After a long wait, the live-action adaptation of the fan-favourite anime franchise One Piece is once again set to hit Netflix. The beloved manga series has also been renewed for a third season following the overwhelming response to its debut season. The streamer announced the news on One Piece Day, the annual celebration in Tokyo held every year to mark the debut of Eiichiro Oda's legendary manga. Along with the renewal, the platform has also dropped the first official look at Season 2 of the show.
According to Variety, Ian Stokes has teamed up with Joe Tracz to lead the third season of the live-action adaptation of One Piece. Stokes had earlier served as co-executive producer during Season 1, which starred Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero, among others. Reports say production for Season 3 will kick off in Cape Town, South Africa, later this year. While this is great news for fans, it comes with a slight letdown, the lineup for the new season might see some changes. Matt Owens, showrunner for Season 1, has officially stepped away, announcing earlier that he was 'taking a break to focus on myself and my mental health.' It's also not confirmed yet whether the cast lineup will be affected.

Along with the renewal news, Netflix has dropped the first teaser and photos from Season 2. The clip shows Monkey D. Luffy, played by Godoy, alongside the rest of the Straw Hats. The sneak peek also gives a first look at several new characters, including:
More new names added to the lineup are David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra and Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0, among others.

Season 2 of One Piece picks up right after the adventure of Season 1 ended, with Luffy and his crew off to sail the Grand Line. The dangerous sea is filled with strange islands, clever and powerful enemies waiting to torment the Straw Hats and unexpected adventures, staying true to the anime's essence. The group is once again on the hunt for the world's greatest treasure, the One Piece. Returning cast for Season 2 includes Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Jacob Romero as Usopp. The teaser kicks off with Luffy saying, 'Everything I've done, everywhere I go is for the One Piece.'
The official synopsis of season 2 reads, 'Netflix's epic high-seas pirate adventure, 'One Piece,' returns for Season 2—unleashing fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet. Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line, a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world's greatest treasure, they'll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.'
Season 2 will also introduce a new face, Tony Tony Chopper, the reindeer-boy hybrid. The character is voiced by Mikaela Hoover. Hoover earlier described the character and the reason for playing it, saying, 'What excited me about playing Chopper is the tug of war between his standoffishness and his huge heart.' Hoover continued, 'He tries so hard to hide his emotions and put on a tough exterior, but underneath, he's a big softy, and his love can't help but come out.'
