Major supermarket teams up with Uber Eats to give shoppers exclusive loyalty scheme prices and big discounts

WAITROSE shoppers can now bag even more perks when ordering through Uber Eats.
The collaboration will make it quicker and easier to earn offers while putting dinner on the table.

The posh supermarket has extended its MyWaitrose loyalty scheme to customers using Uber Eats, meaning you can now buy products at big member-only discounts when using the app.
Loyalty members can now link their MyWaitrose card to their Uber Eats app and unlock exclusive offers on thousands of groceries delivered straight to their door in as little as 30 minutes.
While Waitrose was unable to provide examples of the discounts, The Sun has found offers of up to 25% off on essentials like milk.
The supermarket giant says that after linking the account, its discounts will appear on your Uber Eats app.
The offers will vary and change regularly.
The move is part of a wider shake-up of the chain's loyalty programme, which recently saw shoppers offered reusable coffee cups as part of a free hot drink perk.
Waitrose launched on Uber Eats in July 2023.
What started in just five London stores has now expanded to over 250 branches across the UK, stocking 18,000 products.
To do this, shoppers can sign up for MyWaitrose online and enter their loyalty number directly into the Uber Eats app when shopping at the Waitrose store.
Laura Burbedge, director of Waitrose Online, said: 'Our on-demand partnerships have enabled us to bring our quality products to new food-loving customers.

"We now want to provide greater value to customers ordering via Uber Eats.'
'To start making savings, customers just need to link their MyWaitrose account to their Uber Eats account.'
Alex Troughton, Uber Eats' Regional GM of Grocery and Retail, added: 'Our partnership with Waitrose is all about combining quality with convenience and now, with offers for MyWaitrose members, we're adding even more value.'
It's the latest sign that big supermarkets are betting big on home delivery and making it easier for customers to cash in on loyalty perks.

Here's how customers can link their MyWaitrose loyalty and Uber Eats accounts
If a customer isn't already a My Waitrose member, they can sign up here. Their card number will be instantly available
They will need to download the Uber Eats app on the App Store or Google Play
Link their My Waitrose card to the Uber Eats app by entering their loyalty number on the Waitrose store on the Uber Eats app
And shop. The offers will be visible to them.
Loyalty scheme changes at other retailers
Meanwhile, Morrisons shoppers can now earn More Points even when they're not shopping at the supermarket– thanks to a perk that launched last month.
The change means that Morrisons More Card holders can collect points with over 300 popular brands including eBay, Just Eat, Expedia, Asos, Very, and loads more.
It followed last year's decision to bring back the More Points scheme, after scrapping the old My Morrisons setup which didn't offer points on purchases.
Earlier this year, Tesco also made a major change to its Clubcard scheme, to the delight of pizza lovers.
Customers were able to exchange their points for money off drinks and food at PizzaExpress until the end of April.
Any Clubcard points exchanged for money off at Pizza Express were worth double, so a £1.50 voucher would have saved you £3.
Sainsbury's also made a huge change to its Nectar loyalty scheme for 18 million customers.
The UK's second biggest grocery store introduced a new security feature on its loyalty card app to prevent points from being stolen.
The free scheme allows customers to earn one Nectar point for every £1 spent at Sainsbury's, both in-store and online.
Supermarket loyalty schemes - which has one?
MOST UK supermarkets have loyalty schemes so customers can build up points and save money while they shop.
Here we round up what saving programmes you'll find at the big brands.
Iceland: Unlike other stores, you don't collect points with the Iceland Bonus Card. Instead, you load it up with money and Iceland will give you £1 for every £20 you save.
Lidl Plus: Lidl customers don't collect points when they shop, and are instead rewarded with personalised vouchers that gives them money off at the till.
Morrisons: The My Morrisons: Make Good Things Happen replaces the More Card and rewards customers with personalised money off vouchers via the app.
Sainsbury's: While Sainsbury's doesn't have a personal scheme, it does own the Nectar card which can also be used in Argos, eBay and other shops. You need 200 Nectar points to save up £1 to spend on your card. You need to spend at least £1 to get one Nectar point.
Tesco: Tesco Clubcard has over 17million members in the UK alone. You use it each time you shop and build up points that can be turned into vouchers - 150 points gets you a £1.50 voucher. Here you need to spend £1 in Tesco to get one point.
Waitrose: myWaitrose also doesn't allow you to collect points but instead you'll get access to free hot drinks, and discounts off certain brands in store.

