NBA 2K25 player spends £24,000 on microtransactions: ‘It's not worth it'

A fan has revealed how much he spent on in-game currency in NBA 2K25, as he warns others about following in his footsteps. Free-to-play games have paved the way for predatory microtransactions in a litany of titles, and while it's easy to blame companies for enabling these practices, sometimes you have to turn the mirror on ordinary players. Microtransactions are often associated with skin cosmetics in titles like Fortnite, but there are plenty in full priced games too – especially sports games like EA Sports FC 25, which still uses what are essentially loot boxes for the Ultimate Team mode. These virtual collectible cards are prevalent in other sports games like NBA 2K25, and for one player they've cost him upwards of $32,000. In a video posted on his channel, YouTuber 2KOG breaks down his transaction history in NBA 2K25 over the past year. Within 11 months from September 4, 2024 to August 5, 2025, he claims to have spent $32,831,68 (£24,384) on the basketball sim. As seen in the video, the bulk of these transactions have gone towards virtual in-game currency for MyTeam cards – NBA 2K's equivalent of Ultimate Team – along with season passes. 2KOG isn't proud of this number though, and clarifies he's in an unusual position where he can afford to spend this amount of money. 'Most of you know I have a normal 9-5 type job, I also own my own business,' he said in the clip. 'And I do make a little bit of money off of doing these YouTube videos, so my situation is probably a lot different to most people who watch and play the game.' Despite his financial position though, 2KOG warned others from investing this amount of money into a game. 'It's absolutely not worth it,' he added. 'Even if I was breaking even [through YouTube videos], that's still a lot of resources that were put into this.' Incredibly, despite spending over £24,000, he still doesn't have all the cards available in NBA 2K25 , due to the amount of duplicates he's pulled from packs. 'I should have pretty much every card in the game, and I don't,' he added. 'And all I can do is sit here and think about how much money I've wasted. This man spent $32,000 on NBA 2K25…. — Troydan (@Troydan) August 8, 2025 'I did create a [YouTube] channel but it paid me a tenth of what I spent. So there's no way anyone can tell me it was worth it.' 2KOG's financial woes have since gone viral on X. At the time of writing, 2KOG's YouTube channel dedicated to NBA 2K25, which he started a year ago, has 3,5000 subscribers. If you need another reason why spending this amount of money on NBA 2K is a waste of time, none of these purchases will carry over to the series' next instalment, NBA 2K26, which is set to come out on September 6, 2025. Instead, they'll all have to be bought again for another £24K+. Submit Stuff page here.

The service has managed to deliver for players on all tiers, with the PS Plus Essential August drop delivering Lies of P and Day Z, and the PS Plus Extra and Premium July drop surprising players with a same-day Cyberpunk 2077 launch, paired with an exclusive discount for its Phantom Liberty DLC. ‌ Fans have had plenty to get stuck into, but luckily for them, there's plenty more to come incredibly soon. This is a regular occurrence as Extra and Premium games are always unveiled at this time on the second Wednesday of every month before they make their debut on the service the following Tuesday, which in this case is Tuesday, August 19. Expectations are high for another stellar line-up of games, but only time will tell if they're up to scratch. Benjamin Sesko names former Man Utd star as his idol: 'He's just amazing'

Benjamin Sesko is ready to begin his Manchester United career and cannot wait to follow in the footsteps of his football idol by playing for the Red Devils. The Slovenian striker has arrived from RB Leipzig this summer in a deal worth £74m as the Red Devils completely revamp their forward line. Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have also been signed from Brentford and Wolves respectively, while Marcus Rashford has departed on loan to Barcelona and United try and get rid of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho. Sesko is expected to lead the line with Mbeumo and Cunha in the roles behind him in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 formation, with Red Devils fans very excited about their new-look attack. The 22-year-old is raring to get going and has given supporters an idea of what to expect by revealing that his role model is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – sign up, it's an open goal. The 6'5″ new signing has long been a fan of the Swede, who scored 29 goals for Manchester United, and loves the way he approached the game. 'He's been my role model since I've been small,' Sesko told MUTV of Ibrahimovic. 'I've been watching him, like every single YouTube video that I can find, because he's just amazing for me, you know. 'We don't have the same, let's say, character. But I like to see him, the way he plays, the way he enjoys football, because that's when all the joy comes, you know. If you enjoy football, then everything works. And I think this is the most important. It's probably also one of the parts that just makes me love him so much, you know what I mean? So maybe one day to meet him, that would be great. He's my idol.' Sesko and Ibrahimovic share imposing physical presences, coupled with incredible athleticism, but says he has tried to learn from very different Manchester United forwards as well. 'Of course, I try to take some stuff from him,' he said. 'Especially like some similarities with the high kicks and power strikes. 'For me, there's [also] Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, all those kind of guys. I've also been watching them, of course, on the videos.' Mbeumo also spoke of his love of a former Manchester United superstar when he signed, although he had a number of big name heroes. 'My first top was Manchester United with Ronaldo behind,' he said. 'My favourite players changed with time. When I was really young, my two best footballers were Lionel Messi and Ronaldo. When I was growing up, Neymar. After that it was Eden Hazard.' Cunha watched Manchester United growing up and picked out players who stood out to him as a youngster. More Trending 'It's always hard to talk because I remember the whole squad from the time I started to watch,' he told MUTV on his arrival at Old Trafford. 'In the front, Rooney, wow! Sometimes I think I have a lot of particulars in my game because I always give everything. 'I remember he was the number 10, everyone loved the skills of the player in this shirt, but he brings always more. He goes to the grass to take the ball, you know like this kind of energy inside of him, he was a big example. 'But of course, I can mention a lot of players. Ronaldo, everyone knows it is easy to talk about him. Ryan Giggs, everyone! I can see the team, Edwin van der Sar in goal, wow! Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in defence, Paul Scholes, wow, Michael Carrick. That team for me had a big impact on my teenage years.'
