Digital transport fare system planned

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has decided to introduce a digital payment system for Metro Bus and Orange Line transport in the province.
She was presiding over a meeting related to the transport department and Mass Transit Authority, in which she was informed that the token system in the Orange Line train and Metro Bus would be abolished and a barcode system would be introduced for card-based payment.
In the planned system, the fare can be paid through credit, debit and ATM cards, as well as mobile account applications. Payment through near field communication (NFC) cards will also be enabled in the mass transit system in Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The token system will be abolished soon for implementing the e-payment system in Lahore's Orange Line train to enable fare payment through cards and apps.
It was also decided in the meeting to introduce a single card for the mass transit system across the province.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the T-Cash card for the mass transit system. Travel on every Metro Bus or Orange Line train across the province will be possible through the card.
A separate card will be introduced for students.
The chief minister also gave approval in principle for recruitment to technical posts from grade 5 to 18 in the transport department.
The participants of the meeting agreed to introduce electric rickshaws as an alternative to motorcycle rickshaws.
The chief minister sought suggestions for the electric rickshaw project.
She also approved in principle a proposal to organise the first international transport expo in Punjab.
The chief minister announced the introduction of a comprehensive radio frequency identification (RFID) sticker for all matters related to vehicles.
Punjab Transport Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch gave a detailed briefing on the Yellow Line Lahore-Gujranwala bus rapid transit (BRT) system.
The participants were informed that the supply of electric buses in the districts of Punjab will would begin next month.
The meeting also reviewed the design and colour recommendations of prefabricated bus shelters in Lahore. The installation 50 shelters will be initiated soon.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said in her message on World Day for International Justice that where justice was not served, darkness of oppression engulfed the entire society. "If there is no justice, development and prosperity remain an unfulfilled dream."

She highlighted, 'Pakistan signed charter of Global Water Organization under the leadership of Saudi Arabia as a founding member, which is an expression of its commitment to addressing water challenges.' The Chief Minister said, 'The role of Saudi leadership for peace in the region is commendable. Pakistan seeks resolution of issues through dialogue despite Indian aggressive actions.' She underscored, 'Pakistan ratified Indus Waters Treaty through the arbitration decision of June 27, 2025.' Maryam Nawaz said, 'Pakistan seeks Saudi cooperation for early completion of GCC Free Trade Agreement,' adding, 'Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) is an effective platform for speedy completion of projects.' She flagged, 'I am grateful to Saudi government for hosting 2.5 million Pakistanis living in Saudi Arabia. LAHORE: 'Purpose of celebrating Forest Rangers Day is to raise public awareness about measures to protect forests,' said Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. In her message on 'International Forest Rangers Day,' the CM said, 'Services of Rangers for the protection of forests are commendable. Protection of forests is a matter of national interest, public should fully cooperate with Rangers.' The chief minister said, 'Forest Rangers in Punjab are playing a valuable role for the protection of forests. Services of Rangers for the protection of natural resources are unforgettable. Forest guards are our environmental heroes.' Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, 'Role of Forest Rangers in restoring ecological balance in Punjab is very important. Further improvement in training and performance of Rangers is the resolve of Punjab government.' She flagged, 'Punjab government, people and Rangers are working together for a green Pakistan.' Moreover, the CM expressed a deep sense of grief over loss of precious human lives due to torrential rains. She said, 'I am deeply saddened by the death of 04 children by drowning in rainwater in Gujarat.' She also expressed grief over death of 04 women after their vehicle was hit by flash flood in Hassan Abdal. She offered condolences and extended her heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families. LAHORE: 'Human trafficking is a modern form of slavery. The purpose to celebrate this day is to raise public awareness about human trafficking,' said Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif in her message on 'World Day Against Human Trafficking.' She added, 'National commitment against human trafficking implies 'Leave no Child Behind, in the fight against human trafficking'.' She highlighted, 'Punjab Government is determined to end illegal trafficking of children who are my red line, their protection is my top priority. I am determined that every child of Punjab should be protected against human trafficking.' The CM underscored, 'Exploitation of children is not tolerated under any circumstances. Parents should protect their children, who go in search of employment, from trafficking.' She appealed to the people to adopt legal and safe routes for foreign travel. She noted, 'Death of dozens of people in a boat capsize, while going to Europe through illegal means was a great human tragedy.' The Chief Minister said, 'Human traffickers do not hesitate to play with public lives in their lust for wealth. The Punjab government is committed to zero-tolerance policy against human trafficking.'
