Dayton native cut by WNBA team after preseason debut

The Indiana Fever announced Monday it waived Wayne High School graduate Bree Hall.
'We have waived guard Bree Hall,' the team said on social media. 'Thank you, Bree.'

As previously reported by News Center 7, Hall was drafted No. 20 overall in the 2025 WNBA draft on April 14.

The move came after Hall scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds while playing 16 minutes in an exhibition game against Brazil's national team at the University of Iowa.
'Thankful for the opportunity. Looking forward to what's next,' she wrote on her Instagram account.
The game was a homecoming for Fever star and former Iowa guard Caitlin Clark.
Hall graduated from Wayne High School in 2021.
She won two national championships at South Carolina.

Coming off her fourth consecutive Sweet 16 appearance, Notre Dame women's head basketball coach Niele Ivey made a tweak to her coaching staff ahead of the 2025-26 season. After two successful years as director of player personnel for the program, Carlos Knox has been promoted to assistant coach ahead of his third season in South Bend. Knox has been praised for helping develop many of ND's student-athletes, including 2025 WNBA Draft picks Liatu King and Maddy Westbeld. Last season, King broke the Notre Dame single-season record for rebounds per game (10.4) and was named to the all-ACC second team. The previous year, Westbeld was one of four players in the ACC to average at least 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds. Before his time in South Bend, Knox worked almost a decade with the Indiana Fever in multiple roles and helped lead the team to eight consecutive WNBA playoff appearances, including the 2012 WNBA championship. Knox was a two-time NCAA scoring champion, NCAA All-American and NCAA Player of the Year for IUPUI. After college, he played for the Indiana Pacers from 1998-99 and played overseas in Croatia, Germany, Venezuela and Italy. He has also been a head coach in the International Basketball League, Continental Basketball Association and American Basketball Association. Jonquel Jones and Sabrina Ionescu have double-doubles, Liberty snap streak of losses to Lynx 85-75
Jonquel Jones had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Sabrina Ionescu added 17 points and 11 assists, and the New York Liberty beat the Minnesota Lynx 85-75 on Tuesday night, after losing the first three meetings between the teams this season. Both teams were without a star player — Minnesota's Napheesa Collier missed her fifth game with a right ankle sprain, and the Liberty's Breanna Stewart is still sidelined with a bone bruise in her knee. Courtney Williams and Natisha Hiedeman picked up the mantle for Minnesota (28-6), scoring 17 points and 16 points, respectively. Jessica Shepard had 10 rebounds. New York (22-13) opened a 12-point lead in the first quarter. By the time Ionescu hit a 3-pointer to end the first half, they were still ahead by 11 points. A series of Lynx steals and Hiedeman 3-pointers shrunk New York's lead to 66-60 heading into the final quarter, and New York's advantage thinned to four as time wound down. But another long-range 3-pointer from Ionescu widened the lead to seven in the final minutes — to the celebration of a packed Barclays Center — and a final layup from Kennedy Burke sealed the deal.

WNBA fines Sophie Cunningham again for criticizing refs: 'They didn't like my comment on Paige Bueckers'
INDIANAPOLIS — You might not believe this, but Sophie Cunningham has been fined, again, by the WNBA for criticizing the officiating. The Indiana Fever guard was fined an undisclosed amount for expressing her frustration with how the officials treated Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers during Aug. 12's game in Indianapolis. "I love Paige to death, don't get me wrong," Cunningham said on an Aug. 13 episode of her 'Show Me Something' podcast. "I think she's a hell of a player and would love to play with her one day, but those refs were giving her every frickin' whistle last night. Like you literally couldn't touch her. That's just so annoying to me." Yep, that'll do it. "I'm officially 3-for-3 on being fined by the WNBA," Cunningham said on her most recent 'Show Me Something' podcast. "Holy sh--! For this?! For the pod?" co-host West Wilson asked. "They didn't like my comment on Paige Bueckers... I didn't even say anything bad," Cunningham said. This marks the third time Cunningham has been fined for speaking out on the officiating this season. She was hit with $500 charge for posting a TikTok about 'some officials' set to Sabrina Carpenter's 'Manchild' on July 23 (she lip-synced the 'Stupid. Or is it slow. Maybe it's useless.' part), then drew a $1,500 fine during the debut episode of her 'Show Me Something' podcast. On Sunday, Cunningham suffered a season-ending MCL injury when Connecticut's Bria Hartley fell into her leg. Cunningham's sister Lindsey took to social media after the injury posting: ".@WNBA maybe you should focus less on fining players for commenting on your poor officiating & more about hiring officials that are able to call a consistent game and protect your athletes. Pathetic. Praying for you .@sophaller🙏🏼❤️" On her podcast released Tuesday night, Cunningham downplayed any malice in Hartley's fall into her legs. "I know Bria," she said. "I'm actually really good friends with Bria and I have been waiting to get on the pod so we can talk about this." 'There was no ill intent, I think it was a basketball play,' Cunningham continued. 'I was just in the wrong spot at the wrong time (and) she fell. There's no way that she would go in there and potentially try to hurt me. I have nothing but love for Bria … and so I hope people stop giving Bria some heat because I don't think she meant to do that at all.' With regards to Cunningham's comments on the Wings game's officiating, she was not alone in her frustration. Coach Stephanie White called out the referees for a perceived 'double standard,' citing calls against forward Aliyah Boston — 'I think AB's the worst officiated post player in the league,' she said — and overall inconsistencies. 'If it's going to be physical, and you're going to allow us to be physical, then allow both teams to be physical,' White told reporters during her postgame news conference. 'If you're going to call the holds, and you're going to call the chucks, then call it both ways. So, I mean, I think that we've been pretty consistent in what we're asking for, and I didn't feel like it was consistent.' In a news conference ahead of the All-Star Game in Indianapolis, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said league officiating is something they "continue to work on," and that there is an independent evaluation of officials throughout the season.
