Only a Workers' State Can Solve Labor Issues," Says CPM on May Day in Jogulamba Gadwal
Gadwal: On the occasion of International Workers' Day (May Day), Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPM] District Secretary A. Venkataswamy emphasized that only the establishment of a workers' state can resolve the growing challenges faced by the working class in India. He hoisted the CPM flag at the party's district office in Gadwal on Thursday and addressed party members and workers.
Venkataswamy stated that the country is undergoing an unprecedented economic, political, and social crisis. He attributed the worsening conditions to the policies being driven by capitalist interests, which prioritize corporate profits over people's welfare. He strongly criticized the government's ongoing support for corporate entities by amending laws in their favor, allowing unchecked corruption, and undermining public institutions.
He condemned the aggressive privatization of public sector undertakings and pointed out the rising exploitation of labor in private sectors as a major factor behind the declining living standards of workers. He also accused the ruling authorities of systematically eroding trade union rights, preventing workers from organizing to protect their interests.
Calling for the inspiration of the historic Chicago workers' struggle, Venkataswamy declared that the CPM will continue its fight for a society free of inequality. He urged the working class to gear up for a transformative movement aimed at establishing a worker-centric governance system in the country.
He also extended full support to the nationwide general strike planned on May 20, urging laborers, farmers, and the general public to participate in large numbers to protest against the central government's anti-people policies.
The event was attended by CPM district committee members including Upper Narasimha, Naresh, Ramakrishna, Bhasha, Ranganna, Venkatesh, Ramudu, and Gajendra, among others.

Contribute now Hyderabad: At least one police personnel was killed, while two others were injured in a blast caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists near Dondra village of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh on Monday morning. The incident took place a day ahead of a nationwide bandh called by the Maoists to protest the encounter killing of Communist Party of India (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Kesava Rao in an encounter in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on May 21. A 42-year-old additional superintendent of police, identified as Akash Rao Giripunje, succumbed to injuries during treatment at a hospital in Konta. Rao was a direct recruit DSP of 2013 batch. He was posted at Konta last year. Meanwhile, DSP Bhanu Pratap Chandrakar and Inspector Sonhal Gavla – who were injured in the blast – were given first aid before being airlifted for treatment at a hospital in Raipur. Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P. said that their condition was out of danger. The incident happened around 10 AM on May 21 when ASP Rao was leading a police party on foot on Konta-Errabor road. The police were on foot patrol after receiving information that the Maoists had burnt an earth mover in the area. According to Sundarraj, Rao faced the full impact of the explosion as he stepped on the IED pressure bomb. Another senior police officer said the Maoists have planted IEDs deep inside the surface of several roads passing through forests in Chhattisgarh whereas the detection equipment of police are designed to identify explosives only up to a depth of two feet. In this case, it was buried more than five feet below, the officer noted. Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai said in a post on X warned that the 'Naxalites' will have to face its consequences. 'Our security forces have been fighting a big battle against Naxalites in Chhattisgarh and achieving continuous successes in it. Frustrated by this, the Naxalites have carried out such cowardly acts and they will have to face its consequences. The day is not far when their existence will end in Chhattisgarh,' he said. Sundarraj said any attempt by Maoists to break the morale of the police will fail. 'Our unwavering commitment to root out Maoism has only become stronger after the incident,' he said. Families roll beedis, cook food while protesting for homes
Mangaluru: With the indefinite dharna launched by the families of Kuppepadavu village in the Mangaluru North constituency, seeking sites and homes, entering its 11th day on Monday, women participating in the protest turned the protest venue into their workplace to roll beedis. Muneer Katipalla, district secretary of CPM, Dakshina Kannada, said that there are hundreds of poor families without their own homes or land who have been waiting for decades, having applied to the panchayat for plots. Six years ago, in a rush before the elections, families were allocated plots and distributed title deeds to 97 families. However, even after six years of receiving the title deeds, the plots were not handed over to the families, he said. Frustrated poor families formed a protest committee under the guidance of local labour organisations and CPM members and started an indefinite protest in front of the Kuppepadavu gram panchayat. Despite holding several sit-ins and protests since Jan, justice was not served. Tripura Congress leader Shahjahan Islam's father and brother arrested hours after his ‘derogatory' remarks on CM Saha
The Tripura police arrested Congress youth leader Shahjahan Islam's father and brother on Monday, hours after Islam's home in Agartala came under attack following his criticism of the government and police over incidents related to animal sacrifice for Eid al-Azha. The BJP filed a police complaint against the Congress leader over his comments about Chief Minister Manik Saha and BJP minority wing leader and state minority board chairman Jashim Uddin, among others, on social media. In a social media video, Shahjahan Islam was seen lashing out at the police and the state government for purportedly failing to stand up to miscreants who allegedly interrupted the customary animal slaughter on Bakrid and was seen spitting, expressing disgust for the police. The Congress leader also allegedly used derogatory language for Saha and called BJP minority leaders cheats, urging Muslims to 'socially boycott' community members who are leaders in the saffron party. 'He made obscene comments about the chief minister and the state government on social media. He also made comments on minority morcha leaders and myself. On one hand, there has been an attempt to malign the state government and on the other hand, there is a conspiracy to create unrest among communities. All these are found in his Facebook post,' said BJP minority wing state president Billal Miah, the complainant in the case. Islam's comments sparked a controversy online. Four people were arrested for allegedly slaughtering a cow in public near a waterbody in the Chhanban area on Saturday. Opposition political parties condemned the attack on Islam's home and demanded action. Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury said, 'This incident is deeply worrisome and condemnable. The youth who made a video, if he said such things about the CM, I don't support it. It should not be done. But the incident that happened as a reaction was even more wrong.' The CPM leader said Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman and state president Ashish Kumar Saha, who visited the site of the violence, might also have come under attack if the police were not present there. He further alleged that some locals were threatened that their houses would be ransacked if they did not leave the locality by Monday evening. Chaudhary added that he called up the DGP over the issue. 'The state government should take steps so that law and order does not deteriorate. Or else, they won't be able to contain the outrage,' he said. Congress leader Birajit Sinha also condemned the attack and said the culture of attacking houses started after the BJP came to power.
