Former Broncos RB Melvin Gordon Discusses NFL Return

Just under one-and-a-half years have passed since former Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon last saw action in an NFL game.

Gordon, playing for the Baltimore Ravens at the time, appeared in four regular-season contests late in the 2023 season, totaling 81 yards on 26 carries and scoring one touchdown.
But since then, Gordon has not received much interest from NFL teams, keeping him off the gridiron for the past 17 months.
In an interview with NFL media personality Kay Adams on the "Up & Adams" show, Gordon expressed pessimism about a potential comeback materializing.
"I went the whole year last year without playing and, just being out a whole year, it's not easy to just go back in there, you know what I mean? You've been doing something for 20 years, and then to take a year off, that's a long time. So, it's just kind of up in the air with everything," Gordon told Adams. "Right now, I'm just kind of comfortable golfing and kind of spending extra time with the family and friends."

Gordon added that playing running back, a position not well-known for longevity, also puts him at a disadvantage when it comes to mounting a comeback.

"I understand my position. As a running back, being out a year and being 32, it's just not that easy," Gordon told Adams. "They like younger backs – they're cheaper, they come in – so, you can't really fight that. It's not a position like a receiver where you can come in and kind of steal some years. Our position kind of don't work like that."
Gordon first rose to prominence in the collegiate ranks, where he had one of the best individual seasons in recent memory as a senior at Wisconsin. He ran the ball 343 times, scoring 29 touchdowns and gaining 2,587 yards, finishing 41 yards shy of Barry Sanders' all-time NCAA FBS single-season rushing record. Gordon, unsurprisingly, went on to win the Doak Walker Award, which is given annually to the top running back in college football.
The Los Angeles Chargers (based in San Diego at the time) took Gordon with the No. 15 overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, and he went on to a fruitful nine-year career in the league. He made two AFC Pro Bowl rosters and won a championship ring with the Kansas City Chiefs during Super Bowl LVII, even though he had never been added to the team's active roster.
In his time with the Chargers, Broncos, and Ravens, Gordon logged 1,593 carries for 6,543 rushing yards and 56 touchdowns.

Chargers' Cameron Dicker says coach Jim Harbaugh 'loves you like your own parents'
Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh is entering his second season coaching the team, and he has already made a strong impression on his players. Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker raved about Harbaugh's ability to connect with players and his authenticity. "It's fun. It's funny he loves you like your own parents love you. So, he is extremely genuine, which is really fun for all of us. But, man, you never know what you are going to get," Dicker told Fox News Digital Wednesday night. "He has some funny things he says in meetings, same thing (he does) with the media. So, what you see is the way he is with us. It is great." Last season, the Chargers went 11-6 and made the playoffs in Harbaugh's first season. They lost 32-12 in the AFC wild-card round to the Houston Texans. Dicker said the Chargers need "to have fun together" to get over the hump. The 25-year-old kicker said his coach does just that. "I think it is getting together again. Bringing the team together (and) allowing us to have fun together. I think that is what Jim Harbaugh does. We saw that year one with him," Dicker said. "He unites a team. Everyone has fun around him. He's a funny weird dude. He's awesome, a very genuine guy, which is incredible. Also brings out the genuine person you are. And he tries to attack every day like that. He is awesome." Last season, Dicker made 33 of 36 extra point attempts and 39 of 42 field goal attempts. Dicker normally does most of the kicking in his home stadium, SoFi Stadium, but that is about to change. SoFi Stadium is one of the 16 host stadiums for next year's World Cup, and Dicker is excited about it. "The atmosphere, it is going to be incredible. I think it adds another level when you bring in international fans, when you bring in (people) who are just repping their countries. It is going to be … so exciting. I am pumped," Dicker said. Florida State Lands Commitment from Four-Star Wide Receiver
Florida State Lands Commitment from Four-Star Wide Receiver originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Mike Norvell's Seminoles notched a big recruit today, earning a commitment from four-star wide receiver Brandon Bennett, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Recruits. Bennett had 25 offers and had visited Georgia before ultimately choosing to play in Tallahassee. Advertisement Bennett is ranked as the 33rd wide receiver in the Class of 2026, and the 218th recruit overall. This is the third wide receiver commitment for Florida State's 2026 recruiting class, as Bennett joins fellow Florida high school products Darryon Williams and Efrem White. Bennett is staying in-state for college, as the six-foot-tall receiver played his high school ball at American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. A two-sport athlete, Bennett is a star on the track in addition to the gridiron. A three-time state qualifier for the 100-meter dash and a two-time qualifier for the 200-meter, Bennett looks to be a speedy addition to Florida State's roster. "Decorated track athlete that can challenge defenses vertically with his speed and acceleration." said 247 Sports Analyst Andrew Irvins. Campbell Myers-Imagn Images In his 2024 season at American Heritage, Bennett helped lead the school to a Florida 4A state championship. He totaled 24 catches for 509 yards and seven touchdowns for the season. Bennett also added a kickoff return touchdown in American Heritage's state championship game. Advertisement Bennett joins a 2026 recruiting class for Florida State that ranks 35th nationally and 11th in the ACC currently, according to 247 Sports. His commitment earns Florida State its second four-star for 2026 and its highest-ranking recruit for the class.
