Kavitha launches ‘Leader' initiative for training future politicos
Unveiling a poster for 'Leader' at her residence on Sunday, MLC Kavitha emphasised the critical importance of youth participation for fostering cleaner politics. Speaking at the event, Ms Kavitha stated that Telangana is renowned for its questioning spirit and stressed the need to cultivate this trait in future generations. She announced that Telangana Jagruthi would conduct three day political training sessions every month across the state. The inaugural session is scheduled to commence in July in Hyderabad, with subsequent monthly sessions to be held in various districts starting from August.
Encouraging students, youth, and women to participate in the training programme, MLC Kavitha outlined that the sessions would cover key topics. These include the roles and responsibilities of elected representatives, from Sarpanches to Members of Parliament, as well as strategies for identifying and resolving public issues and mobilising development funds.
MLC Kavitha further reiterated that Telangana Jagruthi would continue its fight for achieving 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections. She also highlighted the significance of preparing women leaders for the upcoming parliamentary and assembly elections, particularly in light of the Women's Reservation Act, which provides 33 per cent reservations for women. With delimitation expected to increase the number of assembly seats in Telangana to 153, and Lok Sabha seats as well, Ms Kavitha underscored the necessity for strong, well informed leaders.

Bhopal: State Congress on Thursday organised a Vote Satyagraha Tiranga Yatra in Gwalior which was led by state in-charge Harish Chaudhary, PCC chief Jitu Patwari, LOP Umang Singhar and senior party functionaries Sunil Sharma, MLAs Pankaj Upadhyay, Sahab Singh Gurjar, Suresh Raje, Gwalior (city) district president Devendra Sharma, former MLA Praveen Pathak and others. Speaking to reporters, state party in-charge Chaudhary said: "Today, it is our biggest responsibility to stop the attacks on the democratic system of the country and to save the sanctity of the right to vote. The vote theft being done by the BJP is an attempt to weaken the roots of democracy, and the Congress will fight it strongly." The Congress party is taking out protest marches and demonstrations across the state to protest vote-theft which was alleged by Lok Sabha LOP Rahul Gandhi last week. The Congress claimed that during the 2024 Parliamentary elections, one assembly constituency within a Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka had more than a lakh fake voters. LOP Singhar said: "Our pride is our tricolor. This struggle against the conspiracy of vote-theft in the country is not just for votes, but to save the soul of the country." Patwari said: "Today, by participating in Vote Satyagraha Tiranga Yatra in Gwalior, we have raised our voice for democratic justice and constitutional rights. Those responsible for vote theft will be brought to the dock. The provision of 'one person, one vote' is necessary for a healthy and prosperous democracy, but the BJP has committed the organised crime of vote theft by insulting democracy." He argued that the Vote Satyagraha Tiranga Yatra is being organised to give a clear message from Gwalior that the Congress party will continue to struggle on every front to protect democracy and maintain the sanctity of voting rights. SC annuls nomination of Kodandaram & Amer Ali Khan to Council
Hyderabad: Supreme Court on Wednesday annulled the nominations of M Kodandaram and Amer Ali Khan as members of the legislative council (MLCs) under the governor's quota, and said any fresh nominations must come through a recommendation of the state cabinet and approval by the governor. The court also made it clear that even such future nominations will be subject to the final outcome of the pending petitions. A bench of justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta acknowledged that its own interim order (dated Aug 14, 2024) had, in effect, allowed the swearing-in of the Congress govt's nominees while the legal dispute was still before the court. "Our intention is only to say that any future nominations made during the course of hearing this plea would be subject to the final outcome in this batch of pleas," Justice Vikram Nath said. The bench brushed aside objections raised by counsel for Kodandaram and Amer Ali while hearing separate petitions filed by BRS nominees, Dasoju Sravan and Kurra Satyanarayana. The dispute traces back to Sept 2023, when the then governor, Tamilisai Soundararajan, rejected the nominations of Sravan and Satyanarayana on the ground that they were party functionaries and therefore not suitable for the 'eminent persons' category reserved for nominations under the governor's quota. The BRS nominees challenged the rejection, arguing that a governor has no independent power to turn down the cabinet's recommendation and must act on the aid and advice of the council of ministers. After the Congress led by Revanth Reddy assumed office in Dec 2023, the cabinet recommended Kodandaram and Amer Ali for the two seats. The governor approved these names, contrary to her own press note that she will not act in the matter till the high court resolved the BRS's pleas. The high court later quashed both the governor's rejection of the BRS names and the subsequent approval of the Congress nominees. The BRS govt nominees then approached the Supreme Court, contending that the high court should have restored their nominations. The governor also appealed, saying parts of the high court order could be read as 'intruding' into the governor's constitutional domain. During Wednesday's hearing, attorney general R Venkataramani appeared for the governor and defended the actions taken. He said the governor first faced the allegation that she had not acted on cabinet advice when she rejected the BRS names. "When a second set of names came from the new cabinet, she acted strictly in accordance with that advice and approved them," he said. The bench asked why there appeared to be a 'pick and choose' approach, rejecting one set and approving another. The attorney general responded that the governor had 'rectified the initial mistake' and aligned with the cabinet's recommendation the second time. "The high court said I have to act in tune with the advice of the cabinet and called my rejection order bad in law. Then why did it nullify the subsequent approval of the Congress nominees which was in accordance with cabinet advice? I have no idea why the high court did that," he said, adding that he was not supporting either set of recommendations but stating the legal position as he understood it. With the Supreme Court's modification of its interim order, the high court's March 2024 ruling will operate for now. Any fresh nominations proposed during the pendency of these petitions will be provisional and subject to the Supreme Court's final decision. Congress alleges vote theft, holds candle march protest in Nagpur
Nagpur: The Nagpur District Congress Committee organised a candle march in the city and staged a 'Vote Thief, Leave the Chair' agitation at Samvidhan Chowk on Thursday while alleging voter list irregularities in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections last year. Congress leaders and cadres who participated in the agitation claimed that the BJP won elections through voter list scams and vote theft, "and was backed by the Election Commission of India in this forgery". Winning elections illegitimately is not just a political issue but an insult of the voters, they said. City Congress president MLA Vikas Thakre led the candle march from Variety Square to Samvidhan Square in the evening. MLC Abhijit Wanjarri, general secretary Praful Gudadhe, Vishal Muttemwar, Umakant Agnihotri, Prashant Dhawad, Nash Ali, Sanjay Mahakalkar, along with party office bearers, participated in this agitation. Gudadhe alleged that approximately 33,000 votes increased in just 5 months after the Lok Sabha elections in the South-West Assembly constituency of Nagpur city. "Voters have also increased in the neighbouring Kamptee constituency," he said.
