An invitation to the Met Gala is a sure-fire sign you've hit the big time, and internet sensation Emma Chamberlain has now bagged five. But what's the secret behind her meteoric rise to fame?
For those not in the know, Emma is a vlogger, podcaster, fashionista and even a coffee businesswoman. She's hailed as one of the globe's most successful YouTubers with a whopping 12.1m subscribers tuning into her main channel and an additional 300,000 following her Anything Goes podcast channel.
But her influence doesn't stop at YouTube, she boasts a staggering 14.7m followers on her Instagram page alone and over half a million fans follow her Chamberlain Coffee brand's Instagram page.
Her journey to stardom kicked off in 2017 when she uploaded her first-ever YouTube video. One of her early videos that year was a 22-minute clip where she answered 72 questions about herself, from her bad habits to her favourite teacher. Another popular video posted that same year was a dollar store shopping haul which racked up 500,000 views, reports OK!
Her infectious charisma, which oozes from every video, and her candidness played a massive role in her success, but she also pioneered a chaotic editing style that has since been widely imitated. This signature style involved comedic zoom-ins, distortion and smash cuts.
By 2018, just a year after she started posting, she had already amassed one million subscribers on her YouTube channel. She also collaborated with more established YouTubers to create content, further drawing in her viewers and launched her own clothing line, High-Key that year.
Her expanding digital footprint landed her increasingly prestigious opportunities, including a coveted front row spot at her debut fashion show in 2019.
Since then, she's been photographed at numerous shows and A-list events, amplifying the excitement surrounding her, and she's now a regular fixture interviewing stars for Vogue.
In recent years, the 24-year-old's follower count has declined somewhat as she's shifted focus towards other ventures like her podcast and coffee enterprise, moving away from the vlogs that initially launched her to stardom.
She now typically uploads to her YouTube channel monthly rather than weekly, sharing lengthier videos crafted like mini documentaries.
"I think the last two years have just been a lot of experiments and a lot of just trying to be present while I figure out what's next," she revealed in a 2025 interview with Byrdie. "Being a public figure on the internet right now is just waiting for attack."
She continued: "I'm really trying to get over my overall fear of the witch hunt that is the internet. Because if I want this to be my career, you can't function properly [if you're scared], and that's been [the case] for the majority of my last few years. But I'm fighting that demon. I'm getting through it."
