IND vs ENG: Sachin Tendulkar gives his verdict on Test series - 10/10
Legendary India cricketer
Sachin Tendulkar
has given his verdict on India's exhilarating win over England in the fifth Test at The Oval, which helped level the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2.
One of the great Test matches—destined to live long in memory—was decided by a perfect yorker from
Mohammed Siraj
, as India drew the series 2-2 despite a valiant and brave effort from Chris Woakes, who came out to bat with his arm in a sling.
"Test cricket… absolute goosebumps. Series 2–2, Performance 10/10! SUPERMEN from INDIA! What a win," Tendulkar wrote on X.
England arrived on the final day of the five-match series needing just 35 runs with four wickets in hand to complete a remarkable chase of 374 but were blown away on a morning of unbearable tension.
Mohammed Siraj took three of the four wickets to fall on Day 5, finishing with figures of 5 for 104.
"It means so much," said
Shubman Gill
to the BBC.
"This was a very hard-fought series. Both teams kept throwing punches, and you could never really predict after Day Four who was going to win the match.
We are a young team, but before the start of the series we spoke about not wanting to be seen as a 'young team'… and I think we showed that today."

England captain Ben Stokes, who missed the Oval Test due to injury, said it had been an "incredible series", with all five Tests going into the final day.
"So much has been put into this series from both teams," the all-rounder said. "The commitment and energy have been outstanding.
Standing here now, we're bitterly disappointed we couldn't get the series win. But as a massive advocate for Test cricket, I can say this series has been an unbelievable advertisement for the format around the world.
To all the doubters saying Test cricket is dying — this series has proved the opposite."

'Workload management is nonsense': Former India cricketer blasts Jasprit Bumrah after IND vs ENG series
Jasprit Bumrah (PTI Photo) India recently concluded a 2-2 Test series against England, marking one of their most notable overseas performances. The series featured Jasprit Bumrah 's comeback after recovering from a back injury that had sidelined him during last year's Australia series. Bumrah participated in three out of five matches due to workload management concerns, claiming 14 wickets with two five-wicket hauls. Several cricket legends, including Sunil Gavaskar , have expressed concerns about workload management. Gautam Gambhir's fiery press conferences: Every time the India head coach lost his cool Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Former Indian cricketer Sandeep Patil shared his views on workload management during an interaction with Mid-Day. "Workload management is nonsense. You are either fit or unfit, and that's how we [his selection committee] picked teams. We did not entertain this workload business. Modern-day players have all the facilities. We did not have such rehab programmes in our playing days. At times, we carried on playing despite injuries. Let's just say we were happy playing for the country… no naatak," said Sandeep. Poll Should physiotherapists have a say in team selection? Yes, they play an important role. No, selection should be left to coaches and selectors. Patil questioned the BCCI 's stance on workload management and the role of physiotherapists in team selection. "I wonder how the BCCI is agreeing to all this. Is the physio more important than the captain, than the head coach? What about selectors? Are we to expect that the physio will be sitting in selection committee meetings now? Will he decide?" he asked. Patil emphasised the importance of dedication when representing the national team. "When you are picked for your country, you die for your country. You are a warrior. I have seen Sunil Gavaskar bat on all five days of a match, I've seen Kapil Dev bowl on most days of a Test match, and even bowl to us in the nets. They never asked for breaks, never complained, and their careers extended to 16-plus years. I didn't miss the next Test after my head injury in Australia in 1981." Patil cited examples of cricket legends Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, who consistently performed without requesting breaks. He also mentioned his own experience of playing immediately after sustaining a head injury in Australia in 1981. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

He said he still wants to win, yet his future is open. This has started big talk about a surprising trade near the 2025-26 season. Could he end up with Stephen Curry on the Golden State Warriors? LeBron James could join Stephen Curry - here's how it might happen On June 29, LeBron James told the Lakers he was taking his player option worth $52.6 million for the 2025-26 season - his 23rd year in the NBA. LeBron's current deal runs until June 30, 2026, after which he will hit free agency. His agent, Rich Paul, has made it clear that LeBron's focus is still on winning. — FirstTake (@FirstTake) Paul also revealed that the Lakers never put a fresh contract on the table before LeBron decided to opt in. On top of that, LeBron wasn't told in advance about major moves, like the Anthony Davis trade back in February 2025, which may have added to his uncertainty. Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks could pursue him An unnamed NBA executive told DallasHoopsJournal that three teams would try to sign LeBron in 2026: the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Dallas Mavericks. NHL analyst suggests bold two-step contract strategy for Connor McDavid under new CBA rules
Connor McDavid's future looms large (Credit: Getty Images) The Edmonton Oilers find themselves at a pivotal moment with NHL superstar Connor McDavid. Following another disappointing loss in the Stanley Cup Final, the franchise is under pressure to secure the long-term services of its captain. McDavid's current eight-year, $100 million contract, signed in 2017, runs through the 2025-26 season, carrying a $12.5 million average annual value. By the time it expires, he will become an unrestricted free agent, opening the door to potential suitors across the league. — NHL (@NHL) NHL analyst proposes a two-phase extension plan A league analyst has suggested that Edmonton abandon the conventional single long-term extension in favor of a calculated two-step approach. Step one would see McDavid sign a one-year extension in August 2026 for the 2026-27 season worth $14.6 million AAV. That season, the NHL salary cap is projected at $104 million. Step two would involve McDavid signing a three-year extension in January 2027, when the cap is expected to climb to $113 million. This timing would align his earnings with the cap's upward trajectory. And give the Oilers more breathing room to strengthen the roster in the short term. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The plan takes advantage of the CBA rule that allows a player's salary to reach up to 20% of the league cap. Based on future projections, McDavid's contract could approach the unprecedented figure of $20 million annually. Connor McDavid's potential record-setting earnings If executed, this two-phase plan could see McDavid earn approximately $65.6 million over four seasons, averaging $16.4 million annually. That would surpass Auston Matthews' league-leading $13.25 million AAV. And even Leon Draisaitl's upcoming $14 million deal, solidifying McDavid's status as one of the highest-paid players in NHL history. A franchise cornerstone worth the investment Since being selected first overall in the 2015 NHL Draft. McDavid has been the face of the Oilers and one of the most dominant players in hockey; he has recorded an astounding 1,082 points, including 361 goals and 721 assists. Becoming the engine behind Edmonton's offense and a perennial Hart Trophy contender. Securing McDavid's future will be the Oilers' most significant off-ice challenge in the coming years. This creative contract strategy could provide the perfect balance between rewarding the game's best player and giving the team the flexibility to capture the Stanley Cup that has eluded them finally.
