17 mandals in Prakasam face drought-like conditions
Ongole: Prakasam district in-charge minister and state revenue and endowments minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy participated in the District Development Review Committee meeting held at the Collectorate here on Monday,
Speaking at the meeting , he said that the primary focus of the government is ensuring that welfare benefits reach every eligible citizen, particularly those in the most vulnerable sections of society.
The DDRC meeting, which brought together top government officials, local legislators, and district administrators, revealed that 17 mandals in the district are currently experiencing drought-like conditions. The public representatives from various places urged the government to address the increasing demand for drinking water immediately. Key discussions in the meeting focused on the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, with Minister Anam Ramanaraya Reddy highlighting that the central government has extended the programme until 2028.
The administration announced it is fast-tracking water management strategies to prevent potential water crises during the summer months.
In other issues, the minister highlighted the government's commitment to employment generation, particularly through the Employment Guarantee Scheme.
He said that the government is committed to providing jobs to unemployed individuals in poor communities and instructed officials to expedite ongoing work projects. The potential involvement of the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) was explored as a means to generate new revenue streams for urban local bodies by utilising vacant lands. Regarding agriculture, the minister promised support to local farmers.
Specific discussions were planned regarding challenges faced by tobacco farmers in the region, underscoring the government's approach to addressing sector-specific agricultural concerns.
Social Welfare Minister Dr Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneyulu, District Collector A Thameem Ansariya, Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, ZP Chairperson Buchepalli Venkayamma, MLC Thumati Madhava Rao, MLAs, chairmen of various corporations, and other public representatives, officials participated in the meeting.

Permissions granted for 53 applications through single desk portal
Nandyal: District Collector G Raja Kumari on Friday directed officials to promptly grant approvals for applications submitted through the Single Desk Portal, in order to promote aspiring industrialists in the district. Presiding over the District Industrial and Export Promotion Committee (DIEPC) meeting held at the Collectorate's video conference hall, the Collector emphasized the importance of facilitating the establishment of industries in the district. The meeting was attended by District Industries Centre (DIC) General Manager Javahar Babu, Lead District Manager Ravinder Kumar, SC/ST Chamber of Commerce President Rajamahendranath, and other concerned department officials. During the meeting, the Collector stated that 65 industrial proposals were received over the last quarter under the Single Desk system. Out of these, approvals have already been granted for 53 units by the respective departments. She instructed the officials from the Environment and Factories Departments to resolve the remaining 12 applications within the stipulated timeframe. Highlighting the government's commitment to supporting entrepreneurs, the Collector announced that under various industrial incentive schemes such as investment subsidy, interest subsidy, electricity concessions, and sales tax benefits, a total of Rs.31.85 lakhs has been sanctioned to 16 production and service-based units in the district. She further called for enhanced awareness among youth in both urban and rural areas regarding industrial investments and the establishment of new units, underscoring the crucial role of grassroots-level entrepreneurship in economic development. Among those present at the meeting were Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories Narayana Reddy, Pollution Control Board Executive Engineer Kishore Reddy, Transport Department Officer Aishwarya Reddy, and representatives from various departments and industrial associations.

Witness' credibility: PMLAcourt issues notice to ED
Jaipur: A PMLA court in Jaipur issued a notice to ED on Thursday after the defence counsel challenged the credibility of the witness' statement against former Congress minister Mahesh Joshi, currently in jail in connection with Jal Jeevan Mission scam, for want of video proof of the deposition. Senior counsel Vivek Bajwa, representing Joshi, invoked a Supreme Court ruling that mandates videography of the witness' statement in PMLA cases. "ED claims that this (PHED) engineer is the main witness, based on which Joshi was arrested. Then why was it not videographed? If this engineer claims that he took a bribe and passed it on to others, then why was he not made an accused in this case?" Bajwa asked. Bajwa also questioned ED's delayed action. "He (Joshi) was served the notice in March 2024. Then ED kept quiet for one year. Suddenly, on March 24, 2025, he was called for interrogation and later arrested. Why did ED keep quiet for one year? These things indicate that he has been falsely implicated in this case," Bajwa added. When the ED investigating officer claimed that videography could not be done because most of the rooms were occupied, the court asked ED to explain how many rooms are available at the zonal office in Jaipur, the crime spot.

Jal Shakti team visits Vizianagaram for water project review
Vizianagaram: A Central team from the Jal Shakti Abhiyan visited Vizianagaram district on Wednesday to assess local water resources and understand ground-level conditions. The team paid a courtesy visit to District Collector Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and briefed him on their schedule and objectives. The team informed the Collector that they would be visiting the Thotapalli and Tarakarama Teertha Sagar (TTS) projects. They also planned to interact with beneficiaries of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Kota Gandredu village. During the interaction, Collector Dr. B.R. Ambedkar emphasized that Vizianagaram is a backward district and urged the team to recommend increased central funding for pending water infrastructure projects. Explaining the status of the Tarakarama Teertha Sagar project, the Collector said that although proposals worth ₹800 crore had been submitted, only ₹100 crore had been sanctioned so far. He noted that Relief and Rehabilitation (R&R) payments were still pending and stressed that the release of the remaining funds was essential to meet the district's developmental goals. He explained the importance of supplying 5 MLD (Million Litres per Day) of water to the Bhogapuram International Airport, providing drinking water to Vizianagaram Municipality, and ensuring irrigation for 25,000 acres of farmland in the Nellimarla, Gurla, Pusapatirega, and Denkada mandals. The Collector also highlighted the need for additional funding under the Jal Jeevan Mission. In response, the visiting officials assured him that the district should submit detailed project estimates and proposals, which would then be forwarded to the Central Government for further recommendation and approval. Taruna Doliya, Director, Ministry of Commerce; Nikhil Jeff, Deputy Director, Central Water Commission; Dr. D. Anantha Rao, Scientist, Central Ground Water Board; and others met the Collector.
