Notices to contractor, consultant, 4 NMRDA officials in Koradi slab collapse

1 2 Nagpur: The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has sent notices to the contractor firm BBG, Project Management Consultants (PMC), and four of its own officials on Monday, as two separate probes started into the slab collapse at the construction site of the VIP entrance at Koradi temple on Saturday. The officials have to reply to the notices, which ask why action should not be taken against them, within 24 hours. NMRDA has appointed a committee of four experts to conduct an independent inquiry into the matter. A separate committee under the district collector has been set up on the directions of revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Sixteen workers, including four supervisors, had been injured in the slab collapse at the construction site of a gate as part of the development works at the Koradi temple pilgrimage site. Even as investigations into the cause of the accident are starting, NMRDA on Monday announced Rs1 lakh aid to those injured, and Rs2 lakh to the seriously injured workers. Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has ordered an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of collector Vipin Itankar. This committee includes executive engineer Rajesh Sontakke (water resources department), chief engineer Sambhaji Mane (public works department), superintending engineer Manish Patil, and expert RK Ingle (VNIT). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo Bawankule has directed completion of the inquiry and submission of a report within 30 days. NMRDA has also initiated action by appointing an independent committee. The panel will consider the fact that when the slab casting work started at night, no representative of NMRDA or the consultant was present at the site. The NMRDA committee is headed by superintending engineer Abdul Javed (NMRDA), and includes executive engineer Lalit Raut, and deputy director of town planning Supriya Thul. This committee will submit its report within a week. Discussions about suspending some officials were underway in administrative circles on Monday, reliable sources from NMRDA said. Sources also said that an official decision in this regard will be taken in the next two days. "The slab work was 80% complete. Suddenly the slab started moving. Before we could understand anything, we all fell on the safety net. However, Naresh Baghel fell on the road from a height and was injured seriously. I had an injury to my waist. I was discharged from hospital on Monday, and doctors have advised rest," said an injured worker, Mukesh Vindane. Dharmendra Patle, brother-in-law of seriously injured worker Naresh Baghel (age 30 years), said Baghel had been working in the construction sector for 6 years. Baghel underwent a surgery for his head injury, and has serious injuries to his hands and legs too. Currently, he is in ICU. "Company officials are ensuring treatment is done at their expense. Baghel was the sole earner in the family comprising his mother, wife and seven-month-old daughter. Though originally from Balaghat, the family lives on rent at Jaripatka," said Patle. Plan to re-train forest personnel in weapons handling

1 2 Bhubaneswar: Following the killing of a forest guard in May by poachers using a pump-action gun carried by him, the wildlife wing of the forest department has planned to re-train all its personnel possessing various firearms. Experts attributed the death to mishandling of the gun by the forest guard. The department provided all personnel with firearms last year after poachers killed two forest personnel in Similipal Tiger Reserve in 2023. "After the firearms were given to forest personnel, they received some training from police. But that is not enough. While periodical training is necessary for gun handling, we want to carry it out soon. We have had initial discussions with the home department. Proper training will ensure that the guns are not misused by poachers and are mostly used as a deterrent," said a top wildlife officer. Initially, forest personnel used weapons owned by police such as pistols, revolvers and .303 rifles during their training. After the new weapons were received, they received another round of training. Four types of guns — 9mm pistol (automatic), pistol, 5.56mm Excalibur rifle(equivalent in lethality to Insas), and pump-action gun — have been given to forest personnel. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Georgia: Kitchen Remodeling Trends in 2025 May Surprise You Kitchen Remodeling | Search ads Search Now Undo While pistol is allowed to be used by deputy range officers and above rank, the Excalibur is for use by Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF) personnel. Pump-action guns were given to forest guards and foresters. "For handling new guns, the personnel received three-day weapons training apart from training on tackling crisis situations. Altogether, 40 personnel in Similipal received training. They will get further training along with others in their respective districts from police," the officer added. At least 10 years after the STPF was raised, its personnel received weapons training. They now trek the forest and track poachers with just sticks. A handful of them carry double-barrel firearms.
