been part of the Citz story for years, we can't wait to welcome you home." Advertisement We previously told how there will be a number of road closures around the venue as it prepares to reopen to the public. As the historic venue gets ready to welcome back audiences, Glasgow City Council has announced several streets will be shut. The road closures will take place between August 22 and 23. Gorbals Street will be shut between Ballater Street and Cumberland Street from 3pm on August 22 until 3.30pm on August 23. On August 23, traffic will not be allowed to flow along Gorbals Street between Ballater Street and Cumberland Street from 9am until 3.30pm.
