DOTr: Work on Siargao Airport's expansion to start August 8, 2025
In a Facebook post, the agency said this is upon directives of President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. to enhance travel experience and guarantee the comfort of local and foreign travelers.
In March of this year, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon directed several changes in Siargao Airport.
He ordered modular expansion in the said airport to increase seating capacity and address the heavy crowding, as well as the removal of VIP lounge and redundant x-ray machines to speed up the security check process.

According to Dizon, the agency has a long-term goal of making Siargao Airport an international hub as he also directed the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to accelerate plans for extending the runway and building a new and world-class passenger terminal.
The Siargao Airport is part of the bundled unsolicited proposal for the modernization and expansion of Davao and Bicol Airports submitted by the JG Summit and Filinvest Groups under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) deal, the DOTR said.
Once finished, the expanded and modern Siargao Airport PTB can accommodate thrice its current capacity from 200 passengers to at least 750 passengers on a daily basis. —VAL, GMA Integrated News

Ramon Ang to help solve metro's flooding woes at 'no cost to the gov't'
San Miguel Corporation (SMC) president and CEO Ramon Ang on Friday volunteered to help solve the flooding problems in Metro Manila "at no cost to the government." In a press conference with concerned government officials, Ang vowed to work on flood mitigation projects, including the construction of drainage systems and clearing operations, as well as housing and school-building programs. 'Ako po San Miguel, Ramon Ang, nagvo-volunteer ako ngayon. Ako na ang tutulong sa buong Metro Manila ma-solve ang baha at no cost to the people at no cost to the government,' Ang said. In July, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) called out the MRT Line 7 project contractors and the Skyway management, both under SMC, over issues that allegedly contribute to the flooding in their concerned areas. SMC said its MRT-7 Project Management Office has clarified its facilities near Batasan Station on Commonwealth Avenue 'are not the cause of the flooding.' 'All MRT-7 structures in the area, including columns and footings, were built outside existing drainage lines and do not obstruct the natural flow of water. These were constructed with full consideration of the drainage layout and in compliance with approved engineering plans,' SMC said. 'Concerns that were raised about a manhole constructed along the drainage line have also been reviewed. PH needs to compete with digitalized neighboring countries

''Because that's the only way to do it. You cannot operate in 2025 na kinakamay-kamay mo ang forms, pupunta-punta ka sa opisina, take three days, tatlong araw, kasi akala mo tapos na yung dokumento mo, ah hindi, may kulang pa ito, pumunta ka doon, tapos lalapit na 'yung fixer sa'yo, the whole experience, the whole bad experience,'' Marcos told GMA Integrated News when asked why he has since pushed for using the eGov PH Super app. (You cannot operate in 2025 that you're just using forms, you will go to offices and it will take three days, you'll think your document is finished but it's not. Then a fixer will approach you, the whole experience, the whole bad experience.) ''So that doesn't work anymore. And if we are to compete as a country, as an economy, kailangan natin makipagsabayan (we need to compete). And look at China, how digitalized China is. We have to be at that level. Look at Singapore. Look at Korea. Ito 'yung mga karatig bansa natin (these are our neighboring countries). These are the people we do business with. So to be able to do business with them properly, we need to digitalize,'' Marcos added. Marcos said digitalization is not only for business or for education. ''It's absolutely imperative now that children know how to use a computer, they know how to use the internet, and they know how to do work on the internet,'' Marcos said. To achieve digitalization, Marcos said the public should be informed and educated as well, especially those living in far-flung areas. ''We will have to educate our people but again, 89 million, that's a good majority already of Filipinos who can,'' Marcos said. Marcos wants to increase awareness of the use of eGov PH Super app to provide easier access to national and local government services.
