WWE drops new CM Punk ‘Punk Life' merchandise after John Cena parody on SmackDown
While opinions on the segment are mixed, WWE wasted no time turning the moment into merchandise.

After SmackDown, WWE Shop launched two new CM Punk shirts in a collection called 'Punk Life,' a nod to Cena's 'Thug Life' slogan from the mid-2000s. One shirt features the phrase in the style of the original WrestleMania logo, while the other highlights a large, boxy 'P' reminiscent of WWE's 1980s logo. Each pays tribute to Cena's early rap gimmick when he wore throwback gear as part of his presentation.
CM Punk's 'Punk Life' collection is now available at WWE's online store.
One week after mocking Punk by recreating his infamous 2011 Pipe Bomb promo, Cena addressed fans during SmackDown in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He called Punk a loser and said the result of their match at Night of Champions was a formality, adding that there was nothing Punk could do about it.
Moments after Cena's speech, his old 'Basic Thuganomics' entrance theme hit. The screen flashed 'Punk Life' as Punk emerged wearing an old-school Chicago Cubs jersey, a Chicago Bulls cap, a padlock chain, and rings reading 'Drug Free' — a full throwback to Cena's original gimmick, reimagined with Punk's straight-edge twist.

'Don't adjust your television set; your eyes are working just right. This clown plagiarized my Pipe Bomb, so now I'm stealing Word Life,' Punk declared.
Punk tore into Cena's past, mocking everything from his failed relationship with WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella to his bald spot and the 'you can't wrestle' chants that have followed him for years. He likened Cena to Hulk Hogan, 'but somehow more problematic,' before delivering his final punchline:
'Before you go, John, there's one more wish to make: tomorrow night, you're gonna lose to Kendrick 'cause, bitch, you're my Drake.'
Punk dropped the mic and celebrated with the crowd, a sharp contrast to earlier in the day when he was booed at the Night of Champions Kickoff show. There, he apologized for a profane message he made in 2020 about The Miz and Saudi Arabia's political regime.

Fan-Favorite WWE Superstar Suffers Unfortunate Injury
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella has revealed she suffered a painful breast implant injury during her match on this past Monday's episode of Raw. On her podcast, she detailed the incident and her determination to finish the match despite being in significant pain. The injury occurred during a massive eight-woman tag team match on the July 28th edition of Raw. This was the final Raw before this weekend's SummerSlam premium live event. "My Implant Is Stuck In My Ribs" Speaking on The Nikki & Brie Show, Nikki Bella explained that the injury happened when she took an elbow drop from Piper Niven. She immediately knew something was wrong. "Anyone see that heat spot Monday night? Piper's elbow drop? Yeah... put the implants right into the ribs," Nikki said. "It's been hard to laugh and cough, but it's okay, we're gonna get it fixed one day." Despite the pain, she continued on with the bout. "I was in pain but I didn't want the match to end," she recalled. "I think my implant is stuck in my ribs." She has since sought medical attention, confirming the implant has moved. PHILIPPE HUGUEN/AFP/Getty Images A History Of Toughness Nikki Bella's decision to finish the match is another example of the "Fearless" persona that has defined her career. Her initial retirement from wrestling was forced by a career-threatening neck injury in 2015 that required major surgery. Doctors told her she may never compete again. She defied the odds and made a miraculous, albeit part-time, comeback. Her resilience in the face of that severe neck injury became a central part of her story and cemented her reputation as one of the toughest competitors in the women's division. More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match A Trailblazer's Legacy As one-half of The Bella Twins, Nikki Bella is a trailblazer and a key figure in the "Divas Era." She is a two-time Divas Champion, and her second reign of 301 days was the longest in the title's history. Alongside her sister, Brie, she became a massive mainstream star through the hit reality shows Total Divas and Total Bellas. Her incredible career was recognized with an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2020. She made her most recent surprise return to the company at the 2025 Royal Rumble. While this latest injury is an unfortunate setback, it is another chapter in the career of a true fighter. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

