Wanita PKR urges action after FB group found sharing pics of children

Wanita PKR has urged swift action against anything that perpetuates sexual crimes against minors after the discovery of a Facebook group sharing photos of underage schoolchildren.
The party wing demanded that the police, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and women, family and community development ministry take immediate and serious action on the matter.

'Wanita PKR also calls on parents and all of society to be constantly alert and responsible for the safety of children from sexual violence.
'(This includes) monitoring social media for groups with elements of obscenity, grooming and sexual harassment, and for comments that insult the modesty of children,' it said in a statement today.

The 'Group Budak2 Sekolah Rendah' page, now inaccessible, had over 12,000 members and many explicitly sexual comments and captions on its photos.
The images included underage students wearing primary and secondary school uniforms, traditional wear, sports attire, and casual clothing.

The issue came to light after rapper Ariz Ramli, better known as Caprice, was notified of the group's existence via an Instagram message. The group was then reported to MCMC as well as the police.
Influencer Wee Yun Nee, also known as Mekyun, spoke out about the issue as well after realising that photos from her childhood were also circulating on the page.

The group's circulation of children's images without consent for the purpose of inciting sexual harassment violates both the Child Act 2001 and Section 211 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which pertains to 'offensive content'.

Indecent social media pages must be dealt with swiftly, says Fadhlina
PETALING JAYA: Social media pages with pornographic and immoral content must be reported immediately and action must be taken, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. She said the ministry took a serious view of recent media reports about such pages linked to paedophilia and featuring schoolchildren. 'The existence of these pages must be curbed. 'It must be reported immediately and action must be taken,' she said in a statement on Friday (June 13). 'Psychosocial support services must also be continuously strengthened to provide support for students," she said. Fadhlina also urged parents to play a more proactive role at home in protecting their children from the threat of sexual harassment. 'They must ensure their children's dignity is preserved,' she added. On Tuesday (June 10), a Facebook group was found to be circulating photos of underage students with sexually charged comments. The group named "Group Budak 2 Sekolah Rendah" had around 12,000 members and has since been deleted from Facebook.

Gerik crash: Police probe teacher over offensive remarks on victims
IPOH: Police have launched an investigation into a Facebook account that posted offensive remarks about the deaths of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students in the recent road accident in Gerik. Manjung police chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman said a report was received at about 4.40 pm yesterday. 'A Facebook account under the name 'Khalid Yunus' was found to have posted an offensive remark about the students,' he said in a statement today. He said the case was being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Earlier, the Perak Education Department had instructed a school to prepare a full report concerning one of its teachers, who allegedly posted the offensive remarks.
