Court Easy AI Makes History: First AI System to Pass All India Bar Exam with Full Legal Reasoning

BusinessWire India
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 20: Court Easy AI today announced a breakthrough achievement in legal technology at a press conference held at the Mumbai Press Club: it has successfully passed the All India Bar Exam (AIBE), providing not only correct answers but also accurate legal reasoning with relevant statutory citations. This milestone represents the first documented case of an artificial intelligence (AI) system qualifying for a professional legal examination with transparent and verifiable reasoning capabilities.
The AIBE is the mandatory gateway examination for practicing law in India. Court Easy AI's success demonstrates the potential of Domain Aligned AI technology, developed by Nugen Intelligence, to create reliable AI systems for specialized professional domains where precision is paramount. The achievement was verified by legal and technology experts, with Court Easy AI successfully passing two consecutive editions of the AIBE, 18th and 19th from years 2023 and 2024 respectively, at performance levels substantially exceeding the qualification thresholds established by the Bar Council of India. Detailed evaluation revealed that Court Easy AI achieved 87% correct responses on AIBE-18 and 73.1% on AIBE-19, significantly outperforming the qualification thresholds of around 45% for general in each exam.
"This achievement demonstrates that reliable AI can be built for domains where precision and trust are critical," said Dr. Aakash Patil, CEO of Nugen Intelligence, a deep-tech AI research startup founded by AI experts from Stanford University and IIT Madras. "Our fundamental innovation in Domain Aligned AI technology enables AI systems to maintain reliability within strict professional boundaries, something that has been a significant challenge for AI in specialized fields."
When compared with leading general-purpose AI models, Court Easy AI demonstrated superior precision in legal reasoning along with citation. "While these results are impressive, we are committed to further improving these performance metrics in the coming months as we refine our technology," Dr. Patil added.
Mrunmayee Shende, COO & CMO of Nugen Intelligence, emphasized the collaborative nature of their approach: "We see Court Easy AI as both a demonstration of our Domain Aligned AI technology and a valuable tool for legal professionals. Hundreds of legal professionals are already using the platform, confirming that reliable AI assistance significantly enhances their productivity and accuracy in high-stakes legal work."
Nugen Intelligence is actively partnering with legal-tech organizations and technology-forward law firms to help them adopt Domain Aligned AI technology for their specific organizational needs. Rather than competing with existing legal-tech companies, Nugen is focused on providing the foundational AI technology that enables reliable applications across the legal ecosystem. "We believe that reliability is a foundational challenge for all organizations working with AI in critical domains," added Dr. Patil. "Nugen's research in Domain Aligned AI technology is aimed at solving these reliability challenges at the deep learning architecture level, empowering organizations to build AI solutions with predictable performance across legal, finance, healthcare, and other high-stakes environments where errors are unacceptable and trust is non-negotiable. We welcome collaboration with all organizations that share our commitment to building reliable AI systems."
This focus on collaboration rather than competition highlights Nugen's position as an AI research company developing foundational technology that can benefit the entire technology ecosystem in accelerating confident AI adoption. The team that achieved this milestone includes researchers with Ph.D. backgrounds, senior machine learning engineers, and legal-tech experts who worked to ensure that Court Easy AI could provide reliable legal reasoning across the breadth of Indian laws.
"We are inviting the entire legal and AI community to scrutinize our results because transparency is essential for building trust," said Mrunmayee. "We believe all companies developing AI for critical applications should follow similar practices of verification and transparency."
Complete supplementary materials, including the detailed evaluation report and raw question-by-question responses, are available on Court Easy AI website at https://courteasy.ai/announcements/ai-cracks-all-india-bar for independent verification and review. This achievement represents a significant milestone in reliable AI technology that could elevate the quality and efficiency of work across multiple professional domains, beginning with India's legal ecosystem as it continues to evolve in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

