Queen Is Unlike Most Bands When It Comes To The Charts

Forbes17-06-2025
Queen's name remains ever-present on the music charts in the United Kingdom. The group's catalog is so filled with hit singles that at least one compilation powered by its songs keeps the band on the weekly rankings, and in some cases, multiple collections appear. That's the case this frame, as several of Queen's most popular compilations not only make room on the charts, but return to them – but there's no crossover between the band's comebacks.
Queen's Greatest Hits is present on four lists in the U.K. this week, and it returns to two of them. Typically, when a collection reappears on multiple rankings, it's because consumption of the set is growing in one form or another. This time around, Greatest Hits breaks back onto both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts at Nos. 87 and 86, respectively. At the same time, it declines on both the Official Albums Streaming roster and the Official Albums ranking, which measures the most consumed full-lengths and EPs in the nation.
Queen also finds its way back to the Official Album Downloads chart, but not with Greatest Hits. Instead, another similar compilation, The Platinum Collection, reappears at No. 76 on the ranking of the most downloaded projects in the U.K.
Queen currently appears on five different albums rankings in the nation with multiple projects, but there's no overlap between them at the moment. The outfit doesn't take up more than one space on a single list at a time, and yet there's enough interest in the band's work to power the two titles.
Queen has reached No. 1 on most of the tallies the group currently appears on with these albums – but not in every instance. Greatest Hits still has yet to become the most-streamed release in the U.K. at any point, as it has thus far peaked at No. 5 on the Official Albums Streaming roster. The Platinum Collection, meanwhile, has climbed as high as No. 4, despite the fact that it has lived on the list for 356 frames.
It's not uncommon for legacy acts like Queen to continue charting thanks to compilations, as that is typically how most fans revisit the smash hits that made a band famous in the first place. What's notable when it comes to Queen's performance is that the group remains on these rankings for hundreds of weeks at a time — and that the rockers can sometimes see multiple similar compilations live on the tallies simultaneously. That consistent presence shows that there is demand not just for these projects, but also for the tunes featured on their tracklists.

Tyler, The Creator Hits No. 1 For The First Time With His Surprise New Album

Tyler, The Creator's new album Don't Tap the Glass debuts at No. 1 on multiple charts in the United ... More Kingdom, bringing the hip-hop superstar to the top spot for the first time. HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA - FEBRUARY 01: Tyler, the Creator attends the U.S. Premiere of "Jackass Forever" at TCL Chinese Theatre on February 01, 2022 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic) Tyler, The Creator shocked fans recently with the surprise release of his brand new album Don't Tap the Glass. The set arrived in the middle of a tracking week, which meant it had only a few days to accumulate sales and streams before reaching charts everywhere. That compressed timeline didn't seem to hinder its success, as the collection manages to open in lofty positions on rankings around the globe, and it accomplishes an impressive showing in the United Kingdom. Tyler, The Creator Scores Multiple No. 1s Don't Tap the Glass starts at No. 1 on multiple tallies in the U.K. As the full-length debuts, it earns Tyler his first leader on three of those rosters. The set opens atop the Official Albums Sales, Official Physical Albums, and Official Vinyl Albums charts. While the Grammy winner has previously reached the top 10 with several releases on each of those rosters, this week marks the first time one of his efforts has conquered the trio of lists. Don't Tap the Glass Rules the Hip-Hop and R&B Chart Tyler's latest studio effort dominates the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart as it arrives. This week isn't the first time he has led that genre-specific ranking, though. Igor earned him his first No. 1 back in 2019. He doubled that total in late 2024 with A Chromakopia. Several other Tyler releases like Goblin, Wolf, Cherry Bomb, and Call Me If You Get Lost narrowly missed the throne by just one space each, while Flower Boy peaked at No. 3. Tyler Comes Close to No. 1 on the U.K. Albums Chart On the main Official Albums chart, which tracks the biggest full-lengths and EPs in the U.K. using a general consumption methodology, Don't Tap the Glass opens at No. 2. It starts at No. 8 on the Official Albums Streaming tally, and misses the top 10 entirely on the Official Albums Downloads roster, where it debuts at No. 24. Physical format sales appear to be the driving force behind the album's rapid success, as digital purchases played a less significant role in its arrival.

