Licenses of eight krishi kendras suspended and sales halted at two over fertilizer sales irregularities

Nagpur: The licences of eight Krishi Seva Kendras (agriculture service centres) have been suspended, and sales at two others were halted due to irregularities in the sale of chemical fertilisers—urea and DAP. The action followed a probe conducted by the district agricultural superintendent. Inspections carried out by taluka-level quality control inspectors and flying squads revealed violations at several centres, including Om Ganesh, Rohit, Himanshu, Vaibhav, Mauli, and Shri Krishna Krishi Seva Kendras. Sources said the centres failed to provide satisfactory responses to the queries raised by the agriculture department. Nagpur district has 1,495 licensed Krishi Seva Kendras, all of which are being routinely inspected by full-time quality control inspectors assigned to each taluka. So far, 118 samples of chemical fertilisers have been tested, of which 16 were found to be substandard. This led to police action and the filing of 12 court cases. In addition, 1.20 metric tonnes of stock worth ₹1.35 lakh was seized. To prevent a shortage of urea in the district, a target was set to reserve 3,550 metric tonnes, of which 3,445 metric tonnes have already been secured. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Undo This stock was released in two phases and is now available at the agricultural centres. Another 3,830 metric tonnes of urea from companies like KRIBHCO and HUFL is expected to arrive this week. District superintendent agricultural officer Ravindra Manohare said that despite 11,000 metric tonnes of urea showing as available on PoS (Point of Sale) machines, some centres were found selling fertilisers without using the machines, which led to the suspension of their licences. Manohare added that centres must display price and stock information, maintain updated stock registers, and sell fertilisers strictly through PoS machines to ensure transparency and avoid hoarding. He urged farmers to report irregularities at centres to the quality control inspector. Farmers can also contact the superintendent agricultural cfficer directly at mobile number 9420971630 or the control room at 0712-2560786. For the ongoing Kharif season, Nagpur district was allocated 42,544 metric tonnes of urea up to August 31. As of Sunday, 48,896 metric tonnes—114% of the allocation—have been supplied. Of this, 36,986 metric tonnes were sold via PoS machines, while 11,910 metric tonnes remain in stock. However, discrepancies were found between PoS records and the actual stock at some centres, prompting a special verification drive. To ensure the timely availability of quality fertilisers and to curb malpractice, the district agriculture department has activated its quality control teams. Special inspection drives have been launched, with flying squads comprising agricultural development officers, district quality control officers, and taluka inspectors actively monitoring fertiliser sales and stock. The Zilla Parishad Agriculture Department has also launched a blog to provide farmers with real-time updates on fertiliser availability across all licensed centres in the district. Hypertension no bar: Insurance agency asked to pay 2L claim

Ghaziabad: Ruling that medical claims cannot be rejected on the grounds that a person has hypertension, the district consumer disputes redressal commission (DCDRC) has directed an insurance firm to pay Rs 2.1 lakh to a Ghaziabad man whose request was denied. DCDRC president Praveen Kumar Jain and members RP Singh and Shailja Sachan also ordered the insurer – Religare Health Insurance Company – to pay Kapil Anand Rs 5,000 as compensation for litigation costs and denial of the claim filed in 2019. The payment must be made within 45 days, and failure to comply will attract 6% simple interest on the outstanding amount. In a plea filed with the consumer commission, Anand said he'd bought the Rs 5-lakh policy from Religare after paying a premium of Rs 17,150 on March 3, 2019. "… doctors diagnosed me with a blockage in the heart and I underwent the medical procedure of stenting in the heart," he said. The third-party administrator, he said, refused to pay his hospital bill of Rs 2,16,482 lakh, forcing him to pay it on his own. Religare's counsel argued before the commission that Anand did not disclose his history of hypertension at the time of buying the policy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She Was Everyone's Dream Girl In 90's, This Is Her Now The Latest Article Undo "The discharge slip, consultation papers, and past history of the patient mentioned that he suffered from hypertension for the last two years and he did not disclose this at the time of purchasing the policy," the counsel said, adding that any condition linked to hypertension cannot be honoured for a claim. The commission in its July 26 order cited two previous judgments by NCDRC-New Delhi to rule in favour of Anand. In the 2013 Ravindra Bindra vs National Insurance Company case, the Delhi commission had ruled that hypertension history could not be grounds for rejecting heart treatment claims, it said. In another 2013 case (Satish Chandra Madan vs Bajaj Alliance), NCDRC rejected the argument that hypertension was a chronic disease. "In the case Satish Chandra Madan Vs Bajal Alliance General Insurance Company, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission held that the petitioner was a patient of hypertension before securing the insurance policy. Hypertension is a common ailment that can be treated through medicines and it is not necessary that hypertension was linked to heart attack. Hypertension is a lifestyle disease and by rejecting the claim, insurance company is guilty of deficiency in service," the Ghaziabad commission said in its order. Bengaluru suburban rail project hits dead end as L&T walks out

Bengaluru: With just three months left on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 40-month promise regarding the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project, the city's long-awaited transport lifeline has come to a grinding halt. The reason: a major contractual fallout between Rail Infrastructure Development Company-Karnataka (K-Ride), the implementing agency, and construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T). L&T, which was awarded two key corridors — Benniganahalli-Chikkabanavara (Corridor-2) and Heelalige-Rajanukunte (Corridor-4) — has abruptly terminated its contracts, accusing K-Ride of failing to provide the land and work fronts necessary to proceed. You Can Also Check: Bengaluru AQI | Weather in Bengaluru | Bank Holidays in Bengaluru | Public Holidays in Bengaluru It has moved the courts to restrain K-Ride from invoking the bank guarantee deposited. L&T has also demanded Rs 505 crore in dues for completed work and losses arising from what it called "employer breaches". K-Ride, in turn, has called the termination "unilateral" and "illegal", alleging it reflected L&T's lack of commitment to the project. The 148km suburban rail network, billed as a mass mobility solution for Bengaluru's commuters, was flagged off with much fanfare in June 2022. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Featuring Brigade Ebony™ at Brigade Showcase 2025 | Aug 8–10, Sheraton Grand, Brigade Gateway Brigade Group Learn More Undo But 37 months on, only about 22% of the scope has been completed, even though 96% of the scheduled time has passed, according to L&T. The firm claimed that K-Ride failed to hand over both govt and private land, clear encroachments on railway land, and shift utilities blocking the alignment. As a result, expensive machinery and manpower remained idle for months. In a statement, K-Ride countered that the agreements had been extended — on L&T's request — to Sept 2026 for Corridor-2 and Oct 2026 for Corridor-4. It maintained that the contracts don't grant L&T the right to terminate them, and called the walkout a clear violation of contractual terms. K-Ride also claimed it had made available 84% of the alignment in Corridor-2 and 17km in Corridor-4. Yet, the agency said, progress on the ground was hampered by L&T's failure to mobilise resources and delays in finalising designs. Senior K-Ride officials met infrastructure development minister MB Patil over the weekend to discuss the way forward. The agency said it is now working on alternatives to complete the remaining work and minimise further delays. The fallout raises fresh doubts over the delivery of a project that has already seen over two decades of delays.
