According to The Gauge, streaming represented 44.8% of TV viewership in May — its largest share to date — while broadcast (with 20.1%) and cable (24.1%) combined to represent 44.2% of TV viewership.
Nielsen notes that since The Gauge's launch four years ago, streaming has seen a usage increase of 71%, while broadcast and cable viewing have declined (down 21% and 39%, respectively).
'It's fitting that this inflection point coincides with the four-year anniversary of Nielsen's The Gauge, which has become the gold standard for streaming TV measurement,' Nielsen CEO Karthik Rao said in a statement. 'It's also a credit to media companies, who have deftly adapted their programming strategies to meet their viewers where they are watching TV — whether it's on streaming or linear platforms.'
Also in that four-year span, several more streaming services are now reported on by The Gauge, by having attained a full share point of TV usage. They join the OGs Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Prime Video and Disney+.
Nielsen says that 'free services have been a major driver of streaming's overall success,' with YouTube Main (excluding YouTube TV) exhibiting steady, significant growth (+120%) since 2021. 'Additionally, FAST services have become increasingly popular, and three have reached the reportable threshold in The Gauge,' with PlutoTV, Roku Channel and Tubi combining for 5.7% of total TV viewing in May — more than any individual broadcast network.

Stephen A. Smith Slams Lebron James For 'Hiding Behind His Son' Months After Their Explosive Feud
It's a known fact that Stephen A. Smith and LeBron James aren't the biggest fans of each other, and based on a new interview the ESPN commentator did with Rolling Stone, it's starting to make sense why. Stephen A. Smith Doesn't Hold Back Against LeBron James In A Candid New Interview MEGA According to Smith, who joined the ESPN family in 2003, he's always covered LeBron's career objectively and fairly. Advertisement However, some of his reporting on LeBron's behind-the-scenes dealings in the NBA reportedly angered the four-time champion. "I don't like him, and he don't like me," Smith stated. "He's one of the greatest players who's ever lived." He added, "I'm going to show him that respect, and I'm going to cover him objectively. When he does great, I'm gonna applaud. When he doesn't do great, I'm not gonna applaud." Smith Calls LeBron James Out For Hiding Behind His Son After Things Got Explosive Between Them MEGA Tensions between Smith and LeBron James reached an all-time high at the beginning of 2025, after the pair were seen butting heads courtside over pointed comments Smith had made about LeBron's son, Bronny James, on an episode of "First Take." Advertisement 'I am pleading with LeBron James as a father: stop this. Stop this,' Smith said on camera before questioning whether Bronny is a skilled enough player to be in the NBA. He continued, 'We all know that Bronny James is in the NBA because of his dad." Smith then highlighted Bronny's early-season performance in the league, which, at the time, many deemed unimpressive. 'You know what people are saying. You know what they're going to do to this kid,' Smith said. 'In 13 games, he has played 44 minutes. He has scored four points, he is shooting 1-of-16 from the field, 0-for-7 from 3-point range. How are you doing him favors? We know that he's not ready yet. And I'm saying this with compassion." Advertisement He added, "You know what it's going to do to your son, to people that are missing out on opportunities, that are busting their tail on other NBA teams and the G League and Europe and everywhere else, what kind of opportunity they are starving for? You're exposing your son like this.' Smith Assures People He Was Not Speaking Negatively About LeBron James' Son MEGA In his most recent interview, Smith criticized LeBron for allegedly using his son to escalate their feud. "He hid behind his son, tried to make something out of nothing, as if I was dogging his son, which I was not," Smith said. Advertisement "The real issue was we don't like each other. And he used that as an excuse to confront me. I got it," he added before saying he wasn't going to change his position on the matter in the future. "We're never gonna like each other," Smith stated. "It's not gonna stop me from doing my job. He'll be treated just like any other player I cover. Nobody is going to get me to compromise my professional integrity. I don't have to like you to be fair to you." LeBron Addressed His Beef With Smith During An Earlier Interview MEGA Previously, on "The Pat McAfee Show," LeBron commented on his long-standing feud with Smith, slamming him for going on a "Taylor Swift tour run" to discuss their issues. Advertisement "It started off with, 'I didn't want to address it. I wasn't going to address it, but since the video came out, I feel the need to address it,'" James said. He continued: "Are you kidding me? If there was one person [who] couldn't wait for the video to drop, it was your -ss. Like seriously?" Bronny's Coach Had Positive Things To Say About Him MEGA Bronny, meanwhile, appears unfazed by the noise surrounding him and his father in the NBA; in fact, he says, it only motivates him to work harder. "My first thought about everything is I always try to just let it go through one ear and out the other, put my head down, and come to work and be positive every day," he said. Advertisement And that attitude appears to be impacting his team, as head coach JJ Redick praised the rookie guard during a previous conversation with ESPN. "I've just been impressed with the person that he is," Redick said. "And to deal with ... frankly, bullsh-t because of who his dad is and just keep a level head about it and be a class act says a lot about him, says a lot about that family."