ABBA's Album Is So Huge, Fans Need Several Versions At The Same Time

Two versions of ABBA's Gold reenter the U.K. charts, with the original hitting four tallies and the ... More anniversary edition returning to the Official Album Downloads list. ABBA pose for a group portrait in Stockholm, April 1976. (L-R) Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad. (Photo by) ABBA's Gold is one of the most valuable albums in pop history, as it's packed with dozens of popular singles — many of which rank among the most famous and catchiest tunes of all time. The group has expertly capitalized on the success of these songs by releasing multiple compilations over the years but none have performed as consistently well as Gold. The album is so popular in the United Kingdom that there's room for more than one version of the title to appear on the charts at the same time on occasion – and this week is one such occasion. Two Versions of Gold Return to the Rankings Two different editions of Gold not only land on U.K. charts this week, but return to a tally apiece. The anniversary edition of the compilation reappears on the Official Album Downloads chart at No. 88. In the past, the anniversary edition — which is counted separately from the standard Gold — has peaked at No. 8 on the downloads list. It has now spent 237 weeks on that particular ranking. The Original Gold is Also Back The standard Gold, officially titled Gold: Greatest Hits, also manages to break back onto one chart, though not the downloads tally. Instead, it reenters the Official Albums Sales chart at No. 93. That original take previously reached the top 10, peaking at No. 5. It has already spent twice as many weeks on the downloads list as the anniversary edition has, as it recently pushed past 500 frames. Gold Appears on Four Charts This Week The first Gold compilation can currently be found on four U.K.-based rankings. As it returns to the sales tally, it climbs to No. 42 on the Official Album Downloads chart, sitting more than 40 spaces ahead of the anniversary edition of the same title. Coincidentally, Gold also lands at No. 19 on both the Official Albums and Official Albums Streaming charts.

Ariana Grande's Album Returns Just Ahead Of ‘Wicked: For Good'

Ariana Grande's Eternal Sunshine returns to four U.K. charts as fans revisit her catalog ahead of ... More her Wicked: For Good film and soundtrack release. HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 02: Ariana Grande performs onstage during the 97th Annual Oscars at Dolby Theatre on March 02, 2025 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by) In a few months, Ariana Grande will release a new album, but fans shouldn't expect a full collection of brand new pop tunes. The singer and actress is set to star in Wicked: For Good, the second part of the Wicked musical blockbuster, which will hit theaters this fall. The Grammy winner, alongside her co-star Cynthia Erivo, was credited on the original Wicked soundtrack, and since the sequel features a number of songs from the Broadway musical, as well as two original compositions, it's likely both stars will be named again. Ahead of that project dropping, fans in the United Kingdom have pushed Grande's most recent solo effort back onto several tallies, and some of her biggest career smashes are climbing once again as well. Ariana Grande's Eternal Sunshine Rebounds Grande's album Eternal Sunshine can currently be found on four charts in the U.K., and it returns to half of them. The set surges on both the Official Albums and Official Albums Streaming lists, lifting dozens of spaces at once. At the same time, it also becomes a bestseller again, reappearing on the Official Physical Albums and Official Albums Sales rankings, landing at Nos. 81 and 88, respectively. Eternal Sunshine and Brighter Days Ahead Grande originally released Eternal Sunshine in March 2024, when it became another No. 1 on rankings all around the world. The singer promoted several singles from the project, including "Yes, And?" and "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)," both of which reached the top 10 in dozens of markets. A year later, in March 2025, Grande issued Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead, which included six new songs and a handful of remixes. That re-release returned the project to the charts, though its momentum slowed after a few frames. Still, interest in the Grammy-nominated effort apparently remains relatively high, especially this frame. Ariana Grande's Old Hits Surge — Even a Holiday Favorite Three of Grande's singles appear on the same tally in the U.K. this frame, and none come from Eternal Sunshine or Wicked. "Break Free" and "Problem," her collaboration with Iggy Azalea, reappear on the Official Physical Singles chart at Nos. 77 and 96, respectively. They're joined by her holiday favorite "Santa Tell Me," which remains present despite the fact that it's the middle of the summer. That Christmas classic dips 20 spots, but it will likely rebound as the end of the year approaches.