WWE Superstar Is Upset With SummerSlam Booking Decision
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. On the eve of SummerSlam, the inaugural WWE Women's United States Champion, Chelsea Green, has spoken out about the title being absent from the massive two-night event. In a new interview, she expressed her frustration that the championship she helped establish has "taken a step back." The current Women's United States Champion, Giulia, is not scheduled to defend her title at SummerSlam this weekend. Green, speaking on The Ringer Wrestling Show, shared her thoughts on the situation. The Inaugural Champion's Frustration Chelsea Green was candid about her disappointment in seeing the new championship left off of WWE's biggest party of the summer. She feels that the title's prestige has diminished since her reign. "It definitely makes me upset. I feel like I really put in work with that title," Green said. "I feel like I laid the groundwork for this title to mean something and unfortunately we've taken a step back from that." She did acknowledge the difficulty of getting on a stacked card, but felt that a place should always be found for a champion. "Am I making excuses, yes," she admitted. "Because you can always fit something on TV." NEW YORK, NY - AUGUST 23: Crowds cheer at the WWE SummerSlam 2015 at Barclays Center of Brooklyn on August 23, 2015 in New York City. NEW YORK, NY - AUGUST 23: Crowds cheer at the WWE SummerSlam 2015 at Barclays Center of Brooklyn on August 23, 2015 in New York City. A Perfect Character Moment The comments are a perfect blend of legitimate critique and the on-screen "Karen"-like persona that has made Chelsea Green a fan favorite. Her character is built on complaining to management and believing that she is the center of the WWE Universe. Her passionate, yet self-serving, defense of the title she was the first to hold is a masterful example of her blurring the lines. Green's inaugural reign as champion began in late 2024. She held the title for four months before losing it to Zelina Vega in April of this year. More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match A Champion's Pedigree Green also had high praise for the current champion, Giulia, a world-renowned star who made her name in Japan's Stardom promotion before signing with WWE. "She's such an amazing wrestler, she's insane," Green said. "I do feel like we could do more with it." Giulia defeated Zelina Vega for the championship in June, but has yet to be featured in a major storyline on SmackDown. The decision to leave a champion of her caliber off of a major show like SummerSlam is a surprising one, and it validates the concerns voiced by Green. With a stacked, two-night, 11-match card, the new Women's U.S. Title was simply the odd one out. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

