OPEN// Egypt, China reaffirm importance of upholding Israel-Iran ceasefire
This came during a meeting between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Thursday, in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Egyptian and Chinese ministers and senior officials.
During the meeting, both sides underscored the necessity of reaching a ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip, ensuring immediate humanitarian aid delivery, and achieving a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.
The Chinese Premier conveyed the greetings of President Xi Jinping to President Sisi, adding that the Egyptian president is a dear friend of China who is always warmly welcomed in Beijing, according to Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el Shennawy.
Li said that China highly values strong relations with Egypt that are built on a time-honored strategic partnership, mutual respect and shared interests.
The Chinses premier praised the rapid development in bilateral ties and the close coordination between Egypt and China on regional and international issues.
He also lauded Egypt's pivotal role as a pillar of stability in the Middle East.
For his part, President Sisi affirmed Egypt's commitment to strengthening cooperation with China across various areas of mutual interest, the spokesman said.
He added that both countries will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2026.
The president commended the contributions of Chinese companies to Egypt's development projects, expressing Egypt's eagerness to attract further Chinese investments, especially in sectors of renewable energy, electric vehicle manufacturing and tourism.
He underscored Egypt's interest in promoting cooperation with China in manufacturing, development and debt swap mechanisms, according to the spokesman.
He added that the both sides exchanged views on regional and international developments. (MENA)

Nine Chinese, Turkish firms invest $41.6m in Ismailia Free Zone, creating 16,000 jobs
The Ismailia Free Zone has secured new investments from nine Chinese and Turkish companies, with a combined value of $41.6m. The projects cover textiles, ready-made garments, protective and sportswear, and the manufacture of spare parts for heating and plumbing equipment. Together, they are expected to generate approximately 16,000 direct jobs. Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), said the inflow of new investments reflects the success of the Egyptian government's efforts to create a competitive, investor-friendly environment that fosters manufacturing opportunities and provides employment for thousands of workers. He noted that the new textile and garment projects will export 100% of their output, in line with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade's 'Investment for Export' strategy. Production at the new factories is scheduled to begin in 2026. Ayman Saleh, Head of the General Free Zone in Ismailia, reported that in 2024 the zone completed infrastructure development on 60 feddans designated for industrial use and allocated to investors. He added that work is under way to develop an additional 70 feddans in 2025 to meet strong demand for industrial investment in Egypt, particularly in the Suez Canal region. Representatives of the Chinese and Turkish companies praised the streamlined investment procedures and favourable climate offered by GAFI. They also announced plans to relocate substantial portions of their production operations to Egypt, supporting GAFI's strategy to position the country as a leading hub for export and re-export in the Middle East. The investors highlighted Egypt's strategic advantage in having preferential access to most major global markets through its extensive network of trade agreements.

Madinet Masr, one of Egypt's leading urban community developers, has announced the launch of its latest flagship project, Talala, in New Heliopolis City, with total investments of EGP 90bn. The project is projected to generate estimated sales of EGP 202bn, underscoring the company's commitment to supporting and developing the Egyptian economy through the creation of sustainable, integrated communities with high added value. Strategically located in the heart of New Heliopolis City, Talala spans two adjacent land plots with a combined area of 491.41 feddans (2,064,065.16 sqm). Gaza under fire, famine: Death toll climbs amid warnings of ‘never-ending war'
The death toll in Gaza continues to rise amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes and an escalating humanitarian crisis. The Gaza Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday that 138 Palestinians were killed and 771 injured in the past 24 hours, bringing the total since the resumption of fighting to 9,654 dead and 39,401 injured. Since the conflict began on 7 October 2023, 61,158 people have been killed and more than 151,000 wounded, according to the ministry. Among the latest victims were 87 people killed and 570 injured while attempting to collect humanitarian aid, raising the toll in so-called 'bread massacre' incidents to 1,655 dead and over 11,800 injured. The Gaza Government Media Office said 84 aid trucks entered the strip on Tuesday, most of which were looted or seized amid widespread insecurity. It accused Israel of pursuing 'engineered chaos and starvation' to undermine Palestinian social cohesion and resilience. The office stressed that at least 600 trucks a day are needed to meet the basic needs of Gaza's 2.4 million residents, yet only 853 trucks—14% of the required amount—have entered in the past 10 days. The health ministry also reported five more deaths from starvation and malnutrition, bringing the famine-related death toll to 193, nearly half of them children. On the ground, Palestinian factions continued attacks on Israeli forces. Hamas's military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, said it struck an Israeli D9 bulldozer with a tandem warhead east of Gaza City. Islamic Jihad's Al-Quds Brigades reported joint shelling of Israeli positions near Khan Younis and the destruction of a tank with a barrel bomb in central Khan Younis. Humanitarian aid airdrops have also drawn criticism. Gaza's Ministry of Interior said falling supply boxes have injured or killed civilians due to crowding or direct impacts on tents and homes, citing a recent incident in northern Gaza. It added that the airdropped aid is negligible compared with needs and urged the reopening of land crossings for sustained large-scale deliveries. International warnings are mounting. French Ambassador to Israel Frédéric Journès told Israel's public broadcaster that an Israeli occupation of Gaza would amount to a 'never-ending war,' urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government to pursue a political solution and work with Arab partners on a post-war plan. South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola called for 'the broadest possible international pressure' on Israel to stop what he described as acts of genocide. Speaking to Agence France-Presse, Lamola said South Africa had warned in its International Court of Justice submission that Israel's actions would lead to famine and the systematic erasure of Gaza's population. He welcomed recent recognition of a Palestinian state by France, Canada, and others, saying it would increase pressure for a ceasefire. Germany also voiced deep concern over the worsening crisis, calling for a full ceasefire and rejecting any unilateral annexation of the West Bank. Berlin reiterated its support for a two-state solution and the Palestinians' right to statehood.