Sir Keir Starmer has suffered the biggest blow to his leadership since coming into power a year ago after he was forced to abandon a key plank of his controversial benefit cuts in order to get them through parliament. While his welfare reform bill passed its second reading by 335 votes to 260 – a majority of 75 – the prime minister still suffered the largest rebellion of his premiership so far, with 49 Labour MPs voting to reject the legislation. It came after a last-ditch announcement that plans to restrict eligibility for personal independence payments (Pip) - which had been the central pillar of the government's reforms - were being dropped. The chaotic move came just 90 minutes before MPs were due to vote for on the Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment Bill for the first time, when disability minister Sir Stephen Timms announced that changes to Pip originally planned for November 2026 will not take place until after his review of the benefit has concluded. Sir Keir had already been forced into a U-turn last week when more than 130 Labour MPs signed an amendment that would have effectively killed the bill off. Among the concessions announced then was a plan to impose tougher eligibility rules only on future Pip claimants, leaving existing recipients unaffected. Critics said this would create to a two tier system, while the government's own impact assessment said the change would push 150,000 people into poverty. The latest climbdown will cause a major headache for chancellor Rachel Reeves; the welfare squeeze was intended to save £4.8 billion a year, already watered down to £2.3 billion last week. Postponing any changes to Pip means it is now uncertain how much the reforms will save. Last night the the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) warned that the reforms package could even end up costing the taxpayer £100m by in 2029/30 if proposals to tighten eligibility for Pip are scrapped following the Timms review. The vote followed a tense debate in which numerous Labour MPs criticised the plans and many more demanded they be postponed. Paula Barker, Labour MP for Liverpool Wavertree, said: "Whilst grateful for the concessions, this has further laid bare the incoherent and shambolic nature of this process. It is the most unedifying spectacle that I have ever seen." Meanwhile, Ian Lavery said the bill 'isn't fit for purpose'. "I've never once seen a massive commitment given in a Bill like the minister gave in an intervention to a contribution. This is crazy, man. This is outrageous, man. This bill isn't fit for purpose', he said. Opening the debate, work and pensions secretary Liz Kendall said: 'I do not believe that this is sustainable if we want a welfare state that protects people who most need our help for generations to come.' She added: "There is no responsibility in leaving our system of social security to continue as it is, and risk support for it becoming so frayed that it is no longer there to provide a safety net for those who can never work, and who most need our help and support." But she was met with immediate opposition from an amendment laid by Labour backbencher Rachael Maskell which would have killed the bill. She described society as "dystopian", adding that the government should introduce a wealth tax rather than cutting benefits. Ms Maskell's wrecking amendment was ultimately voted down - but was backed by 42 Labour MPs, highlighting the scale of consternation within Sir Keir's party. Emma Lewell, one of 36 signatories of Ms Maskell's reasoned amendment, told the Commons: "I am sad that we have ended up here because no matter what, regardless of concessions, a vote for this Bill today is a vote to plunge 150,000 people into poverty and to tighten eligibility criteria for those who need support the most." She added: "We are once again making disabled people pay the price for the economic mess that the party opposite left us. As it stands, we are being asked to vote blind today.' Among many Labour MPs who stood up to criticise the plans was a highly emotional contribution by Dr Marie Tidball, a disabled MP. Holding back tears, she said: "[During the Tory austerity years] I vowed then that I would do all I could to create a country which treats disabled people with dignity and respect. "With a heavy, broken heart that I will be voting against the bill today. As a matter of conscience I need my constituents to know I cannot support the changes as currently drafted on the front of the bill." The vote means that the legislation now goes to the next stages in parliament but leaves the possibility of another major rebellion for its third and final reading after the summer. The government announced the plans earlier this year but disability groups have criticised it for failing to consult, especially over plans to make it more difficult to receive personal independence payments (Pips). Tory leader Kemi Badenoch sought to capitalise on Sir Keir's discomfort, accusing ministers of 'utter capitulation' and saying the legislation was now 'pointless'. 'They should bin it, do their homework, and come back with something serious. Starmer cannot govern', she said.

LONDON, July 1 (Reuters) - Trading of derivatives contracts that provide investors with protection against UK company defaults jumped almost 50% in the first quarter of 2025 to more than $2 trillion, an International Swaps and Derivatives Association report showed on Tuesday. Credit default swaps trading reported in the UK rose by 47% to $2.3 trillion, from $1.5 trillion in the first quarter of 2024, trade body ISDA reported. The volume of insurance protection investors took out on UK corporate bonds in the first quarter illustrates the scale of unease ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of sweeping import tariffs on April 2. While a UK/U.S. trade deal has since been signed, tariff uncertainty is a headwind for corporates globally as a July 9 U.S. deadline for other countries to strike deals looms. The effective U.S. tariff rate based on announced policies has climbed to 13% from 3% at the start of the year, Goldman Sachs analysts said last week. Even if some of the harshest levies are rolled back, higher effective tariffs this year could still drive up inflation and cut into company profits and consumer spending. "Single-name CDS activity was particularly prevalent in the UK, making up 98% of European traded notional, compared to 2% in the EU," the ISDA report said. This week, trade tensions topped a list of investor concerns alongside deepening worries over a potential global recession, a Bank of America investor survey showed on Monday. Notional European CDS trading rose 28% to $3 trillion in the first quarter compared to $2.3 trillion in the first quarter of 2024, driven by heightened activity in index CDS, ISDA said. UK-reported trades represented roughly 75% of total European CDS notional trading, and almost 82% of the total trade count, while the EU accounted for around 25% and 18%, respectively, the report said.
