Missing man, 29, heard calling for help from underground after suffering stomach-churning accident
A missing Texas man was miraculously found underground after he was heard shouting for help from inside a septic tank. The unidentified 29-year-old man was rescued by firefighters on August 8 after a homeowner in Edinburg - about three hours outside of San Antonio - reported his uncle was missing. The homeowner started to worry about his family member that morning after he failed to show up to his usual meeting place, a daycare, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office. While performing the wellness check at 9.05am, a deputy soon 'heard a faint noise coming from the ground' in the backyard, the sheriff's office said. Soon enough, authorities discovered 'the man trapped underneath a tire in a septic tank' after falling 'through a small opening,' the Edinburg Fire Department said. The victim was stuck in the smelly tank for about 12 hours as he was last seen around 9pm the night before, authorities said. The fire department and medics quickly arrived at the scene to assist with the rescue as more than 15 first responders were seen guiding the man out of the confined space. A dramatic image showed the victim's head poking out of the ground as he wore large headphones while rescuers guided him out. The team of firefighters soon were able to break him free after cutting through the concrete and pulling him out of the tank safely. He was taken to a hospital and remains in stable condition. Daily Mail contacted the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office and Edinburg Fire Department for more information. Edinburg locals expressed their gratitude toward the officials who saved the man's life after the fire department posted about the rescue on Facebook. One wrote: 'Now that's professional. Awesome job everyone!' 'Thank you Edinburg Fire Department,' wrote another. While many were thankful the man made it out safely, some were curious how it happened in the first place. A commenter asked: 'May someone explain how this happened so we can avoid this happening to someone else?' Frank Zungia, a septic tank professional in Edinburg, explained to Daily Mail what he thinks might have caused the man to fall in. 'Equipment and lids should last about 10 years or so. That's why it's good to do preventive maintenance every three to five years, so you can check if they're still in good shape or starting to go bad,' Zungia said. 'In this case, it could have already been deteriorating underground. The gentleman may have stepped in the wrong spot, and it gave way. It finished deteriorating and collapsed, sending him all the way through.' Zungia heard about the frightening incident himself and tried to see if he could be of any help, he explained. 'I heard about it and actually called one of my buddies in the fire department to see if there was anything we could do to help them out,' the expert stated. 'But by then, they were already done — maybe they needed help replacing the lid or something, I guess, but no. Everything had already been taken care of.' When asked about tires within septic tanks, such as the one that trapped the man, Zungia was confused and suggested it might have been a pipe, specifically a 'burning line.' An investigation into the case is ongoing, according to the sheriff's office.

Three teenagers accused of killing electrician on Isle of Sheppey will go on trial next year
A trial date has been set for three teenagers who allegedly beat a man to death with a concrete slab at a seaside resort. Alexander Cashford, 49, was found dead with multiple serious injuries in Leysdown-on-Sea on the Isle of Sheppey on Sunday. A 16-year-old girl and two boys, aged 15 and 14, were charged with his murder on Tuesday. On Thursday, a provisional trial date was set at Maidstone Crown Court for January 13 next year. The three are charged with murder by joint venture after a 'violent assault' took place near the beach in Warden Bay. Kent Police were called to the Warden Bay Road area shortly after 7pm on Sunday, after an altercation involving a small number of people. Mr Cashford was confirmed dead at the scene, and police said multiple injuries to his body were reported. A 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 14 and 15, all from London, were thought to have been on holiday in Kent at the time of the attack. Some local residents witnessed the attack, and tried to provide CPR to Mr Cashford, the court heard. The 16-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy appeared in court on Thursday morning and spoke only to confirm their 15-year-old boy appeared by video link from a youth detention centre. Family members of all three teenagers watched proceedings from the public gallery. The attack is alleged to have involved a glass bottle and rocks being thrown, the court heard. On Thursday, the prosecution said the cause of Mr Cashford's death is currently inconclusive as he seems to have suffered a 'medical episode such as a cardiac arrest could have been brought on by being chased and attacked'. He was found with bruising to his 'lower ribs and stomach' along with an injury to his head, the court heard. A 12-year-old girl, arrested on Tuesday in Basildon, Essex, in connection with the incident has been bailed. The 16-year-old girl and the two boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been remanded into youth detention accommodation. A plea and trial preparation date has been set for November 6. Yesterday specialist officers brought a sniffer dog to the scene as they continue to search for evidence. A police spaniel was seen sniffing around a small area with police tape set up around it. The cordon was put up in a large clearing behind the beach in front of a caravan park. They also covered some areas of the scrap land behind Warden Bay Beach. Mr Cashford appeared in court earlier this year, accused of following a young woman home from work and visiting her house in the early hours of the morning, where he posted a chocolate bar and a letter through her door. The daily Mail revealed that Mr Cashford, from Rainham, in Kent, visited the address in nearby Gillingham twice, first at 1.39am and then seven minutes later at 1.46am on March 9. He admitted a charge of stalking involving serious alarm and distress at North Kent Magistrates' Court on March 17 and was placed on a month's curfew and fitted with a tag which was to remain in place until September 16. Magistrates warned him to refrain from contacting the woman he followed, to keep away from her address and he was banned from the Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre in Gillingham. The Daily Mail can also reveal that Mr Cashford, who worked as an electrician, was jailed for three years and four months in 2015 after stealing vehicle parts worth more than £63,000. He pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to nearly 200 offences relating to vehicle theft, money laundering and making off without payment
