Digital transport fare system planned
She was presiding over a meeting related to the transport department and Mass Transit Authority, in which she was informed that the token system in the Orange Line train and Metro Bus would be abolished and a barcode system would be introduced for card-based payment.
In the planned system, the fare can be paid through credit, debit and ATM cards, as well as mobile account applications. Payment through near field communication (NFC) cards will also be enabled in the mass transit system in Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The token system will be abolished soon for implementing the e-payment system in Lahore's Orange Line train to enable fare payment through cards and apps.
It was also decided in the meeting to introduce a single card for the mass transit system across the province.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the T-Cash card for the mass transit system. Travel on every Metro Bus or Orange Line train across the province will be possible through the card.
A separate card will be introduced for students.
The chief minister also gave approval in principle for recruitment to technical posts from grade 5 to 18 in the transport department.
The participants of the meeting agreed to introduce electric rickshaws as an alternative to motorcycle rickshaws.
The chief minister sought suggestions for the electric rickshaw project.
She also approved in principle a proposal to organise the first international transport expo in Punjab.
The chief minister announced the introduction of a comprehensive radio frequency identification (RFID) sticker for all matters related to vehicles.
Punjab Transport Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch gave a detailed briefing on the Yellow Line Lahore-Gujranwala bus rapid transit (BRT) system.
The participants were informed that the supply of electric buses in the districts of Punjab will would begin next month.
The meeting also reviewed the design and colour recommendations of prefabricated bus shelters in Lahore. The installation 50 shelters will be initiated soon.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said in her message on World Day for International Justice that where justice was not served, darkness of oppression engulfed the entire society. "If there is no justice, development and prosperity remain an unfulfilled dream."

Punjab to hire 2,000 agri interns
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched the second phase of an internship programme under which 2,000 agriculture graduates will get a monthly stipend of Rs60,000. Launching the Chief Minister Agriculture Internship Programme Phase-II, she said students pursuing BSc Agriculture and BSc (Hons) Agricultural Engineering are eligible for the scheme. They can submit their applications in the offices of deputy director agriculture (extension) in their districts. Agricultural Helpline 0800-17000 is also active for the internship programme. The chief minister said the quota for agriculture and agricultural engineering graduates in each district had been fixed. The chief minister said,"The agriculture internship programme not only supports farmers but also provides decent employment to the youth." She added,"Kisan Card Programme in Punjab has set new records of success, while Green Tractor and Tube Well Solarisation Programmes for farmers are going on successfully. In a statement, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz paid tribute to PML-N leader Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and their economic team on the decision of S&P to upgrade Pakistan's credit. The CM said in her message on World Drowning Prevention Day that recent drowning of several people in floodwaters was extremely painful. "There is a ban on bathing in canals, lakes and rivers throughout Punjab. A earning, sign system and monitoring are being ensured for effective ban on bathing. Rescue 1122 teams are fully mobilised to save public from drowning." She appealed to parents to prevent children from bathing in flooded drains, canals and rivers. The chief minister urged the citizens to keep in mind alerts of the meteorological department and administration to avoid going to dangerous areas during the ongoing rainy season. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also paid tribute to Major Ziyad Saleem and Sepoy Nazim Hussain on embracing martyrdom in a terrorist attack in Mastung.

Government-run colleges: Punjab CM agrees to establish ‘College Management Council'
LAHORE: 'Upgrade GC University, Lahore College for Women University and University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, as model educational institutions,' Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned while chairing a special meeting of the Higher Education Department. She reviewed proposals for governance reforms and institutional autonomy in public sector universities. She informed, 'many foreign universities including those of UK, Korea and Kazakhstan have expressed interest in setting up campuses in Punjab. University of London, University of Brunel, University of Gloucestershire, University of Leicester and others have offered to set up campuses in Punjab.' The Chief Minister directed the authorities concerned to emphasize on improving teaching quality, innovative research and creative knowledge in the universities of the province. She directed them to prioritise focus on human resource development in these universities. She said, 'digital transformation and global connectivity in universities is also among priorities.' She directed to hold Higher Education Conference in Punjab for the first time, and sought a detailed report on inactive commerce colleges in Punjab. The CM agreed to establish College Management Council for government colleges in Punjab, and directed the relevant authorities to implement 'KPI' system to raise standard of education in the universities. She said, 'The performance of a Vice Chancellor will be evaluated on the basis of 'KPI' criteria.' She also sought a report on underperforming colleges in the province, and directed to establish Education Vigilance Squad, which will conduct surprise checks on attendance, cleanliness, quality of education and other issues in educational institutions. She said, 'Immediate action will be taken on the report of Education Vigilance Squad under the supervision of Minister for Education.' She reviewed a proposal to set green, blue, yellow and grey rankings of the universities based on their quality of education. The Chief Minister received a detailed briefing on CM Punjab Honhar Scholarship and Laptop Schemes. She was briefed by the authorities concerned, 'More than 19,000 students from other provinces, besides Punjab, have applied for these Schemes of Chief Minister Punjab.' Matric exams 2025: CM congratulates position holders
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has congratulated position holder students in the matriculation annual examination 2025, held by all the examination boards in the province. The Chief Minister has applauded Haram Fatima and Haroon Hamid on securing overall first position in Matriculation examination. She also congratulated Moeez Qamar of Faisalabad and Faizan Farid Israr of Sahiwal boards respectively on securing second position. The Chief Minister also congratulated Muhammad Usman of Rawalpindi, Haji Abuzar Tanveer of Nankana, Noorul Huda and Hasnaina Fatima of Multan on winning third position. Maryam Nawaz Sharif especially expressed happiness over positions of female students. She said, 'I am happy that daughters have secured prominent positions in the Matriculation examinations.