F1 Rookie, 20, Raises Concerns as Alleged Attitude Problem Comes to Light at NYC ‘F1' Movie Premiere: ‘Not Stoked'
F1 Rookie, 20, Raises Concerns as Alleged Attitude Problem Comes to Light at NYC 'F1' Movie Premiere: 'Not Stoked' originally appeared on Parade. As F1 gears up to hit theaters on June 27, the 2025 Formula One grid is stepping out in style, ready to show their support at the F1 movie premiere in New York City tonight (June 16). Well, maybe not the entire grid, as one F1 driver is facing controversy after seeming rather uninterested in the oh-so special evening: Visa Cash App Racing Bulls F1 Team rookie Isack Hadjar. For those who are unfamiliar, F1 — directed by Joseph Kosinski, written by Ehren Kruger and starring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, Javier Bardem and more — is a film centered around the life of Sonny Hayes (Pitt), a fictional F1 driver from 1990s who retired after a terrible accident, revisiting the racing world to join rookie Joshua 'Noah' Pearce (Idris) on the on the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP). While the movie itself looks nothing short of sensational, fans are equally as excited for cameos from their favorite F1 drivers, who will make brief appearances throughout F1: Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr., Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu, Nico Hülkenberg, Kevin Magnussen, Nyck de Vries, Daniel Ricciardo, Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, Logan Sargeant and Alex Albon. Although he will not be featured in the film, Hadjar put on his finest fit to attend the F1 movie premiere, rocking an oversized brown suit that looked cool-as-can-be. He paired the blazer with a white Hugo shirt underneath, and to accessorize the outfit, the 20-year-old opted for a bold black watch, as well as some black-and-white sneakers. While Hadjar certainly posed for some sexy solo shots, he also caught up with his Visa Cash App Racing Bulls buddies, snapping some photos with his teammate, Liam Lawson, as well as team principal Laurent Mekies and CEO Peter Bayer. How sweet is that? Although Isack was all smiles in a majority of the photos from the F1 movie premiere, as mentioned previously, Formula One fans jumped to conclusions after the official Formula One Instagram account shared an image of the French driver looking rather grim. "Why Hadjar looks sad bro 😭" one fan wrote in the comment section of the post, while others added "Hadjar did not wanna be there 💀" and "Isack was clearly not stoked to watch this movie again 💀" "Someone check up on Hadjar and Lawson," a fourth fan wrote, looping his teammate into the allegationa as well. Based on the rest of the photos and videos from the evening, we're going to go out on a limb and say that the official Formula One Instagram account caught Hadjar in a bad moment, but could there be more to the story? Needless to say, we will be obsessively refreshing social media for the rest of the evening for any further updates. Hadjar aside, be sure to mark your calendars — F1 will hit theaters on June 27, and it is truly a must-see for Formula One fans everywhere. Kelsey Plum Taking Heat For Hotel Interaction With WNBA Fan
Kelsey Plum Taking Heat For Hotel Interaction With WNBA Fan originally appeared on The Spun. Kelsey Plum might be one of the most popular players in the WNBA, but it appears fans have changed their tune about her this week. Advertisement The Los Angeles Sparks acquired Plum this past offseason in a massive three-team trade involving the Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm. Unsurprisingly, the All-Star guard has played well under the bright lights in Los Angeles. She's currently averaging 20.9 points and 5.6 assists per game for the Sparks. While her production on the court has been great, Plum went viral this week because of an interaction she had with a few fans. Plum was creeped out by fans standing outside of the Sparks' hotel. This incident occurred during the team's recent road trip. Advertisement Clearly, that behavior didn't fly with Plum. "Don't y'all find that a little weird? Low key, like, low key? Come on? I'm really turned off right now," Plum told the fans. Over the past few hours, Plum has received a lot of backlash for the way she handled this encounter. "Everyone is entitled to feel how they feel. Some people find the runway fashion shoots on red carpets before games weird," one fan wrote on X. "WNBA players begged for more attention , more coverage …… but they 1000% are unequipped and ill prepared for this ….. they need some sort of training," a second fan said. "Does the WNBA not want fans or," another fan asked. Advertisement "So you finally get the attention you begged years and years for in the WNBA and then shut down fans when asked for 5 seconds of your time because you're too good for them," a social media user wrote. It's possible these people were resellers rather than true WNBA fans. If that's the case, people may end up retracting their comments about Plum. Until that ends up being confirmed or denied, Plum will probably receive a bit more criticism on social media. Plum will return to the hardwood Saturday when the Sparks take on the Minnesota Lynx.
