Marlon Wayans rips Soulja Boy for transphobic remarks against son: ‘He ain't been relevant'

For comedian Marlon Wayans, defending his son from transphobic and homophobic comments is no laughing matter. Unless it involves Soulja Boy.
The 'Scary Movie' and 'White Chicks' star on Wednesday made a punchline of the 'Kiss Me Thru the Phone' rapper's career after the musician dragged Wayans family matters into a social media feud. In a series of tweets this week, Soulja Boy, also known for songs 'Crank That' and 'Pretty Boy Swag,' used slurs to criticize Wayans, his acting career and his trans son, Kai.
Soulja Boy on Wednesday tweeted a screenshot of reports about Wayans' support for Kai. Seemingly referencing the 52-year-old comic disguising himself as a white woman for the 2004 comedy 'White Chicks,' the rapper wrote: 'That ... run in the family huh? @MarlonWayans no wonder u like dressing up as a b— it's in your blood.' The rapper has since deleted the offensive tweets — but not quickly enough to save himself from a Wayans clapback.
'If @souljaboy had a career he could get cancelled for this type of slander,' the 'Marlon' star tweeted Wednesday. 'Luckily he ain't been relevant since 2007.'
That was the year Soulja Boy, real name DeAndre Cortez Way, broke out with his catchy hit 'Crank That (Soulja Boy)' and its accompanying dance. He continued to gain traction in the early aughts with songs 'Donk,' 'Kiss Me Thru The Phone' and 'Pretty Boy Swag.' Though his popularity has tapered off in the past decade, the 34-year-old continues to drop new music including his latest album, 'The Influence,' released last Friday.
Although it's unclear how or when the Wayans-Soulja Boy feud began, Billboard reported the beef traces back to the rapper's decision to perform in January at the Crypto Ball in Washington, D.C., to celebrate President Trump's inauguration. Like fellow rappers Snoop Dogg and Nelly, who also performed at Trump inauguration events, Soulja Boy defended his performance, saying on Instagram that 'Trump put money in my pockets.' He also noted that the president was not at the event.
Days after the inauguration, Wayans appeared on Cincinnati radio station 101.1 The Wiz, where he called for unity during the new administration and shared his two cents about the rappers who performed at the Trump celebrations. 'I mean, Soulja Boy, he been canceled. Nobody cares [about] Soulja Boy. Soulja Boy go better get that check,' Wayans said.
He added: 'I don't know if they knew it was [an] underwritten Trump event.'
Soulja Boy hit back at the comedian on Monday, weeks after Wayans' radio spot, tweeting 'u not funny' and he 'keep selling ur soul' amid a burst of profanity. A back-and-forth ensued with each of the performers taking jabs at the other's careers and appearances.
Wayans, currently on his Wild Child comedy tour, revealed his son's transition during a November 2023 interview with 'The Breakfast Club.' At the time, he spoke about 'going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance' and praised Kai as 'brilliant' and the 'most well-read, the smartest Wayans.' He shares children Kai and Shawn with ex-girlfriend Angela Zackery.
Last June, Wayans hit back against a slew of haters who decried his rainbow-adorned Instagram photos celebrating Pride. 'As a father of a child in the LGBTQ+ community I show my support. Zero f— what people think. If i lost you… GOOD!,' he wrote in a caption.
Wayans will reunite with brothers Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans for a new chapter of their 'Scary Movie' franchise, set to hit theaters next summer. Additionally, the Wayans family will get their flowers at the 56th NAACP Image Awards later this month. The 'In Living Color' and 'My Wife and Kids' comedy dynasty will be inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame when the ceremony airs Feb. 22 on BET.

