Panchal played 127 first-class matches, including 99 Ranji Trophy Matches for Gujarat. He scored 8,856 runs with 29 hundred and 34 fifties, with an unbeaten 314 being his highest.
The 35-year-old finishes as Gujarat's second-highest run-getter in first-class cricket, just 19 runs short of Parthiv Patel's 7011 runs.
He was selected for the three-match Test series against South Africa in Dec 2021 as a replacement for the then-injured Rohit Sharma and was also part of the squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in Feb 2022. This was the closest the 35-year-old came to playing for India.
The selectors were impressed with his 96-run knock in the first innings against a South Africa 'A' side in Bloemfontein.

Former Gujarat Ranji coach Hitesh Majmudar, who was with the squad when Panchal made his debut, told TOI, 'He was unfortunate to not play for India. He did remarkably well when Gujarat won the Ranji Trophy in 2016-17, and also in the domestic T20 competition in 2013-14. He was the backbone of Gujarat batting.'

Mohammed Shami was ‘not confident' after BCCI reached out to him; clock ticking for India pacer to save Test career

There was sudden buzz around Mohammed Shami's potential return to the Indian Test fold for the series against England after the fast bowler was seen practising with a special ball, red on one side and white on the other, in the Sunrisers Hyderabad nets. But it all subsided when he was not considered for a spot in the side, sparking questions about his future in the Indian team. Mohammed Shami was not picked for the Test series against England(BCCI Twitter) Shami has not played Test cricket since the World Test Championship final against Australia in 2023. He returned to competitive cricket in October last year after being out of action for months due to injury. Although he featured in domestic red-ball matches, he failed to prove his fitness and was omitted from the tour of Australia. According to The Telegraph, a BCCI official revealed that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee recognised Shami's experience as crucial for the England series, especially with Jasprit Bumrah expected to play only three of the five Tests owing to workload management. However, the 35-year-old did not sound confident about his fitness, leaving the selectors sceptical, and was therefore not picked. 'First of all, he wasn't dropped because of form. Fitness issues are the only reason why he couldn't travel to England,' the BCCI official said. 'After missing the last tour of Australia, his presence was much needed for the England series. The selectors had also spoken to him before finalising the squad, but he didn't sound too confident. That much-needed assurance from him was missing.' The official further pointed out that age was not on Shami's side, and the preference would be for a fast bowler 'who still has seven to eight years of cricket left in him rather than someone who'll be turning 35 soon.' Shami faces the ticking clock The report stated that Shami is set to play in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, beginning August 28. This will allow the selectors to reassess his fitness and form ahead of India's home series against the West Indies in October. East Zone will open their campaign against North Zone in the quarter-final at the BCCI Centre of Excellence ground in Bengaluru. 'In all probability, Shami will be playing the first game. He's busy with his preparation at his academy back home (in Amroha). He's getting ready,' a source close to the pacer said. A BCCI insider added: 'If Shami produces an impact-making performance against North Zone, the selectors will certainly take notice because his quality cannot be ruled out. But the question is whether he'll continue playing if East Zone advance beyond the quarter-finals. Will his body permit, given his dodgy knee and hamstring? In the Ranji Trophy, he used to bowl three-four overs in a spell and then go off the ground. So whether his body can take the rigours of a multi-day game remains a tricky question.' An impressive Duleep Trophy campaign could hand Shami a shot at redemption in the West Indies series. However, the selectors are keeping a close eye on younger fast-bowling options, making this potentially a decisive moment in the veteran's Test career.

'He went down the wrong path': Rohit Sharma's childhood coach gives explosive statement on Prithvi Shaw

Rohit Sharma's childhood coach Dinesh Lad has made a big statement about Prithvi Shaw, saying that he spoiled his own cricket career by taking the wrong path. Shaw has not played for India since 2021 and was forced to change his domestic team after being dropped midway through the previous Ranji Trophy season. read more Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma's childhood coach Dinesh Lad has given a strong opinion about Prithvi Shaw, saying the young cricketer spoiled his own career by taking the wrong path. Prithvi Shaw was once one of the most exciting names in Indian cricket before he faded away like hundreds of other players who come into the system every year. Dinesh Lad said he saw Shaw grow up from the age of 10 and always knew he was a special player. Lad said this during a podcast with Gaurav Mangalani. He also lauded upcoming talents like Vaubhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre, both of whom became household names during IPL 2025. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'I have seen Prithvi since his childhood, from the time he was 10 years old. He was a highly talented player. But as I have said, everyone's journey is individual, and I don't know what exactly happened with him. Still, Prithvi Shaw was a very talented cricketer. Unfortunately, he went down the wrong path and ended up spoiling his cricket," Lad said. 'Even now, I feel we need a batter like him, the way he used to bat. Although right now we have some truly outstanding batters. For example, the way Vaibhav Suryavanshi is batting, and the way Ayush Mhatre is batting. These are future cricketers in the making. They are getting ready in line. Indian cricket is almost at the top,' he added. Prithvi Shaw's downfall Prithvi scored a century on his Test debut at just age 18 in the 2018-19 season against West Indies, months after he captained India to win the Under-19 World Cup. Interestingly, Shubman Gill was the vice-captain of the same team, and he is now the Test captain of India. Prithvi was picked for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia the same season but got ruled out after getting injured in one of the practice games in Sydney before the start of the first Test. He made a comeback later but couldn't perform well. Things changed after that and he lost his place in the team and has not played for India since 2021. The last few years have been tough for Shaw. He left Mumbai ahead of the new domestic season after being dropped midway in the previous Ranji Trophy due to poor form and some disciplinary problems. He played a few matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy but was not selected for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In the 2025 IPL mega auction, he went unsold after Delhi Capitals released him.
