Court to hear bid to exhume UTM Palapes cadet's body for second post-mortem on Aug 25
Judge Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gurcharan Singh Preet set the date after the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC), named the respondents in the application, requested time to file the affidavit-in-reply.
The IGP and the AGC were represented by Senior Federal Counsel Nurul Huda Mohd Salehuddin and Selangor Director of Prosecutions, Kalmizah Salleh, respectively.
The two respondents were given until this Friday to file their affidavit-in-reply.
Syamsul Haris, 22, died during training at the Army Combat Training Centre in Ulu Tiram on July 28.
The Johor police had said that a post-mortem found no signs of criminal injury, but the deceased's mother, Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, 45, called for an inquiry after finding 'mysterious bruises' on her son's body.

'My colleagues and I are representing them, and they are not children of VVIPs,' Singh was quoted telling Sinar Harian. Singh had earlier said he had applied for the gag order as the law was clear on protecting the child's interest and their identity. Lawyer for Zara Qairina's family, Hamid Ismail, also denied that the identity of the teenagers cannot be revealed because of their status. 'It is not because of any VVIP or because someone ordered it. No, this is Malaysian law. So do not misunderstand it as some sort of 'higher-ups' game. No,' he stressed. Earlier, five teenage girls were charged at the Children's Court here today with using abusive words against the late Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir last month. Deputy public prosecutor Nor Azizah Mohamad said that the charge against the five minors was for acting with common intention, allegedly uttered abusive words directed at Zara Qairina, which were heard by the victim and could have caused her distress. Sessions Judge Elsie Primus allowed bail of RM5,000 (with RM1,000 to be deposited) against the five minors in closed proceedings and set the pre-trial case management date to September 25 followed by October 16. The trial will be held on December 8 to 12, and December 15 to 19. The offence was allegedly committed at Block A-3-6 of the Rabiatul Adawiyah Dormitory at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Tun Datu Mustapha Limauan W.D.T 15, Papar, between 10pm and 11pm on July 15. The charge was framed under Section 507C(1) of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, which carries a maximum jail term of one year, or a fine, or both upon conviction.

Putrajaya road closures ahead of National Day: 14 routes shut for rehearsals, Core Island sealed off during celebrations
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — A total of 14 main roads in Putrajaya will be closed from 6 am to 12 noon between Aug 26 and 29 for rehearsals ahead of the 68th National Day celebrations. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the affected routes include Lebuh Wawasan/Persiaran Perdana, Jalan Tun Razak/Lebuh Bestari, Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan Pembangunan, Lebuh Setia/Jalan Perpaduan, Jalan Kemerdekaan/Jalan Tun Hussein, and Dataran Putra/Persiaran Perdana. In addition, 14 main access roads to Putrajaya Core Island will be fully closed from 10 pm on Aug 29 to 31. The affected routes include Lingkaran Putrajaya/Jambatan Saujana, Lebuh Sentosa/Lebuh Wawasan, the traffic light at Lebuh Wawasan/Jambatan Wawasan, Bulatan Salahuddin/Dataran Perdana, the traffic light at Jalan Pembangunan/Jalan Tun Hussein, and the traffic light at Lingkaran Gemilang Satu/Persiaran Perdana. KOTA KINABALU, Aug 20 — The lawyers representing the family of schoolgirl Zara Qairina Mahathir are urging more witnesses to come forward ahead of two separate court hearings into her alleged bullying and the inquest into her death. Hamid Ismail said that while he could not disclose details of the closed-door hearing due to Section 15 of the Child Act 2001, the legal team welcomed anyone with relevant information to assist in the ongoing investigation and inquest. 'If there are still witnesses out there, please reach out to us... That's our specific request,' he told reporters outside the courthouse here today after five teenage girls claimed trial to bullying Zara Qairina. 'So far there are people who have reached out to me personally, so that's good,' he said, adding that he will filter their accounts first. Hamid, whose legal team consists of Shahlan Jufri, Rizwandean M. Borhan, Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi, Mohd Syarulnizam Mohd Salleh, and Farrah Nasser, confirmed that several witnesses had already come forward but declined to reveal the number, citing legal restrictions. The Children's Court today prohibited the disclosure of proceedings involving minors, stressing it was to protect the children's best interests. Hamid and his legal team had previously asked for the bullying charges to be delayed against the five teenagers. He called for a review of the charges under Section 507D(2), which carries heavier penalties for serious bullying, warning that proceeding now could trigger double jeopardy if stronger evidence emerges later.