Queer Jams of the Week: New Music From Chappell Roan, Reneé Rapp, Demi Lovato & More

In need of some new tunes from your favorite queer artists? We've got you covered. Billboard Pride is proud to present the latest edition of Queer Jams of the Week, our roundup of some of the best new music releases from LGBTQ+ artists. From Chappell Roan's long-awaited new(ish) ballad to Reneé Rapp's rowdy new album, check out just a few of our favorite releases from this week below: More from Billboard Best Festival Gear: What to Buy for Lollapalooza & Other Concerts This Summer WWE SummerSlam 2025: How to Watch the Two-Night Pro Wrestling Event Live Online Wrangler Goes All-Terrain With Latest Apparel Collection Backed by Country Star Tucker Wetmore Chappell Roan, 'The Subway' After more than a year of patience from fans, Chappell Roan is finally ready to offer them a ride on 'The Subway.' The plaintive ballad paints a vivid picture of Roan mid-heartbreak, as she recounts the mundane tale of seeing an ex on the train and going into a full-blown spiral of Big Feelings™. It's easy to see why fans have wanted a full studio version of the song — the dreamy guitars end up pairing perfectly with Roan's ethereal vocal, as she pines for the day her former flame becomes 'just another girl on the subway.' Reneé Rapp, Bite Me Reneé Rapp is ready for a switch-up. Where her excellent 2023 album Snow Angel saw the singer getting vulnerable about the hard realities surrounding her, Bite Me, her raucous new album, sees her disengaging from the hardships and opting to have fun instead. Over pop, rock, and R&B-tinged tracks, Rapp revels in sex ('Kiss It, Kiss It'), parties ('Good Girl'), and petty breakups ('That's So Funny'), all while giving some of her best vocal performances to date. The pathos and angst from Snow Angel is still present throughout, but as Rapp herself sings in the back half of the album: 'If I can't be happy, then at least I'm hot.' Demi Lovato, 'Fast' Everyone, please welcome back Demi Lovato, Pop Star. After zigging and zagging into adult contemporary and hard rock on her last few albums, the singer steps firmly back into the pop space with 'Fast,' their new dance-fueled banger. Plinking synths litter the background of the new track, alongside a beat that slowly ratchets up until bursting into an electric symphony on the chorus. But as usual, the standout on 'Fast' is Lovato's inimitable voice, as she flexes the power and versatility of her own instrument throughout this delirious new single. Slayyyter, 'Beat Up Chanel$' If Lovato's new song hasn't quite slaked your need for a high-octane new club track, then Slayyyter's should get the job done. Over a crunchy industrial beat, Slayyyter works her way through a nightlife scene packed with 'sex, money, drugs, chains on my chest, vintage Celine' and just about everything else you can hope to encounter. But she's not interested in the opulence of the scene, as suggested in both the lyrics and grimy production — Slayyyter's on a mission to find the filthy underbelly of the club. And with a track like 'Beat Up Chanel$,' she's sure to find it. Debby Friday, The Starrr of the Queen of Life After spending much of her career sowing chaos into dance tracks, Debby Friday is having an introspective moment. The Starrr of the Queen of Life finds the underground dance star still firmly situated in the club, but this time she's ready to tackle some more existential questions about her personal life ('Alberta') and about life itself ('Arcadia'), all while still providing some of her most fascinating production to date. Adam Lambert, 'Heaven on Their Minds' (Jesus Christ Superstar cover) Leave it to Adam Lambert to make a 55-year-old rock opera song sound new and vital again. Ahead of his performance this weekend in the Hollywood Bowl production of Jesus Christ Superstar alongside Cynthia Erivo, Lambert shared his rendition of the show's opening number 'Heaven on Their Minds,' letting his stratospheric voice go as far as it can. You can also hear his acting in the role of Judas throughout, as the performer brings a sense of desperation and panic to this rollicking new rendition. Zach Bryan's New Single Launches Inside The Top 10 On Multiple Charts

