Kia PV5 Electric Van, with a Future Form, Heads to Production

Yahoo20-02-2025

The Kia PV5 battery-electric van will ride on the company's Platform Beyond Vehicle strategy.
Kia says the PV5 will be available in cargo and passenger versions and will be joined by further additions to the range.
Kia will share more battery-electric news during its EV Day event on Monday, February 24.
Ahead of its EV Day presentation this coming Monday, Kia is showing off a battery-electric PV5. That alphanumeric name translates to a battery-electric cargo or passenger van.
Originally showing its face at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show as a concept, this PV5 has a green light for production.
According to Kia, the futuristically shaped PV5 will be part of its Platform Beyond Vehicle strategy.
While that might not mean anything to most of us, it does mean this PV5 will be part of the growing modular Kia battery-electric plan.
This should help these vans easily adapt to various use cases around the globe, which could be good news for van-centric US shoppers.
Available in cargo and passenger configurations, the new PV5 could be a direct competitor to Volkswagen's ID. Buzz van.
More importantly, it means there will be more consumer-facing and commercial vans on the market.
Kia also showed off the PV5 WKNDR concept at the 2024 SEMA show that targets overlanding enthusiasts.
Kia hasn't revealed anything about the PV5's battery or motor array yet. However, the company will likely drop more details during its EV Day presentation on Monday, February 24.
Kia says this presentation will also include more PV5 variants with conversion options.
Is this van coming to the United States? Considering the company's efforts at CES and the SEMA show, it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see these stateside.
Do you think Kia should bring the PV5 to the USA? Tell us your thoughts below.

Ford's Hot Hatch Is Now Officially History

The end is here for Ford's last hot hatch as the company confirmed to Motor1 that every factory build slot for the Focus ST is spoken for. "All Focus ST factory orders until the end of production have now been reserved," European communications manager Finn Thomasen said. Dealers across the Continent may still have a few unclaimed cars hiding in back lots, but once those are gone-and when Focus production stops in November-the book will officially close on Ford's 45-year hot-hatch chapter. The Focus joins a growing list of Ford passenger cars already in the rear-view mirror. The Fiesta bowed out in 2023, the Mondeo in 2022, and the tiny Ka back in 2020. Without them, Ford's European portfolio is dominated by crossovers such as the Puma and Kuga. The shift has taken a bite out of sales: through April, Ford moved 149,601 vehicles in the EU, U.K., and EFTA markets-down 2.2% year-over-year and less than a third of Volkswagen's haul over the same period. Even Hyundai and Kia have pulled ahead, underscoring how much ground Ford has ceded without its affordable hatchbacks. Yes, the seventh-generation Mustang still flies the performance flag, but it's hardly a volume play. EU taxes punish engines bigger than two liters, dogging the 5.0-liter V-8, while the smaller 2.3-liter EcoBoost was pulled from European order books at the end of 2020. The pony car, therefore, lives on as a niche halo, not a substitute for the daily-drivable, budget-friendly thrills once delivered by ST-badged Fiestas and Focuses. Whether Ford ever revisits the hot-hatch formula likely depends on batteries, not boost pressure. Former Ford of Europe boss-now VW sales chief-Martin Sanders has hinted that the Blue Oval could tap further into Volkswagen's MEB electric platform, the foundation for the forthcoming Explorer and Capri EVs. VW has already promised an electric GTI; a battery-fueled Fiesta ST or Focus ST revival isn't unthinkable if the economics line up. For now, though, enthusiasts must look to the used market or pivot to rival brands still flying the internal-combustion hot-hatch flag. The Fiesta Supersport of 1980 lit the fuse; the Escort RS, Fiesta XR2, and decades of ST variants kept the fire roaring. With the Focus ST's curtain call, the combustion-powered Ford hot hatch becomes history. What replaces it, if anything, will almost certainly hum rather than howl. Until that day arrives, the faithful will remember the glory years and, if they're lucky, snag one of the last STs before they're gone. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

FAW-Volkswagen to produce two new NEV models in Tianjin

FAW-Volkswagen, one of Volkswagen AG's main Chinese joint ventures, revealed plans to produce two new electric vehicle models based on its newly-developed Compact Main Platform (CMP) at its plant in Tianjin from 2027. The news follows the unveiling of three new passenger vehicle concept models based on its CMP - the and - at the Auto Shanghai 2025 show in April. The production plans were revealed following the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between FAW-Volkswagen and the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) government. The models will be designed specifically for the Chinese market, featuring the latest electrification and connected technologies. FAW-Volkswagen's Tianjin plant has an annual production capacity of 300,000 units. FAW-Volkswagen pointed out that the CMP platform represents 'a new generation of architecture independently developed in China at 'China speed' for tech-savvy local consumers.' The automaker claims to have shortened the development cycle for CMP-based vehicles by over 30% to keep up with fast-evolving competition in the local market. CMP-based models will include both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid drivetrains and will feature AI-powered cockpits, advanced driver-assistance systems, and over-the-air updates. Last month FAW-Volkswagen announced an internal restructuring programme in relation to its Volkswagen and Jetta brands, which have lost significant market share in China over the last several years as they struggled to keep up with the fast-growing NEV segment. Two new departments have been established, to speed up new product development and strengthen marketing operations. "FAW-Volkswagen to produce two new NEV models in Tianjin" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand. Kia recalls over 80K vehicles over increased crash risk

(NewsNation) — Kia announced recalls on over 80,000 of its vehicles due to an increased crash risk. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posted the recall, which was issued on May 28, stating that 'parking lights that fail to illuminate properly can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.' The agency also said, 'Due to incorrect software in the Power-net Domain Controller (PDC), when the turn signal is activated while headlamps are activated in a steady burning state or while parking lamps are activated, the corresponding parking lamp does not illuminate in a steady burning manner.' In easier terms, the parking lights flicker. The issue can be fixed either by a Kia dealership or a software update that is downloaded to the vehicle, according to the notice. The recall affects 82,281 of the Kia K5 2025 models. The Kia K5 used to be called the Optima, and it was launched in South Korea in 2010. The 2025 model was revealed in the first half of 2024. Kia says it features 'refreshed exterior styling, updated lights, grills and fascia and a distinctive star map lighting design.' The NHTSA recall database is regularly updated with the status of recalls on car parts, car accessories, and vehicles. To check and see if your vehicle is involved in a recall, you can search the NHTSA's website. 1.7 million air conditioners recalled over mold growth When searching, you can put your vehicle's license plate number or vehicle identification number (VIN) into the search bar. This will give you a more accurate idea of whether your vehicle is involved in a recall. One option you might have is downloading the 'over-the-air' software update offered by Kia. This software update can be downloaded directly to your vehicle. You can also visit a local Kia dealership to have the issue resolved. Jerky and snack sticks recalled nationwide If your vehicle is affected, you should receive a letter sometime after June 24. You can also contact Kia's customer service line at 1-800-333-4542 and use the recall number (SC341) for more information. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