New deadline for Curchorem Ravindra Bhavan

Margao: The much-anticipated phase II extension of Ravindra Bhavan in Curchorem is likely to be completed by Sep 31, the latest timeline set by the department of art and culture for completing all pending works. Official records reveal that while the amphitheatre and mini auditorium are structurally complete, interior works remain pending, preventing their immediate use. The project was plagued by multiple setbacks, including the Covid-19 pandemic's impact on manpower and material supply, design changes to the tensile fabric roof system for better structural stability, and contractor-related issues. Most significantly, the interior and allied works contractor was terminated in Dec 2023 due to poor performance, necessitating a fresh tendering process. Financial data reveals that the project's total cost escalated to Rs 27 crore, with Rs 24 crore already disbursed to contractors. The main civil, electrical, and firefighting works component, valued at Rs 20 crore, is 95% complete. However, interior works, originally worth over Rs 20 crore, remain only 50% finished under the new contractor arrangement. The audio-video systems installation is significantly behind schedule at just 30% completion, and doubts persist over its completion before the Sep 31 deadline. Notably, while major infrastructure components like CCTV systems and electrical metering are fully completed, the project's core entertainment facilities remain incomplete. The Rs 1.2 crore audio-video component has seen only Rs 75 lakh in payments, indicating substantial pending work that could further delay the project's operational readiness. The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation is overseeing the project through appointed project management consultants. Karnataka's ‘study abroad scheme' attracts over 5,000 aspirants

Bengaluru: Over 5,000 students have already registered for the Karnataka government's ambitious Study Abroad initiative through the Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation (KVTSDC), under the Department of Skill Development. Encouraging more participation, the department announced that students can still enrol by attending the day-long Study Abroad Expo at Hotel Lalit Ashok on August 17. Over 60 international universities, presenting attractive academic opportunities for Karnataka students, have already camped at the venue, the official statement in this regard said. To ease financial concerns, several public and private banks have set up stalls offering education loans at competitive interest rates. Public undertaking Karnataka Bank has assured the government of the most student-friendly financial packages, the statement said. 'Studying abroad is no longer a privilege reserved for the wealthy. With our government's initiative, even students from economically weaker backgrounds can now pursue higher education overseas without financial burden. This is the first-of-its-kind initiative in India, making global education accessible to all sections of society,' said Sharanaprakash Patil, minister for medical education, skill development, entrepreneurship and livelihood. Unlike private programmes that end support once students leave India, the government-backed scheme guarantees continued assistance abroad - covering welfare, academic progress, and legal aid. The expo also ensures transparency, offering free guidance from university selection to post-departure support, without agency fees, Minister Patil stated. The Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, Government of Karnataka, through the Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation (KVTSDC), has organised the International Study Abroad Fair – 2025 on Sunday. Merchants seek urgent action as roadwork delay hits festive sales in Muvattupuzha

Kochi: Long delay in completing renovation of 1.5-km MC Road stretch in Muvattupuzha town has left local merchants reeling from losses, especially during Onam festive season. Traders say prolonged work by public works department (PWD) has crippled business activity, with customers avoiding congested and dug-up streets. They have urged state govt to intervene immediately and ensure that work is carried out round the clock. Recently, Muvattupuzha merchants' association staged a symbolic protest, accusing authorities and contractors of negligence and an unacceptably slow pace of roadwork in the town. Association president Ajmal Chakkungal told TOI that hospitals and several businesses were being forced to shut temporarily due to the disruption. He alleged that inadequate monitoring, shortage of workers and poor coordination between departments were dragging the project into indefinite delays. According to the association, lack of essential construction materials also stalled progress. "Merchants in Muvattupuzha were the most affected in 2018 and 2019 floods in the state, following which Covid-19 pandemic affected businesses. It is at a juncture when merchants were slowly recovering that the long delay in roadworks is causing distress to people's lives," said Ajmal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Merchants blamed both contractor and PWD officials for the situation, warning that if work does not speed up, further protests will follow. They insist that nighttime construction and deployment of additional machinery are the only ways to bring the project back on track and rescue the town's economy from its current standstill.
