"Won't stoop to lows of BJP and JDS...": Karnataka Dy CM Shivakumar refuses to "politicise" Ahmedabad plane crash
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 16 (ANI): Lashing out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular) for their 'politics over dead bodies' brand of politics, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday said that the Congress party would not politicise the Ahmedabad plane crash.
'Such an incident should not happen in any country...I will not do politics on this issue,' Shivakumar told reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence, adding, 'We won't stoop to the lows of BJP and JDS and won't try to politicise the Ahmedabad plane crash.'
He said that such plane crashes must not occur anywhere in the world since it has left several students of the BJ Medical College traumatised after witnessing the death of their peers.
Shivakumar said, 'A tragedy like the Ahmedabad plane crash should not happen anywhere in the world. It is devastating to see the crash site. Thousands of people would have died had the plane travelled another 500 meters before crashing. Unfortunately, several students of a medical college were killed in the crash, and many are traumatised. A Congress party delegation under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge met some of the injured and enquired about their health.'
When asked if questions are being raised about the functioning of the Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, he refused to criticise Naidu. He said that there were many technical aspects to the Ahmedabad plane crash.
'We refuse to do politics over dead bodies. We can talk about a lot of things, comparing it to how things were handled in the past, but we do not want to stoop to their level. There are many technical aspects to this crash. I am not an expert, and I won't criticise the Union Aviation Minister at this juncture. It is a serious issue,' Shivakumar added.
When asked about Kumaraswamy's statement that he would have given Rs 5,000 under Gruhalakshmi, given the amount of taxes the state government was collecting, he said, 'Happy to hear that, let him get well soon.' (ANI)

Road widening work begins in Vemulawada
Sircilla: The road widening work that has been pending in the town for a decade in Vemulawada town, where Sri Vemulawada Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple, known as the Dakshina Kashi of Sircilla, is located commenced. Government Whip and Vemulawada MLA Adi Srinivas told The Hans India that on November 20, under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, in the presence of 8 ministers, the foundation stone was laid for the expansion of the temple with a cost of Rs 76 crore, for the road widening with a cost of Rs 47 crore and for the construction of Anna Satram with a cost of Rs 35 crore. The town development goes on in accordance with the increasing urban population. The MLA said he and the officials visited Sringeri Peethani 4 times to expand the Vemulawada temple in 4 acres and are moving forward with the development of the temple after taking their suggestions and advice. Better facilities will be provided to the devotees of Rajanna who come from other states as well as from our own state so that they can have a quick darshan, he said. On the occasion of the road expansion from Vemulawada Tippapur Bridge to Sri Rajarajeshwara Swamy Temple, Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha and Vemulawada RDO Radhabai distributed cheques to 20 displaced persons who are parting with their lands.

Perform in the local body polls or perish: Revanth warns ministers
Hyderabad: The performance of the ministers in the upcoming local body elections will be a litmus test for them. Those who fail to achieve the desired results in the crucial elections w ill face the consequences. This was the hard-hitting warning served by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to his cabinet colleagues during an informal meeting with them here on Monday. The local body elections, release of Rythu Bharosa funds and implementation of Rajiv Yuva Vikasam, Indiramma houses and other welfare and development programmes initiated by the state government came up for discussion during the meeting. The Chief minister explained about the Congress strategy to defeat the opposition in the ensuing elections and winning most of the local bodies, especially Grama Panchayats, Mandal Parishads, Zilla Parishad and municipalities. Hinting at the release of a notification for the local body elections later this month, Revanth Reddy cautioned the ministers that the party high command will take a call on their continuation in the cabinet based on their performances in the local body elections. Sources said that the ministers brought to the fore some challenges being faced by them in some Assembly constituencies where the local leaders are unhappy due to delay in filling nominated posts. They also urged the CM to release funds to complete pending works that were taken up in local bodies to avoid ground-level resentment that could impact the poll prospects. The ministers were also given the responsibility of coordinating with the local MLAs and providing necessary support to address the local issues before the election notification was issued. The Chief Minister urged the ministers to take up a campaign on the implementation of the schemes at the gross-root level, mainly disbursement of the Rythu Bharosa benefits, selection of beneficiaries under Indiramma, Rajiv Yuva Viaksam and release of funds to women self-help groups. The ministers have been asked to organize special meetings with women groups and convince them to support the Congress in the ensuing local body elections.
