Eddie Murphy isn't convinced 'Norbit' is his worst movie: 'Come on now, s--- ain't that bad'
Think Norbit is Eddie Murphy's worst movie? Uh, the actor would like to remind you about the existence of The Adventures of Pluto Nash and Holy Man.
Murphy pushed back at the assertion that his critically panned 2007 comedy Norbit is one of his worst films, in a new interview with Complex's Speedy Morman. In fact, the comedian insisted the flick still makes him laugh to this day.
'I love Norbit," Murphy said of the comedy he co-wrote with his brother, Charlie Murphy. "Norbit came out right after I got that Oscar nomination. There were articles like, 'How can he get an Oscar, he did this?' They're two different movies." (Murphy received his first Academy Award nomination for his supporting role in 2007's Dreamgirls.)
"I wrote Norbit with my brother, Charlie, and we think Norbit is funny," Murphy continued. "It came out and they gave me a Razzie Awards for worst actress, worst actor, and worst actor of the decade. And I was like, 'Come on now, s--- ain't that bad.' They was just hatin' on me."
"To this day, I like Norbit," Murphy said. "There's stuff in Norbit that makes me laugh."
When asked to name his worst films, Murphy, without hesitation, cited 1998's Holy Man and 2002's Pluto Nash.
Murphy starred as the eponymous character in Norbit, about a man scheming to get out of his marriage to a shrewish woman (a role he also played, among several more) in order to rekindle a romance with his childhood sweetheart played by Thandiwe Newton.
Norbit picked up nine nominations at the 2008 Razzie Awards, a parody award show honoring the worst in cinema, including Worst Picture. Murphy "won" the award for Worst Actor of the Decade, among a few other "accolades." He took a break from acting following the awards show, revealing in a podcast that the decision stemmed from the realization that he had been "making s---ty movies."Murphy returned with such titles as Mr. Church, the acclaimed Dolemite Is My Name, the Coming to America sequel, and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. His latest project is the comedy heist The Pickup (streaming now on Prime Video), in which he stars opposite Pete Davidson as two truck drivers ambushed by ruthless criminals.
"There's this generation gap between the characters," Murphy told Entertainment Weekly of making the flick with his fellow Saturday Night Live alum. "What makes it pop when we get together and what makes us have chemistry is that we're totally opposites."

AOL Is Ending Dial-Up Internet Service
If you are old enough to remember the signature pinging, boinging, and hissing sounds that came with connecting to the Internet in the early days, hold onto those memories — AOL just announced that its dial-up is about to hang up forever. The company released a statement on Friday, which read: "AOL routinely evaluates its products and services and has decided to discontinue Dial-up Internet." The service and all associated software will stop working on September 30, 2025, the company added. Related: Billionaire Investor Frank McCourt Jr. Wants to Transform the Entire Internet. Here's How. Wait, AOL dial-up service has been available all this time? That's a valid question, and the answer is shockingly yes. The New York Times, citing U.S. Census Bureau data, reports that in 2023, 163,000 United States households relied on dial-up service to access the internet. That represents just over 1 percent of all internet subscribers in the country. The last time AOL released dial-up user numbers was in 2015, when the company reported two million users that represented $40 million a month in revenue. The company did not offer current user numbers with its closing announcement. AOL's dial-up service unlocked internet access for millions of users in the 1990s, and its signature "You've Got Mail" sign-on announcement was so iconic that it spurred a rom-com of the same name starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan as a couple who fall in love over instant messaging. Dial-up internet speeds average about 56 kilobytes a second, reports The Times. Typical broadband connections are several thousand times faster. Think about that the next time you're frustrated that a web page took more than half a second to load. End of an Era… Dial Up Internet will be discontinued by AOL on September 30, 2025 — ? Emma Thompson says Donald Trump once asked her out on a pivotal day
People in entertainment Donald TrumpFacebookTweetLink Follow Emma Thompson has reshared a story about a phone call she received years ago from President Donald Trump. While attending the Locarno film festival in Switzerland to receive the Leopard Club award, Thompson reportedly talked about the day around 1997, when she says a then-private citizen Trump asked her out on a date. Thompson said she was filming the movie 'Primary Colors' at the time, a film based on the novel by Joe Klein which fictionalized the rise of President Bill Clinton. The phone in her on-set trailer rang, she recalled, and 'it was Donald Trump.' 'I thought it was a joke and asked: 'How can I help you?' Maybe he needed directions from someone,' Thompson told the crowd. 'Then he said: 'I'd love you to come and stay at one of my beautiful places. Maybe we could have dinner,'' Thompson continued. 'I said: 'Well, that's very sweet. Thank you so much. I'll get back to you.'' The 'Love Actually' star said she later realized what day it was. 'I realized my divorce decree had come through that day,' she said. 'I bet he's got people looking for a nice divorcee to take out on his arm.' Thompson had gone through a long divorce from her first husband, actor Kenneth Branagh. The story is one Thompson had shared before. During an appearance on 'The Graham Norton Show' in 2017, she talked to the host about the invite she said she received from Trump years prior. 'I could have changed the course of history,' Thompson joked.

Paramount acquires UFC rights in 7-year deal with TKO Group
Paramount will become the new home to all Ultimate Fighting Championship events in the U.S. under a seven-year agreement with TKO Group announced on Monday. Under the deal, Paramount will exclusively distribute the UFC's full slate of its 13 marquee numbered events and 30 "Fight Nights" on its streaming platform Paramount+ — with select numbered events also set to simulcast on CBS — starting in 2026. It's a shift away from the UFC's existing pay-per-view model, which Paramount and TKO say will allow the mixed martial arts programming reach more consumers nationwide. "Paramount's advantage lies in the expansive reach of our linear and streaming platforms," David Ellison, chairman and CEO of Paramount, said in a statement. "Live sports continue to be a cornerstone of our broader strategy — driving engagement, subscriber growth, and long-term loyalty, and the addition of UFC's year-round must-watch events to our platforms is a major win." Mark Shapiro, president and COO of TKO, added that the deal will mean "deeper engagement for UFC's passionate fan base" and that its athletes "will love this new stage." The seven-year deal has an average annual value of $1.1 billion, the companies said Monday. Paramount, now owned by Skydance, also said it intends to explore UFC rights outside the U.S. "as they become available in the future." Shares of TKO — which, in addition to the UFC, also houses the WWE — rose 1.4% in premarket trading Monday. CBS News and Paramount+ are owned by Paramount Global.