Zach Bryan has released more than half a dozen singles in 2025 alone, and it's not yet clear how many of them will be included on his upcoming project. What is apparent is that his latest single, "Madeline,' a duet with relatively unknown musician Gabriella Rose, is another quick smash for the singer-songwriter, one that returns him to the highest tiers on several Billboard rankings. 'Madeline' Opens Inside the Top 10 "Madeline" launches on more than half a dozen tallies in the United States this week. The tune opens inside the top 10 on three of them, thanks primarily to its quick popularity on streaming platforms. Bryan's duet with Rose opens highest, at No. 8, on the Hot Rock Songs chart. It comes in just one spot beneath that slot on the Rock Streaming Songs list, and at No. 10 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally. A Milestone New Smash Bryan earns his milestone thirtieth top 10 hit on the Hot Rock Songs chart as "Madeline" debuts. He only needs one more win within the same region on the Rock Streaming Songs list to reach the same landmark there as well. Meanwhile, the newly-shared collaboration marks his twenty-sixth top 10 smash on Billboard's ranking of the most consumed rock and alternative tracks in the nation. Zach Bryan's Many, Many Rock Hits When looking at his total number of placements on these three lists, there's a greater variation when compared to his top 10 successes. Bryan has now scored 47 hits on the Rock Streaming Songs ranking, while he's up to 80 on the Hot Rock Songs list, and two more on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally. Zach Bryan Almost Reaches the Country Top 10 "Madeline" comes close to the top 10 on a trio of country rankings, but doesn't perform quite as well as it does on the rock-leaning charts. The track misses the highest tier on the Hot Country Songs, Country Streaming Songs, and Country Digital Song Sales lists by just a few spaces. The tune also opens at No. 62 on the Hot 100, where Bryan is quickly approaching 50 placements. With Heaven on Top It appears that "Madeline" will be included on With Heaven on Top, Bryan's forthcoming project. Originally marketed as an EP, it now appears the singer-songwriter and Grammy winner may turn it into a full-length effort. At the moment, With Heaven on Top is scheduled to be released on January 9, 2026.

History Made: The First Hindi-Language Top 10 Smash On Billboard's Global Chart

Every so often, a song breaks through and shatters norms of what can be a 'hit' all around the world. It's happened in the past with different genres and languages, and the internet and streaming platforms have leveled the playing field for all musicians everywhere to reach large audiences. This week, a Hindi-language track, 'Saiyaara,' is on the rise on some of Billboard's most competitive charts, becoming a historic smash – the kind that the world hasn't seen before. Faheem Abdullah Makes His Mark Globally Faheem Abdullah's 'Saiyaara' is rewriting the rulebook when it comes to international commercial success. This week, the soaring ballad debuts at No. 10 on the Billboard Global 200 and catapults to No. 4 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart. That leap — from No. 177 the week prior — isn't just impressive, it's one of the largest of all time. The song is featured in the film Saiyaara, helmed by director Mohit Suri and starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, and the movie has quickly become a blockbuster in India, and it may soon score a worldwide release. A First for India — and for Hindi According to Billboard, 'Saiyaara' is the first Hindi-language track to break into the top 10 on either of the global rankings. It is also the first song by an Indian artist to achieve the feat. Billboard's global charts, which launched in 2020, have become the definitive measure of a song's reach across international markets, regardless of language or genre. Streaming Surge Pushes 'Saiyaara' Skyward According to Luminate, 'Saiyaara' pulled in 98 million streams during the week ending July 24. That figure is up a staggering 321% from the previous frame. That kind of growth is rare for any cut, and for an Indian release, it's almost unheard of. Indian Soundtracks Enter the Global Conversation Indian cinema and music have long gone hand-in-hand, but rarely has that synergy resulted in a worldwide crossover as powerful as 'Saiyaara' has managed. While songs from Bollywood films occasionally pop up on international charts, none have climbed as high as 'Saiyaara.' The Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. rankings have made room in the past few years for Korean, Japanese, and Spanish-language hits, but until now, no Hindi song had broken into the top tier, and the tune could continue to climb in the coming frames.