6 Exciting New Netflix Movies In August 2025
Having a Netflix subscription is great for two particular reasons: one, they sport great relationships with undervalued stars of the industry (this month features collaborations with Vanessa Kirby, Adam Devine and Chris Columbus); and two, they champion practically-forgotten movies that were dismissed by critics but adored by cult audiences. And August 2025 is no difference, with some highly anticipated movies coming our way—including a brand new romance starring Netflix's biggest homegrown star, Sofia Carson; a box office bomb starring John Cena that's looking for a second life; and a murder-mystery whodunnit fronted by British thespian royalty. All in all, this month's lineup seems to have a little bit of something for every kind of movie lover. So what can you expect this month? What are the most exciting movies coming to Netflix? Let's dive in. Below, I've detailed six different movies you cannot miss in August, outfitted with plot details, trailers, release dates and reasons you should watch them. Then at the bottom of the article, you can find a full list of every single film hitting Netflix in August 2025. I hope you find your next movie night movie in this bunch. Happy watching! 10 Great New Movies On Netflix In August 2025 Another month, another Netflix flick starring Sofia Carson. This time, it's the romantic drama My Oxford Year, which tells the tale of Anna De La Vega (Carson), a driven young woman from Queens who attends Oxford University for a prestigious one-year poetry program before returning to the Big Apple to begin her career at Goldman Sachs. But her carefully planned-out life derails when she meets Jamie Davenport (Corey Mylchreest), a charming local with a passion for literature who whisks Anna into a complicated romance, made only more poignant once Anna learns Jamie is terminally ill and has chosen to forgo treatment. An almost trashed project (inspired by the novel of the same name by Julia Whelan) that was later optioned and revived by Netflix, this tender story from BAFTA-nominated director Iain Morris (who brought a unique comic sensibility to British television when he created the coming-of-age sitcom The Inbetweeners) seems to be the kind of romance that's for fans of movies that deliver a similar blend of romance and emotional upheaval, like Me Before You and One Day. My Oxford Year became available to stream on Netflix starting Aug. 1, 2025. It's not easy to recommend a box office bomb that was trashed by critics. But when we take a deeper dive into the details behind the now-practically forgotten action comedy Freelance, we see that this movie might just find the audience it desperate desired with more exposure on Netflix. The film follows Mason Pettits (John Cena), a restless and emotionally scarred lawyer who quit his job as a U.S. Army Special Forces operative after a failed mission. But he comes back into fold to protect journalist Claire Wellington (Alison Brie) on her trip to interview the dictator Juan Venegas (Juan Pablo Raba) of the fictional country Paldonia. What begins a standard security detail becomes violent when a coup erupts mid-interview, forcing Mason to guide Claire and Venegas out of the jungle, all the while facing Colonel Jan Koehorst (Marton Csokas) and his mercenaries. With a budget of $40 million, Freelance only grossed $10.2 million at the worldwide box office, largely thanks to the movie's abysmal 10% showing on Rotten Tomatoes. But the audience score hovered around 70%, with many viewers who enjoy light, escapist action-comedies reminiscent of '90s blockbusters claiming the movie hits all the right spots. Freelance will be available to watch on Netflix starting Aug. 2, 2025. Netflix sure hasn't been shy about bolstering its animated lineup. But outside of the Big Mouth series, most of the streaming giant's animated offerings have been kid-focused—which is what makes Fixed such an adult-focused departure. This raunchy, R-rated comedy follows a cocky, quick-witted bloodhound named Bull (voiced by Adam Devine) who finds out he's going to be neutered the next day. Faced with this existential crisis, Bull gathers his best pals—Rocco, a gruff boxer (Idris Elba); Lucky, a dopey but loyal beagle (Bobby Moynihan); and Fetch, a wannabe influencer dachshund (Fred Armisen)—for one final night of canine mischief. And before the night is over, he wishes to confess his love to Honey (Kathryn Hahn), the glamorous show dog next door. This project from director Genndy Tartakovsky (the Emmy-winning creator of Samurai Jack, Dexter's Laboratory and Primal who cites Young Frankenstein, Anchorman, and Dumb and Dumber as inspirations) was dead-but-revivied after Netflix acquired it at the Annecy Animation Film Festival. Fans of movies like Strays and Sausage Party would be smart to check out this foul-mouthed flick. Fixed will be available to stream on Netflix starting Aug. 13, 2025. Here we have another case where Netflix isn't deterred by a low critical score. Despite just achieving 45% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience gave Kandahar an 82% approval rating—a trend I've noticed in Netflix's offerings later, with the streaming service banking more on public opinions than critical ones. This addition to the Gerard Butler action movie canon stars the B-movie champion as Tom Harris, a veteran CIA black-ops agent who successfully sabotages an Iranian nuclear facility. But after his identity is unfortunately exposed, Tom escapes, only to be drawn into a covert mission in Afghanistan. After that operation is compromised, he and his Afghan-American interpreter Mohammad "Mo" Doud (Navid Negahban) are chased by Iranian Revolutionary Guards led by the ruthless Colonel Farzad Asadi (Bahador Foladi) and Pakistani ISI agent Kahil Nasir (Ali Fazal) as they race their way toward Kandahar to be rescued. Directed by Ric Roman Waugh (who gave us other Butler vehicles like Angel Has Fallen and Greenland), this spy action thriller is loosely based upon screenwriter Mitchell LaFortune's real-life experience as a U.S. intelligence officer in Afghanistan. Kandahar will be available to stream on Netflix starting Aug. 9, 2025. When Vanessa Kirby and Netflix come together, awards usually follow suit. The last time Kirby fronted a Netflix feature, Pieces of a Woman, it earned her an Academy Award nomination (she won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress), and The Crown landed her a BAFTA win for Best Supporting Actress. We'll see if the trend continues with Night Always Comes, a crime thriller that follows Lynette (Kirby) during a night in Portland. Lynette, desperate to secure a future for her developmentally disabled brother (Zack Gottsagen), aims to raise money so she can buy her family's home before it's bought from underneath them. After her mother backs out of a financial agreement, Lynette plunges into a tense, noir-tinged odyssey through the city's seediest corners, encountering drug dealers, ex-lovers and buried trauma all the while. With a cast outfitted by the likes of Jennifer Jason Leigh, Stephan James, Julia Fox, Eli Roth, Randall Park and Michael Kelly, this atmospheric thriller from director Benjamin Caron (who worked closely with Kirby to shape Lynette as a fiercely human, unpredictable lead character) appears to have Safdie brother energy (think Good Time and Uncut Gems). Night Always Comes will be available to stream on Netflix starting Aug. 15, 2025. The Thursday Murder Club has two genres I love meeting at a crossroads: murder-mystery whodunnits where detectives must solve a murder before time is up, and ensemble pieces starring veteran actors who know how to navigate such juicy material. This particular gem has quite the cast, with Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley, Pierce Brosnan and Celia Imrie making up the main four detectives: Elizabeth, a former spy; Ibrahim, a retired psychiatrist; Ron, a once-feared labor activist; and Joyce, a kind but underestimated former nurse. These four meet weekly to solve cold cases over tea—but when a real murder rocks their community, the group suddenly finds itself in the middle of a deadly mystery that directly affects their lives. The cast, made up of characters ranging from hard-nosed detectives to concerned relatives to slippery suspects, features several great overseas actors, including Naomi Ackie, David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Daniel Mays, Richard E. Grant and Tom Ellis. To boot, you can practically guarantee this film will be entertaining as heck given it's directed by Chris Columbus, who gave us the first two Home Alone movies, Mrs. Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potter films. The Thursday Murder Club will be available to stream on Netflix starting Aug. 28, 2025. Every New Movie On Netflix In August 2025
