NASCAR moving 2026 championship to Homestead as part of finale rotation
Homestead-Miami Speedway, which played host to the championship race from 2002-19, will be the site of the 2026 finales for the three national series from Nov. 6-8, 2026. As for 2027, NASCAR said it will move to another site as part of a plan to rotate the finale.
Phoenix Raceway, which has played host to the championships from 2020-2025, will be one of the tracks in the rotation. Other tracks in the rotation were not announced, but with its finale currently in early November, only warm-weather locations can be considered.
What NASCAR doesn't know yet is how it will crown its champions. It has a committee working on the playoff format. The current format of eliminations results in four drivers eligible for the title in the final race, and the best finisher among those four at the finale is crowned the champion.
Doing that, especially at one track, could favor or disfavor a driver depending on the driver's strength at that particular track.
NASCAR's moving the championship around should increase the buzz as well as provide a little more competitive balance.
"As we move forward, the rotating model will provide new challenges for competitors as well as opportunities for unique venues to host our loyal fans," NASCAR Executive Vice President Ben Kennedy said.
Homestead, which had a race in March this year, will continue to have one race, which will be the championship in 2026. Phoenix will continue to have two races annually.
NASCAR's plan to move the season finale was first reported by The Athletic.

How to make bold (and smart) College Football Playoff predictions using the preseason Top 25
The most important thing to keep in mind as you put together your personal College Football Playoff predictions is they are all but guaranteed to be wrong. So don't sweat it. Nobody saw Indiana and Arizona State (combined six wins in 2023) as even long shots to make the first 12-team CFP. But if you were following along with me last year, before I joined The Athletic, you might remember I tried to warn you that history strongly suggested there would be at least a couple of surprise teams. Advertisement Not only is picking a chalky bracket boring, it's just about as likely to be incorrect. Using AP Top 25 preseason polls from 2014 to 2023 and comparing them to final CFP rankings over the same period, I came up with a very unscientific 'formula' for predicting a playoff bracket. In Year 1 of the 12-team format, it turned out to be pretty accurate. The formula doesn't identify specific teams to select. It guides you to choose a specific number of teams from five tiers using the preseason AP poll. Your 12-team bracket should include: Last year, the bracket included four of the preseason top five (Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia, Texas; Alabama missed out), two from six to 10 (Penn State and Notre Dame) and two from 11 through 20 (Clemson and Tennessee). There were no CFP teams ranked 21 through 25 in the preseason and four CFP teams that started the season unranked (Boise State, Arizona State, Indiana and SMU). Boise State and SMU at least showed up in the 'Others Receiving Votes' section. The point of the exercise is not necessarily to pick the bracket correctly as much as it is to get you thinking beyond the top 15 or so teams in the country. It's highly unlikely a team that won only three games last year will make the CFP this season. Oklahoma State, anyone? But you might want to be open-minded about Houston (four wins), Auburn (five), Washington (six) or Georgia Tech (seven). So have fun with it. In fact, use the formula to come up with several different combinations. Even tweak the formula a bit if you want — as long as you're stretching your imagination at least a little. For my own 'official' picks, I just couldn't comfortably eliminate one of the AP's top five (Texas, Penn State, Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia). For this column, I'm sticking with the formula. Notre Dame social media reacts to CJ Carr being named the starting quarterback
On Tuesday, Notre Dame football announced who will start the season opening game against Miami, redshirt-freshman CJ Carr. The Michigan native beat out Kenny Minchey for the role, as the two battle through the spring until head coach Marcus Freeman had made a decision. He did say on Sunday that he would take into consideration who offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and quarterback coach Gino Guidugli thought best fit the offense. At the end of the day Carr was the choice, and while many didn't see it coming due to reports that Minchey looked better during camp, the Irish went with the younger option. There was no doubt that social media was going to react to the news, and here are some of the best comments shared by insiders and fans. A bit surprising The competition was fierce, and while it didn't seem like Carr would be the choice at times, he eventually was. It's a bit premature to suggest that Minchey would leave, especially since anything could happen during the season. Talia Baia has been all over training camp, so she would know it was a bit surprising. JaDon Blair's father gives Minchey helpful advice It's a family in South Bend, and that extends to the players families as well. Blair surely knows Minchey put his all into trying to win the starting job, and the elder Blair gives him some great advice. There's no need to get down on yourself, just get ready for the next opportunity. Not a Michigan man As The Athletic's Vannini points out, Carr is a Michigan legacy who didn't follow his grandfather to Ann Arbor. He would have had a shot to start there was well, since it looks like they'll be turning the offense to a true freshman. The Wolverines loss was clearly Notre Dame's gain, which stokes the rivalry fire a bit more. Is this the appropriate meme? I'm a big fan of Pickell, but I'm not sure this is such a crazy decision. Both quarterback had pro's and con's, but going with Carr's immense upside makes plenty of sense. There's schedule is manageable, and there's plenty of time for him to get acclimated to this level. However, if Pickell is saying this could be fun, then let's go. Great work on the graphic The graphic of the day, besides the actually announcement of course. The little details are fantastic, from the 'Freeman Film' to the 'manufacturers of Joe Montana and Brady Quinn'. You win the day Rational ND Fan. Upside in Carr It very much seemed like Freeman didn't want to play it safe, and went with upside in Carr. While Minchey still has all the traits you are looking for in a quarterback, in my eyes, the new starter has a certain flare about his game that elevates the players around him. That's something you just can't teach. And throws like that. Minchey had a legit shot While many thought that it was Carr's job to lose, Minchey sure didn't let that get in his way of impressive many people during the competition. I also believe that the coaching staff gave him a legit chance at winning the job, and he almost did it. Thank you coach Freeman Finishing with this great post, The 4 Horsemen Podcast shared a great post on the quarterback outlook. There was only going to be one starter, the other disappointed, who needs to continue to stay ready. The fact that Notre Dame was in this situation is a far cry from the Brian Kelly era, and Freeman deserves a ton of credit for reshaping the Irish roster.
