The Kansas City Chiefs invested a first-round pick, 32nd overall, on Josh Simmons to be part of the group that protects Patrick Mahomes. Last season, the Chiefs were middle of the pack in sacks allowed with 41, so there's room for improvement on that unit.
After giving up six sacks in the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chiefs decided that Simmons will be the guy to help with the overhaul and Patrick Mahomes is excited to have the Ohio State product protect him as he told Kay Adams.
"He's just a dog at the end of the day," Mahomes told Adams "He's obviously working through being an NFL pro and becoming a veteran. But when it comes to pass blocking and run blocking, he can get the job done. That's where it all starts. He's getting tested out here by [Steve Spagnuolo] with the defensive line that we have.
"But I don't think there was one specific moment. I think it's more about hearing the defensive guys talk about him. He does the right things when you want a guy who's going to go out there and contribute. The sky's the limit. He has a chance to be one of the best there is at left tackle."
Kansas City cannot afford to have an injury happen to Mahomes because they didn't have the proper offensive line to ensure that their star player stays upright and has enough time to throw the football.

Mahomes' comments should lead many to believe that Simmons could be a rookie who could hit the ground running and not have that adaptation phase that some first-year players make when transitioning from college to the pros.
The Chiefs' first game of the season will be out of the country as they face their AFC West rival, the San Diego Chargers, on September 5 in São Paulo, Brazil, at Neo Química Arena.

Bournemouth FC: Antoine Semenyo kicks off his season with a brace against Liverpool

The Ghanaian forward makes a statement on opening day despite the Cherries' defeat at Anfield. Bournemouth FC: Antoine Semenyo kicks off his season with a brace against Liverpool Antoine Semenyo netted twice against Liverpool this Friday, August 15, 2025, at Anfield, on the opening day of the 2025/26 Premier League season. Despite Bournemouth's 4-2 defeat, the Ghanaian winger stood out with his blistering pace and clinical finishing. Antoine Semenyo delivered a standout performance in his first match of the 2025-26 season. The 25-year-old Ghanaian winger was the driving force behind Bournemouth's spectacular comeback attempt in a match that seemed lost after goals from Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo. Liverpool, reigning champions, assert their ambitions against Bournemouth Liverpool quickly established a comfortable lead in this season opener, thanks to Hugo Ekitike, who marked his Premier League debut with a goal and an assist. The Frenchman opened the scoring in the 37th minute before setting up Cody Gakpo for the second goal in the 49th. Antoine Semenyo's response began in the 64th minute, latching onto a pinpoint cross from David Brooks. The Ghana international slotted the ball home to reduce the deficit and reignite his team's hopes. That goal energized Bournemouth, and the Cherries began to believe in a miracle. Semenyo's second goal will be remembered as one of the finest of this opening round. In the 78th minute, he won the ball deep in his own half and embarked on a dazzling solo run of over 70 meters, finishing with a low drive that left Alisson rooted to the spot. Sadly for Andoni Iraola's men, that stunning equaliser wasn't enough. Liverpool regained the lead through Federico Chiesa in the 88th minute, before Mohamed Salah sealed the result in stoppage time. Semenyo's performance continues his run of strong showings at Anfield. He now boasts the remarkable feat of having scored half of Bournemouth's Premier League goals at this legendary stadium—three out of the Cherries' six strikes.
